Waited a week or two more before attacking again, and this time went smoothly.

Well, that mentor close by helped as well. First replaced shout skill I had with anti-dark magic for academy fight, then that with anti-light for Alaric. Academy hero did manage to puppet master my centaurs (who in previous battle killed all of my 100+ cyclops! ), but this time I finished the battle before centaurs could act again.

And Alaric was just pushover.

All in all, fine campaign but with some tedious maps (2nd and 5th). Orcs are a great race, and I just flat out love rage ability.

I finished the quest for the golems, i got around 2k of them to join Pretty much everything they attacked turned to dust. Also I used the teacher of memory to get rid of leadership and got shatter dark with all its perks. Should have taken shatter light too, damn that divine vengeance!

And yeah Kujin appears after Alaric's defeat. Gotta love Alaric's half crazed talk

About those golems...don't tell me I could've had all those new stacks that appeared to join as well? I brought golems to that one lonely stack, and then new ones appeared. Didn't try to do anything with them, as Gotai was away, and though new stacks wouldn't join...oh, well, didn't need them...but still.

I also finish quest for the golems, take two stacks or combat mage, skeleton warrior and storm lord to protect my troops, with all globins and some cyclops, then Gotai use hoder 's anger--thousands damage per turn(with the shout ),so cool even Warlock cann't match.
So don't afraid divine vengeance, it could not affect hero and golems, haha.
There is no need to learn shatter magic, might over magic enough.

There's a building in orc town that sells necklace with which you can cast adventure map spells.

Teal is a pushover if you make him attack you in town. Which, he, most likely will. Well, having some nice ranged power (centaurs and war machines - ballista) helps too.

Destroy catapult (one round of ballista, and I took 600+ hp of it, finished with centaurs), shoot his centaurs and then wyverns. He'll retreat soon enough.

Problem is surviving brown hero that comes sometimes in third week, and then getting brown garrison before teal hero arrives.

Lolz! Anyone had this problem?: On the 4th orc map, with Kujin, you need things that boost your knowledge, to get past on the seer's hut, or what the hell. I cleared that area, killed, collected everything, than the seer told, that I had to be wiser to pass... ok than, I cheated... tried with 999 knowlegde and spellpower (just to be sure), and he didnt let me go through on that goddamn portal! Is this a bug, or what? I've killed so much succubi, that my orcs won't be hungry for the next 20 years or so.

This might not be it, but try it...

Seems you *have* to visit each knowledge crystal in each of those areas to be succesfully teleported into next. Maybe you missed the crystal in that one?

he can't. That battle made me realize how vulnerable Stronghold can be to magic... your best bet is to trade skills at the memory mentor to get Shatter Dark (and Might over Magic). It won't protect you from PM and Frenzy, but at least it will cut down the duration and effects.

OK, this is embarrassing me, since no one else seems to have this problem, but... the first scenario sucks!  You don't have time to level up, let alone visit any of the upgrade structures.  The whole thing is over in barely 2 weeks.  And what's with that bribing quest?  When am I supposed to gather so much gold?

That said, I haven't even managed to win this on Hard.  My rival starts with an enormous army and just rolls over everything in sight.  I get slaughtered the first time I encounter powerful shooters (which is very soon).  What am I doing wrong?

I just fought walkers (think there were couple of them vindicators stacks). And really try to gather gold for bribe. Those goblins will give you quite a few heads (and enemy will lose same amount).

Here's a bit detailed advice, as I just finished replaying the map.

Head north, blue will go west, when you reach redwood observatory, go counterclockwise until you reach goblins. And all I fought were vindicators and brutes, skipped archers and wolves for now. Also, collect gold from chests too, until you have 5000g (that's the bribe, right? always miss these things :-)). Oh yes, also destroy peasant huts, that gives you heads too. Anyway, when I reached goblins, with enough money, and after bribing, I had 900 heads...fought nearby archers and got enough.

Now, you can return home with that, or, if you're feeling lucky get that witch hut guarded by wolves...I hate wolves btw, so annoying to fight them. And then even try to get those champions that "divide" area between you and blue. There are couple of nice things to visit (defense, attack, knowledge, and spell power - I skipped spell power as was guarded by archers - maybe it's doable). Also, get chests, and now take experience. Maybe that arena far on the east could be done too? I haven't in both of my plays (on heroic), and frankly, Gotai will be just fine in later missions.

Quite helpful is to take logistics as soon as possible, so have that in mind.

And here are some tips about combat. You have three "main" stack, goblins, centaurs, and warriors. Have also fodder, 4 stacks with one goblin each, and in fights use them to lure vindicators (and others) away, until your warriors are ready, or to take retaliation.

Will try it again, and will upload replay with example a bit later.

EDIT:

Here it is

This one is with biggest group of vindicators in the level (150 of them).
