Global News

TH

In this thread, there will be posted global news, so we will be able to know what's going on, also outside HC. I'll try to post here every day or two, to keep the news updated, but everyone can update us with news.

-You can write about any subject, but think well if it will interest other people in the forum. Try to write about global things, that refer not only to people from one state.

-You can use any news site or channel (CNN, Fox News, BBC News, etc). Don't forget to mention your sources, ofcourse.

-Keep the updates short. 2-5 lines is enough.

-Try to avoid showing your opinion on the update. If you want to tell your opinion, put it on other paragraph.

You can also reply to news posted, even if it's a bit old.
Do not spam! Any funny news you have, can be posted here.

Ahmadi Nejad says on a speech: A global survey should be done, that will decide where Israel should be relocated; Europe, Alaska or Canada. He says that Israel oppresses the Palastinians, with the United States's assistance.
Meanwhile, tens of thousand people in Iran participated in a huge demonstration against Israel and the United States.

Everyone frowns on Indonesia and the deforestation there (myself included) but they aren't to blame. They're a developing country that needs to keep it's economy going. MEDC's in the western world forget that they cut down their trees just as much (if not more) than Indonesia. They just did it centuries ago when no one cared.
I mean, drive through France, parts of the US etc, and how much forest do you see? Alot of farms...
It's a part of any country's modern development, and telling them off about it is kinda hypocritical, unless governments give them grants to compensate.
Kinda like that deal where you buy some rainforest so it doesn't get cut down, but I don't really get that whole idea. I mean, what's to stop them from taking the money and cutting it down anyway

Ofcourse you can discuss about the news.

I disagree with that. There are modern states that managed to keep the forests and nature in them and they are advanced. Not a lot, but there are few. New-Zealand is an excellent example. A modern state with a lot of forests. I'm sure that other people would be able to give you more examples.
It's all about what's more imporant for the state and the people with influence and power; the environment or the money.

More clean and fresh air, beauty, more animals won't die because their forests and jungels disappear, more turists come to see the tropical areas, feels nice, and more...

Before they used to use this crap wood fibre to make paper, it used to be cotten (that is why all the old books survive for so long, because none of the pages go yellow like this paper made out of wood does).

I guess people cut down Trees because it is the cheaper method, but I guess some people do not realise that we need Trees for clean air, and I think they are also forgetting about the Animals that live and depend on the Trees.

Trees can also be good for tourists as well.

I agree with Genielord here with his second statement

A similar planet to Earth was found by astronomics. The Planet is in distance of 424 light years from us, and it is 10 million years old. It's on the age of rocks' creation. It rounds a star which is a bit hotter than the sun, but the temperture can hold liquid water. The astronomics say that a new solar system, probably good for the humans' lives, is about to be built there.

I'll say this now:

I'm against logging.
I support the move against global warming.
I am very concerned about the environment.

Had to clear that up because there was a misunderstanding.
I know exactly why it is bad to cut down trees.

But there is this thing you can do wher eyou give money to a charity and it cordons off a section of the Amazon or a rainforest so that it will not be cut down, so you feel like you're doing your bit stopping 3 trees getting cut down or whatever.
What I'm saying is that if the government wants to cut down those trees, how would that person ever know if they just cut it down anyway..

It's all about what's more imporant for the state and the people with influence and power; the environment or the money.

I've been to New Zealand. A country can have alot of forest but still have done alot of deforestation. It's not just thought about because it is taken for granted, because it is necessary. Cities, roads, farms.
Maybe New Zealand is better than alot of countries, but it still does it.

And I didn't mean literally 'every country in existance'

And countries like Sweden who may be planting alot of trees now, I don't doubt that... but Sweden is a very old country. Go back to when it was first developing and ask them how much they care about Global Warming

All countries, with the exception of countries that are mostly desert or grassland or readily clear land, need to log at some stage in their development. Countries like Brazil and Indonesia are no exception. I'm not saying this is a good thing, it's just a fact, that these countries are just unlucky that they're developing their economic growth in an environmentally awakened time.

And not to mention that forest land takes up a great amount of these countries space.
But again I do support that Indonesia is taking a sustainable approach, as is Brazil in some areas but there is still alot of illegal, unsustainable logging that goes on there and is very wasteful and polluting.

But then that just comes down to all the families who want mahogany floorboards

(Get bamboo floorboards people, it's cheaper, stronger, feels the same, is sustainable due to the rapid growth of a crop that can take only 5 years rather than hundreds like tropical rainforests, and bamboo is the greatest plant at carbon fixation in the world

Unfortunately if it's anything like our planet it'll take at least a few billion years before it stops being a swirling maelstrom of fire..

So no help there if we need a quick exit when climate change takes over big time.
