Gah my mind is slipping.  Anyway my point wsa that by raising your artificer skill you aren't just getting the benefit or lack thereof of mini artifacts, you are also getting access to motw and magic mirror etc.

I try to stay with Basic Artificer at the beginning, as MotW should be enough early and you won't make lvl2 artifacts so soon anyway. Sometimes it can't be avoided though, or you go the risky way and max all your skills to get 2 skill options at the next level up.

Yes, but don't most other factions benefit from their complementary racial skills as well as their main racial skill early?

For example, necromancy is using necromancy from day 1. Now as he levels up he gets Mark of Necromancer, Eternal Servitude, and Banshee Howl. All of these are beneficial to him while as same time he is using necromancy from the beginning.

Another example. Inferno uses gating from day 1. It has complimentary racial skills of Mark of the Damned, Hellfire, and Consume Corpse. These all benefit the Demonlord while he is also benifiting from his main racial ability from the start of the game.

Even the knight gets some benefit out of his racial from day one in that counterstrike increases the retaliation damage his troops do. His main special requires gold to upgrade his troops, and in that respect he is a little limited early like the wizard in using his main racial special. His complimentary racial abilities are benediction, retaliation strike, and expert trainer. So he also gets additional racial benefits as he levels.

Chuckles gave examples where he was using them in the first 2 weeks.  You said it wasn't significant.  What would be significant?  Probably something overpowered.


Just to clear things up on this, I wasn't saying that using Artificer in the first 2 weeks was needed.  Not at all.  I'm saying that you CAN use it in the first 2 weeks.  It's not costing you anything.  If you've designed your build plan based upon the scouted out mines/resources then you can easily tell what resources you'll need and when you'll need them.  It just takes planning.  And once you find that out, you'll know what resources will just be sitting there doing nothing.  So my point was...why just let them sit there?  You've already invested level-ups in the skill most likely...so use it.  In many cases, the bonus won't be significant.  However, there are some that will make dramatic improvements in your development.  I'm not suggesting that you rush a build plan just to use artificer.  That's silly.  But so is ignoring your racial skill until month 3.

Gating has been badly nerfed in 1.5 and 3.0.  The AI ignores the gates so your vulnerable weak real troops are getting hit.

I just tried to make use of artificier in the first 3 weeks...I had the -1 def/ attack on my golems and gremlins, +1 luck on mages and gargoyles.
Well it is possible to make use of the mini-artifacts in the early game but because they depend on the heroes knowlege they are almost unnoticible in the early game.

Its a great skill. Wizards are excellent in early game coz of their magic abilities and good low lvl creatures. In the long run however they are vulnerable because of lack of might stats. this is where mini artifacts kick in. Having good minis givs you a lot of good bonusses that are really needed in late game.

Id say that it suits very well and fills academy weaknesses. Not all factions have so balanced racials. Sylvan for example has strict late game racial too but late game is their specialty anyway so it doesnt help them in fast games, when they are vulnerable. Warlocks racial gives overall bonus but its not strong enough to say that it helps in late game( when they really need it).

I feel artificer is a strong ability, but for the relatively low skill level i have it can only come late into play

artificer is a good skill,but requires resources_the thing Wizards shouldn't waste until they learn lv5 magic

Inferno gating hasn't been really nerfed, it has just been changed, learn to adapt I've been playing 1.5 for a while now and haven't found it too difficult to creep with inferno for one.

It's like this argument that cerberi are now obsolated by firehounds. It's not true, you can use cerberi vs AI in creeping for example or in skirmishes, they work better there than fire hounds.

I mostly use them for moral and luck, and never for hp, in end game battles a few hp won't help.

HP does matter on low tier stacks. Gremlins have 6 health, a mini-arti can easily add 3 health to that. That means 33% less losses every time they get hit.
Mages and Djinns are also excellent targets for health since it ups their endurance somewhat, and they are usually targeted first.

Magic Protection is also excellent for the same reasons if you are facing warlocks, but health is more universal.

if 50 black dragons hit your gremlins, I doubt that 500 more hp per stack matters
I only said health is useless in end game battles, I didn't say it's useless in general
magic protection is ok

artificer is definatly worthwhile...everyone seem to say if u can afford them, get them....its more like ur stupid if u dont spare some resource for them. academy unit(s) as a whole is so much better with them( and yeah unless u have lots stock, dont try making lvl 3 mini's )
example: logistics-->pathfinding-->march of golems-->+2 speed mini.........= those stupid blood maidens will only think they are just out of ur range lol

magic resistance obviously good  considering it doesnt cap till what like 85% or something? but usually around 50-60 more likely u have

innitiative mini- very useful and "key" mini to have
academy is much more devastating with inniative bonuses, while already starting with average innitiative units( morale mini also plays into this )
titan for example...even with boosting innitiative on titan from 10-11 its a big deal- titans need there innitiative or morale boosted cause when there shootin them bolts up your @ss left & right more often, u aint gonna be hanging around real long, especially if hero is mark of wizard/resurrecting them lol

theres obviously so many different ways to use them and situations but i just wanted give couple example and make the point, academy fans should be using their racial, and academy owns on that note lol ( all time fav )

artifacter is one of best skills of game,bad thing is,those artifacts cost too much but luckily,you have about 70% to get pendant of mastery

It's possible to do but it's a question of speed.  Could you creep faster before or now?  It's not like Inferno was owning the map too fast before.

But yes, I shall be forced to adapt.

It's just, we have regular complaints, Dungeon lovers complain about the shackles being unfair.  Necro complains that it is weak late game (see Vokial's thread) and that the creatures suck.  Academy complains that the resource costs are high.

So now I'm complaining that Inferno has the slowest creeping in the game and that this puts them at a disadvantage against every single faction.

I wish TOH had a counter that showed your record with each faction.
