Harry Potter 7: Deathly Hallows
Disclaimer: Thread may (will) contain spoilers about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. You have been warned.
ZOMG! Oh my god, I am so thrilled with this book! I thought it would wind up being kindof sappy, but instead it got even better, easily the best in terms of narration, level of maturity, and chapter artwork. My two favorite moments:
Ron and Hermione kissing at last, that which so many fanfiction works have glorified and prayed for has at last happened! YES!
The gang escaping on a Dragon. I never expected that, and it has been one of my hopes ever since JK Rowling made dragons have a little good in them. I was so thrilled by that part, I could see it all in my head, and it was so fun to watch. That moment in the movie will be SO epic.

Daystar... dude... you brought this on yourself. Get a life - and when a person that spent half his lifetime playing Heroes tells you that, then it means something
Seriously, HP started as a cute book for kids, and now, well, it's a pitiful overcommercial latin american soap (just with uglier chicks). I understand people who are obsessed with, say, Wheel of Time series. That's pure, serious, great non-commercial epic fantasy. But Harry Potter is written for the masses with an average IQ of 7.5 to simply make money. Can't believe people still read that crap.
Now I really should say "No offence", lest HP fans stone me... So, uhm...
Wait, I can do it...
Hnnnnnggggmmmmmmnnnn...
Nnnnno... offffffennnnce.
Dude! I did it! I totally did it!
...but I have a feeling you'll still stone me...

I would write a long post in defense of HP, but I don't really care about what you say about it. It's awesome and nothing will change my opinion on it.

This qualifies as a completely ignorant response, dude. Saying it was written for people with an IQ of 7.5 is a direct insult to the millions of fans all around the world. What was the last HP book you read? Also, stoning is far too good for you, my friend.

>.> Direct insults against members, yes. But against a group of people is ok, as long as it isn't racist or cursing. I mean, just take a look at what I constantly do to republicans
Let me put it this way; I for example am insulted when someone calls Harry Potter epic fantasy. When such trash is put on the same level (and higher) than LotR or WoT or any good, serious book, it's just demeaning. It's like calling republicans human beings. That makes me ashamed of being a human.
Look, I didn't mean to insult you personally for this. I just like practicing my sarcasm, and what's better for that than HP? I have certain groups of people which I crucify verbally on a daily basis and that's the way it is. I even have a reason sometimes.
So chill out, dude. Geez, people can't take anything on their account these days...

Baklava, when you start lauding the Wheel of Time books as great literature, particularly comparing against LotR, I think you just about lose all credibility when it comes to evaluating literature.
The Harry Potter phenomenon is admittedly quite perplexing - and amusing at times - to me, BUT if other people like it and want to say how great it is, so what? Frankly, it is nice to see so many people - particularly children - excited about reading, so whatever the literary merits of the HP series, the mere fact that it gets people to turn off their video games and TV sets for ten minutes is a big plus in my mind.

I didn't compare it to LotR, I'm just saying both of those books are better than HP.
And what's wrong with Wheel of Time? Especially the later ones, it's noncommercial and kewl I mean, the man is dying of an incurable illness, it's not like cash matters to him anymore. Ok, some ideas are from LotR and stuff, but it's still a good read.

Nothing, I just don't realise why I can't say how much it sucks then
But I agree on the final part of your post.

Okaaaaay...Someone's not too fond of Rowling...Yeah, HP fans and nazis are of course basically the same thing...
Personally, I really liked the first 4 books a lot. The 5th and 6the book kinda lost the feeling, but I think the last one is back on track a bit. (I'm reading it right now)
And if we got to discuss fantasy literature in here, Go Robin Hobb!

Ok lets try that again Ugh!!
HP is entertainment aimed at kids and as such has appeal for the mass population. You just cant help getting excited when the children around you are almost peeing their pants to get into a book. The HP series should be applauded for getting so many kids reading as in this electronic gadget and computer game age they really have to set aside time for reading.
Ok well now Im showing my age and hope that you wont be too tough on this poor old woman who hit the enter button and sent that last message just a little prematurely....LOL!

Does it matter whether it is here or there as long as its something that we are interested in.... I really like "the other side of the monitor" idea.... although when I first saw it I thought more about how interesting it is thinking about people all over the place sitting on the other side of the monitor . I remember when playing HOMM3 for days without much of a break, how you would talk about where you were and what you were up to so that you could have time to take a shower or get food or I even had one guy who always had to take the dog for a walk when we were playing. I would be here roasting in the Aussie summer and they would be sitting there huddled over a heater and still freezing their butts off hehe!!
They were the good old days when life had more fun in it . Ugh reminiscing is for the old and maudlin so enough of that!!
Hey I wouldnt say that the Order of the Phoenix rocked but it was good entertainment...
