OK, enough of the wallpapers already, here something really nice:
Most of the lineup for Haven faction, as designed for 3DO:
The lineup for a Fairy Town:
Two models for the Necropolis castle, the first one was published before, but I uploaded it to show you how the castle was supposed to establish during game play:
The Haven castle:
A Lumber Mill and an Ore Rafinery:
A keep and a closer look at the Dark Tower (one of the buildings for Necropolis):
Images moved, please look for Dexter's post on page 26.

omg the old HoMM5 shots looks awesome! /want to play
I guess they would follow H4 though (as its 6 creatures).
My guess for line-ups:
Haven
Archer Priest Champion
Swordsman Pikeman Crusader
Sylvan
Werewolf Wood Elf Phoenix
Faire Sphinx Green Dragon

It's not a gnoll. It's more of a werewolf. But note that the names weren't determined at that time.
As for the upgrades, I believe there were none. At least I haven't seen any in existance. And each castle had at least seven different creatures. Not all of the creatures for the Fairy Town and Haven are posted in the images.
But if you look at the Lumber Mill and the Ore Rafinery you'll notice that the style was very similar to Heroes IV, so possibly the idea of choosing a certain path for the creatures was present.

The Haven creatures do indeed look pretty Heroes 4 like, but I have to say (again) that the Fairy ones are absolutely stunning. As for the Lumber Mill and Ore Mine, one thing that springs to mind is the details and realisms - it's very, very pretty, but I must admit that I would be afraid that it would fall into the same pitfall that Heroes 4 ended in: That each building by itself looked good, but when put into a full picture, it ended up looking like a mess and lacking the atmosphere.

The Creatures look beautiful, esspecially the Haven creature in the top right corner (spearman?) I would so have gotten this game. Everything looks so nice!!
Also, of the many GIANT pictures that were posted, I think the best is the one of the Shamans.

Here you have Zamfir's picture in not ridicolous size. Perhaps a Mod could put my links into Zamfirs post? Or Zamfir could you just delete them?
You actually see a lot more of them in this size .

Also the dragons don't have wings and look at the elf legs

I agree that many of the structures look better than the ones in Ubi's Heroes. I also notice the HoMM IV graphics type.

I already said that it's not a Gnoll. How many times do you need to read it. It's not really a Werewolf either. Look at it for a moment, it's half a lion half a man. The name wasn't decided at the time, but it was not supposed to be a Gnoll.
The lion shaped creature with the wings was a Sphinx.
And the Dragon is quite different indeed. Maybe later today I'll post the Black Dragon and a few others.
One more thing: the creatures are rendered artwork (not conceptual artwork). If you look at the Phoenix and at the Phoenix image which got published earlier than you'll see the difference between the models and the rendered artwork. As for the duildings: they're actual in-game 3D models.
