Well, it's very hard to tell which magic school is best, 'cause the game isn't even released so how could I have tested them?! But I voted for nature, 'cause the idea of summoning new creatures sounds cool, so I voted for the one I probably like the most.

You can't guess what I voted for... :oP

Don't sure if nature is going to be the best... NWC are doing everything to balance the game.. But talking about so far favourites, I think voted for the right thing... Yep, summon is cool ...

It depends on you - do you like to attack the enemies with spells or to defend your creatures... Someone may like the town but not the magic school that is in it and vice versa. What should he choose? The magic that he likes or the town that he likes?

Chaos is easily going to be the best school. Let's think here:

Chaos is the school of Magic that specializes in doing the most direct damage very quickly. Now, Chaos magic is the only school that really has spells like that, putting other schools at an extreme disadvantage - things such as lightning bolt, chain lightning, and other direct damage spells make up a huge part of magical combat.

Until I see the spell lists, I won't vote

because I think each will have its own special advantages and disadvantages. Chaos will definitely be the most straight-forward, but I think Nature and Order will be more versatile and Life and Death a bit more subtle in their effectiveness.

Although death should be my speciality as a necro, due to it's subtility I can't afford when fighting against a strong adversary to wait for it's efects ( but let's see first what death's capable of).You have to hit hard and be the first to do so.

Best Magic School?

This, really is a very illogical question. Are you planning to answer it yourself, or do we count as your dictator?
No offense meant

Anyway, it really depends on two main reasons; what your style is, and what situation you find yourself in at the time.

Taking the former into perspective, if you like to really blast your opponent out of the water, go ahead and use the spells like Armaggedon and Implosion. Or you may like enhancing your creatures before you jump in at full bore, you could then use spells such as slayer, bless, haste and others like these. Another fancied method is to create illusions, and summon elementals to compete against others for you, and in the process, only losing spell points, and not creatures.
Something that we do not associate with spells as much is their use outside of battle. The spells which are cast can be extremely beneficial to your cause. Such as using Dimension Door. You may go almost anywhere at your discretion. Town Portal you could use to get to your town quickly, without having to troop halway across the land, especially if it an extra-large. View Heroes, Visions, and Summon Boat are very cheap spells that I found useful in the context of a large scenario.

If you take the latter, you could be sailing through the ocean, and need to get to a castle before your neighbour does. You specialise in Chaos Magic, is it really going to help you? No. If you were equipped with another order which specialised in movement and outside-battle acticity, you would find that order much more forthcoming and useful than Chaos Magic, and it that context, it would certainly be better to have. But, on the other hand, you are situated in the middle of a castle siege, and the opponent has a much stronger army than you possess. It would help you minutely if you specialised in Order magic. It would be a lot better to your cause if you had Chaos or Death magic handy to fully annihilate the enemy. Another method is to enhance your troops and  than attack with heightened strength and ability.

So, really the best magic system could be Death, Order, Life, or Nature.

Resurrection,...yes, only if you will still have a hero after I cast my implosion. But it's to early to say which is best, and to tell you the truth I think this time the guys at 3do did a good job in balancing the spells.I think it will be only a matter of personal preferences in choosing the order, and not an obvious advantage.

I would chose life... because I personally always have. Healing plus blessings probably, as well as maybe regenerative spells and turn undead and maybe even a direct damage spell thrown in there for good effect.

Moderators hat off for this post

Since nobody has mentioned it yet ...what about the "Sixth School of Magic" .... i.e. None?

Let's assume Implosion is still in the game, and a Chaos spell. Odds are it'll be 5th level again. This requires Grandmaster Chaos magic to cast. Given that one of the interviews stated that you need to be Grandmaster in the two secondary skills of Healing and Meditation to get Grandmaster Life magic, that probably applies to all schools of magic. You'll need Grandmaster in the 'spell power' and 'spellpoints' skill to be Grandmaster in that school.

Now, consider a Barbarian with Grandmaster Resistance, and at least master level in some of the Combat or Tactics skills and sub-skills. (say, Archery, Offense, and Toughness) And look out for your Chaos mage's behind.

The truth of the matter is that the designers have made a serious attempt to balance everything out, and that means pure Might should take an equal place on the field again. Not superior ... just equal.

I like the Idea behind Order magic.  Illusions and mind control.  I hope that the hypnotise spell is actually worthwhile, there is nothing more fun than attacking a guy with his own troops.

I think that's been changed. In the GamePen preview (I think), the writer mentioned that for all primary skills, you must have the first two secondaries for that skill each at two levels below the one you want to get (both must be at Basic to get Expert ____, both must be at Advanced to become a Master, and both must be at Expert to become a Grandmaster). Even so, it'll still be difficult to get Implosion, and heroes with Resistance will hardly be affected (w/ Grandmaster Resistance they won't). That's why Chaos may not be the best. You can deal with creatures (other than those with Chaos Ward), but heroes with Resistance can't be touched by it. Beneficial spells (Life, Nature, and maybe some Order) may become more useful than harmful spells (Death, Chaos, some Order), especially when facing other heroes.

As far as the Implosion is concerned I don't think that it will end up in the Chaos magic school. Why? Because Chaos school is closest to the Fire school from HOMM3. And Implosion was Earth magic. On the other hand Earth magic had ressurection and animate dead. One that belongs to the Life magic now, and the second that goes in the Death school.

On the CHU forum I've asked Jonah of Game Pen to tell me something more about the game, since he has playtested HOMM4. He was not willing enough to say much, but he told me that the Death magic had some pretty cool offensive spells.

And since we know that the Life magic is all about defence and healing, I can say that the Implosion belongs to the Death magic school.

If we're talking about the spell which give the highest damage in the game, then it MUST be in Chaos Magic. Anything else is an insult on the system which dictates that Chaos specializes in damage spells.

For Implostion I can see three ways out. It can:
a: be gone from the game.
b: be toned down so it's not the most powerful spell any more, it would then IMO probably be in Death, or perhaps in Naure. (But not in Order or Life)
c: be in Chaos Magic
