To me it just seems more realistic and the Grail building would love awesome! Mother of darkness, you know just in the middle of it all... Would have awesome.
About the realisme, you know getting hydras down from a freaking cave ceiling!

Maybe they thought it would look too similar to the Necropolis. And actually, if you take off the huge statues and the purple fog, you will get something very similar to Necropolis necropolis. And the Dungeon usually appears in the underground, so there's no need to have a deeper hole in the ground, like we have in towns like Necropolis, Inferno and Fortress.

And just imagine what would happen with one mistep in the Fortress town. You'd fall in the lava.

It so much nice art in this thread. I lost all the Heroes art I'd collected through the years at a major disk crash, so it's nice to hook up again 
I still miss those ToE drawings made from Nival - that are posted as photos from TV screens, but that has never showed up elsewhere.
When it comes to the Icons from the older versions of Heroes V (or from the Beta), could someone post the ones from the old Treants and the green spectre, and those other who differ from the newer versions).
It's just nice to have them in my collection.

The High Druid was never published. But it will be availible in the artbook in the game's Complete Edition.
