[MOD] Visual conversion Necropolis tier 7 Knights not Dragons (TotE)

This is my first attempt at modding, my goal was to change the tier 7 creatures of the Necropolis i.e. Bone Dragons, Spectral Dragons and Horror Dragons and use the Black Knight/Death Knight model instead.
I modified the text files so that descriptions and building names fit.
This mod doesn't change the stats of creatures it's only a visual conversion (knights can teleport, they don't fly like dragons).







You can download the mod here.

Credits should go to Arstahd (Dark knight mod which was a source of inspiration) and I'd like to thank EliteKill (Modding for Dummies), VokialBG (for the teleport ability), 2ndHero (for editing textures) and last but not least Radar (for his tutorial on appearance changes).

Let me know what you think about this.

I have no idea about the way I could alter Dragon Utopias in the game so there may be some Knights in there!

In this version Knights don't teleport, Wights do fly. I didn't change the stats or the abilities.

Good job, I like the conversion. Never thought that dragons exactly fit my blessed necropolis. They're cheap too. Excellent job. Couple bits of advice.

1. Flip-flop the models for the black knight and dread knight. I think that Batwinged helmets look better than horned ones, except when they are atop a liches head.
2. The teleport is the same for each one. I like it, but maybe some diversity could spice this good mod up a little.

Thanks for the comments and the feedback! I used some textures from Arstahd's mod (especially the edited horses) and the files for the Black Knight already existed in the game so it wasn't too hard.

I actually tried to do this at first but I had a hard time, my files were in the right folders and I think I gave them the proper names for the links I made but it just wouldn't work in game and I ended up with this setting. I guess I could try one more time to invert the helmet design of dread knights and black knights but that would mean working on the icons as well.

A friend told me he liked the horned ones better so I decided to let it rest (by the way the winged helmet is the Black Knight's original design). Still I might give it a shot. I'm new at this so I need time to figure things out.

This is rather easy and there are two lines per model to edit. All you need is Winrar. Check this thread if you want to give it a try.

I used the lich cloud effect for all three units for uniformity but another effect could be used for the unupgraded creature. What do you have in mind?

I didn't change anything so their abilities are just the same as regular dragons (so no death strike!). Knights shouldn't teleport but I gave it to compensate for the flying ability (flying knights look silly).

I tried not to alter the stats my goal was to change the visuals only so if stats have changed it means I made a mistake.

Nice work so far, but these are the changes I would like to see:

-can you make the red areas purple, so they fit better with the alternative-upgrade line up.

-I don't like to see knights teleporting, maybe you can revive the old dark knights mod and make the wraiths tier 7.(In my opinion you don't need to make any visual changes to the wriaths)

Because of the liches, I don't like this to be changed, unless you change the liches too. It makes the faction more uniform as a whole.

Truth be told I wanted the icon of the other upgrade to look darker... Right now it's a bit "purple". So either I'll have to work on the icon or on the body (I already have tried to change it somehow but I wasn't thrilled by the result). Dread Knights look quite good in black.

My point was to change the visuals and not tamper with the stats because of game issues. I wanted to preserve the balance of the unmodded game.

I had two possibilities, either let the knights fly without teleport or make them use teleport. Knights flying is utterly silly since they go up in the air... teleport was the lesser evil.

If I had changed them to non flyers it would have changed the balance of the game and I would have had to boost their stats or give them some perk (jousting or death strike for instance).

But like I said that wasn't my objective.

I agree that Wraiths wouldn't look that bad flying. It would raise other issues but I could try (putting Wraiths instead of Dragons and Knights instead of Wraiths).

Maybe there is some misunderstanding. I agree the Dread knights look good and don't need to be changed. I should use the Dread knights with the original upgrade line, because it has the same black/green colors. I thought you could use the red death knights for the alternative upgrade line and make them purple instead of red.

I want to preserve the balance too. In my opinion the stats/abilites from the wights/wriaths fit the dark knights well and the stats/abilities from the dragons do not hurt the wights/wriaths either.

I only have 1 thing to point out that I don't like.

2 Colors (Red and Black) used for 3 units.
I suggest have 1 Red (un-upgraded), 1 Black (Up-A) and 1 Purple (Up-B)

Teleport Ideas: The current teleport should be the unupgraded. Forgive me if i'm an ineducable dunce, but if it is possible, splicing Slow and Vulnerability to teleport would be nice for the Dread Knight. As for the death knight, maybe a nice fluorescent green teleport. Like decay or something (decay would fit because of Death Knight.

As for recoloring, I think the scheme of all the factions should be upheld in any mod. As such, it wouldn't hurt to recolor the units to the normal/fluorescent green/purple scheme. And good point with the Lich. In thought of that, so it indeed would change the balance and consistency of the line-up.

I'll try to fix the purple thing and make the dread knights purple/less black.

Anyway I updated my original post with another version with Wraiths as tier 7 and Knights as tier 6. Knights don't teleport and that's much better. Wraiths fly and they look quite good when they are flying.

Let me know what you think about that one.

Just some suggestions:

Black Knight: none, let it stay as it is.

Death Knight: The same but instead of pink sword let it be green like the Black Knights sword. Or maybe make the armor and such green but the sword and visir/ helm t-shape purple etc.





Dread Knight: Let the t-helm shape and sword turn red.
    Whats up with the icon pic not follow up btw????





Forget aboout the window and background colors, also I oculdnt get the nice red-black Dread Knight colors with the Death Knight pic...

I like what you did with the green one (second image). I tried to make a more purple Death Knight. Check the original post for another edit and a link.

The others are pretty dark.
I like the green/black mix better than the orange/dark.
But that just my taste.

Now I need to find a way to get the Banshee animation for the Wail to work with the Knight model...
