I realize that many of you that have had larger amounts of experience with the game are not entirely satisfied. That's fine, since this guide was actually meant as an introduction to Heroic difficulty for those who are risking playing at harder levels.

After playing a few games and testing them, the guide will be subject to change but not anytime soon. The main difficulty I came up with is the economic problems regarding Fortress faction (for most of their buildings consume plenty of resources).

So in the next few weeks, whenever I'm not doing homework or studying, I'll be playing various skirmishes in order to help out even the expert players.

I think most of the hints are fair though, and are a good way to go into a harder difficulty.

Any help will be welcome InfernoX880 Multiplayer is quite different to single but skirmishes are a good way to prepare for tough games and improve your creeping techniques.

InfernoX880, I just wanted to say that your guide has really opened my eyes to effective strategies. I never knew how effective the ballista was with the orcs until a few days ago (I always chose the Catapult so I can knock down the gate and the arrow towers). When I saw the results, I was amazed. Thanks.

Dwarves play interestingly. They will rarely have problems with gold, their Capitol costing a mere 8000 gold and all other buildings are respectively cheap. However, the mass cumulation of Crystals can cause problems. In most scenarios, as you purchase Thanes, your enemy has his Tier 7 unit (AI of course). The Mages need five of each precious resource which is what you start off with...but the Runic Guild which is  a prequisite needs 1 of each precious resource. So that will be delayed as well.

Good news is that Fire Dragons are not too expensive.

I just started playing Sylvan and i use almost the same strat as yours except that i make mage guild first before mystic pool if res at the start allows on the map. Also I think you are wrong about treants , they are awesome for Sylvan....so i rather build them first before unicorn if wood allows. Unicorn isn't that much of a tank fighting tier 4+ but treants do a super job holding off melee while my hunters and druids kill them. I can start creeping tier 4-6 melee as soon as i get my first 2 treants out which is usually by end of week 2 or early week 3 if map really lacking in wood.

Some time ago I had plans to organize the strategy guides, see what can be updated, which are still in effect and from which point on. I apologize but I did not have the time to spare but I also realized a few things:

For one the Table of Contents has everything you could hope for in detailed sections, Alc and TDL did a good job. I wish more people checked the stickies, many of the questions asked can be found there.

Then on checking some of the strategy guides I saw that they are mixed. Each one has its own discussions and even the outdated ones contain basic strategies and builds. Even if the builds and features change, the use of ie counterspell remains the same. They are all part of the whole and I have no plans to dig through every single one of them to pinpoint where each discussion is.

As it is they are difficult to organize because the author made his masterpost and from there on things kept being added, some new, others rediscovered, random questions etc. I don't think all contain unit roles, skill evaluation, creeping, map type's influence on gameplay, faction specific strategies. Some depend on the fact that you know certain things, others ignore the possibilities. It is because of this reason that it is easier to write a new guide than organize the existing ones.

Btw a certain member is working on a sylvan guide for some time now, that's a start

If you have a decent amount of Spell Power and accidentally got Destruction Magic

I question the bolded.

Why?

Sylvan's Mage Guild is aligned to Light and Destruction-you're guaranteed to get spells from those schools.  So Destruction would be a wise choice for an Elven hero.  I think their chance of getting Destruction is 8%?  Pretty decent.

Not 100% but high chance you'll see it. But why would you go for destruction , i'll take light any day or even dark. Spellpower is quite weak unless you channel with druids.

i'll take light any day or even dark. Spellpower is quite weak unless you channel with druids.

And I, on the other hand, would go with Destruction rather than Light.(though both have a high chance of turning up, there's no reason NOT to go with BOTH, frankly).

The majority of Light spells can't be Imbued, being buffs(It's not that buffs aren't useful, don't misunderstand), and you've admitted  Spellpower isn't 'high' by default(Though who's the 'standard' when it comes to Spellpower?  Who are we comparing to?  Not Warlocks, surely?), meaning that the effects of the buffs/debuffs will NOT last long-and if those statuses(Buffs/Debuffs) aren't lasting for long enough for them to be decently USEFUL, they're pointless.  At least Destruction is an immediate tangible effect, always useful for the most part.

They're oddly similar to their Dark Elf kin-except where they blast directly, they're Imbuing the magic in their arrows and hitting you that way instead(So the scaled Hero damage plus the spell and whatever it provides).

The Dark Elf guild is Destruction+Dark, rather than Destruction+Light.

Hmm...Both sides seem to subscribe to 'Deadly Damage fast'.

And you say 'Except when channeling with High Druids' like that's a bad thing.  I don't see it as so.

To each their own.

But I'm not coming from the multiplayer circuit, like seemingly 95% of people here.  Singleplayer, mainly on Normal, is where I'm at for now.

....But I've been rambling too long as it is.  I just wanted to help.
