OK, I just launched normal game executable (without NCF) and it worked fine... quite.
Generator with Ubermash template does not create 3 out of 7 castles there should be and doesn't seem to separate zones from each other at all... I can't find out why is that, I followed precisely your template code structure (first of all, I started from template generator scheme), but the results are not the desired.
Testing in progress.

Nevermindspy, how is work advancing with your RMG?! Seems that people in TOH don't want to hear about RGM templates To think that in H3 almost only templates were played...
Perhaps your creation can move us towards RMG....

Here are RMG Template layouts with zone connections, possible contents and optimal map settings in english as well. Take a look at them before game and experience 3 times more pleasure than from original RMG

I don't have some of them, where can I download? This triangular one looks promising.
Also, I tried to write my own template from scraps, but it doesn't work - just something in RMG flashes and I see nothing.

I HATE the concept.! It appears in these templates, you always know where your opponent will start. Thats 90% of why I like randoms is NOT having any clue where my opponent is!! unless I am understanding it wrong.

well yes.. cant have it all
either pick no show mini-map and random template, which gives usually a poor quality map
or play a standard made template
(or play huge with infinitus )

Semi-true. With templates you KNOW the number and relative strength of neutral blocks between players. But you DON'T KNOW the position on the map for your opponent.
Also, with RMG Templates you always switch OFF minimap. So, Jinxer, it seems that you actually might like templates In general, you have to try a decent RMG Template just once to notice the vast difference in quality compared to original RMG! So, try it!

actually after f1-2 shots on each template you know how it goes, but i guess that gives alrdy bout dozen quality games for each homm player
..also you didnt note each template's name, i guess on purpose to give the chance for blind games?

Found out about templates today. Tried it. Loved it. Makes me wanna play again I especially like the Onward template, although i must admit i didn't get a closer look on other ones yet.

No doubt about it, but most of them are simply too big. I mean, the recommended map size is too big, as i don't imagine playing the "spider" on Small with no underground 
I prefer to play Medium maps, but Large without under is fine too I guess.
That's why i liked Chaos, Smile and Onward the best so far.
I'll definetly have to play a game or two later this week, so beware!
I suggest you run and hide before it's too late

Good day to you all!
I am attempting to make a 4 player template.
I had some success with my script, some troubles. I came across the problem of the RMG being able to use my template, but thinking it was only meant to 2 players - I could only use it if I told it to generate a 2 player map using my template, or if I left it random (but then it was always 2 player).
Then I realised that 2 of the four starting zones actually weren't set as starting zones, just zones with towns. 'How daft', I thought!
And so I fixed them up. Everything else looks good. Saved and closed the template and HOMM V. Restarted HOMM V, went to the RMG and...it's still doing the same thing.

Simple version without the layout I want:

Black symbolises starting positions. The dark grey positions (2,4,6,8) have towns, which are ideally set to be the same castle types as their neighbours (1,3,5,7). If I have to, these can be random, but I considered making it an 8 player map generater that would work well for allied play, as well as for aggressive play from the start in an 8 player Free For All (gain your 'expansion' quite quickly). These positions each have 1 each of the resource buildings, except no gold mines. The light grey indicates a junction area with ore, wood and gold, as well as some treasure. The golden/khaki points are heavily guarded treasure hordes while the purple is the dangerous wide centre area with a lot of upgrading buildings (dolmen of knowledge etc) and shrines. Intended for battles and learning.
The blue numbers by the sides indicate the original area sizes (don't need to stay at these values, but they were 8 for town areas, 6 for junction areas, 25 for middle and 15 for treasuries).
Now using 6,4,15 & 10.
Red lines are two-way connections and the blue/cyan/green squares merely indicate desired guardians for the passageways (fairly easy/moderate/very nasty)
When testing, I used a simplified version, but I'm going to just post the full (not working) version below.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong with the code?
Also feel free to move this to a new topic if you think it necessary, but I thought that if my problems are solved, a lot of useful advice may have been pointed out in this thread.

Wow, how long till I'd learn to use that code I wonder 
Anyway, I haven't used random maps in a looong while. Isn't it possible to generate one with hidden minimap and send it to other people over the Net as a multiplayer map and play it that way?
Where exactly do you find the maps not found in the maps folder, I forgot?
