True. That would avoid new threads for quick questions. Although these are usually made by newcomers or people that do not care to search for existing topics, so it might be a waste. Anyway, this thread is now stickied, and we'll see how it goes.

I doubt there is but one open forum with no such a problem...

Either way - I'm going to make use of the fresh sticky and ask first question. I visited the Editing Abilities topic, as well as Kronos1000 tutorial and The modding wiki. I had searched whole modding section, and did not found the solution to my problem.

Every model I try to re-colour ends up with black parts - leftovers which are transparent in the original model, but perfectly visible after making mod from the texture.
Here's an exemple of edited Warlock's fat yellow larva, which by some mistake is often reffered to as a reptile



Just as Kronos1000 and Sfidanza suggested - I played a bit with the alpha channel of the textures in CS2. I made the background around the hero white, black, pink, and some other colours.
The same with the parts I wanted to make gone. I tried inverting it, delating it, blasting the whole alpha channel to oblivion... To no avail. I can't make the parts invisible, although I can make them any colour Example:

And for the question - Could You please point me out my mistake, for I simply run out of ideas. How to make those parts dissapear.

Not sure If this is the right place but I'd like to ask if anyone can make a mod to recolor those ugly gums from Warlock's reptile right now it looks like it has some mouth disease or somethin'. If none is willing then I'll try by reading the guides but please if someone has any spare time to do this I would be very gratefull

Lmao, I guess i'll end my small modding adventure now.
Even though i took the texture, and simply made a mod from it without making ANY changes at all I still get the black snow over the model xD

The only thing you did in your texture is remove the alpha channel transparency for these parts. So of course, now they're showing a big black square. What did you want to do exaclty?
Basically, you should have added more black areas in the alpha channel, not remove them.

More black parts in the alpha channel? Mhm.
Take a look at a model with only black alpha channel:

Either the texture or mod.
As I writed. I can colour any part of the alpha channel any colour - be it black, white, ping, orange, purple, yellow. with the effect of no other than You can see.

I'm planning to screenshot all the different creatures in their neutral state from a certain angle, so I need to open up the different units in the Heroes Editor.

If the alpha is black it is transparent, if it is white then it is solid, what if it is grey?

I don't know how you edit it, but the problem is obviously there.
Maybe you do not check "Alpha Channels" in Photoshop Save dialog box.

In the dds plugin save box, you should choose DXT3 (which you did), in "No Mip Maps" (but this shouldn't matter). And basically nothing else.

i have this question im botherd.
most of the mods i've seen only change the colors "pallate sawp for 3d".
however what about brining a new model in?
oh and swiching the models between hell stalion and nightmare.

Checked Alpha models within saving dialog box, whiped alpha channel black, or simply deleted it and replaced it with another one, also black, still with no effects. When I opened the textures I gave here - alpha channel was black...
Ok, I guess i'll pass now. Enough of time was taken with no effects.

[EDIT]
I found the problem. the snowing snow, known as DDS converter 2 made the alpha channel white every snowing time I converted anything into .dds. With photoshop plugin there is no problem.

undoble as the problam but inability to create a new model,or in ability to place it ingame?
i remmber toying with it years ago and stmbling on magic extractor,its softwere that extracts graphickal resource from games such as homm4-5 ,and allowing u to replace one model with another,using the resouce,make it based on h3 wog.lol

could somebody help i have unchecked read only to chance stats,but still i cant change stats,dmg,abilities also,i have putted view dos text,srly wtf?
