In my opinion it is Haven...
And why?
Becasue Doomforge said it is hard to master and he is a master
So if he says so- I must believe...
What's more- I didn't find really hard playing other factions

Haven without war machines...Can't take on much early battles until later part of the game where the griffins and paladins are out
Die fast, and troops slow.
No chance against sylvan shooters in early game without war machines, unless you're prepared to take losses

I don't understand these "without war machines" phrases.

To me it seems like saying academy without any magic skills.

To play yes, to master no Anyone can start a game and attack pack of creatures but it's another things going for lots or horde. The game has amazing potential if you know how to use each faction well.

But mastery is not about creeping but also tactics, adaptability, map navigation and strategy against each and every other faction according to how late in the game you are.

Personally I think academy and fortress are harder to get into.

Being a fan doesn't make a faction easier to master. I like Fortress, but i find it difficult to play it as successfully as some other races.

Academy has wide variety of options so its somewhat harder to master as well.

I don't find Aca very hard to master...
I use only Phoenix + Arma and everybody die
Especially when I can take the fortress and hire some backup for gargoyles and magnets...

About the Fortress- I have to agree. Their creeping needs mastery, not to say a word about late-game.
You don't have the rage like orcs, but you are as slow as them...
You can use light magic but you are slower than Sylvan...
The only way is to Master The Defense- because that's the thing they do the best...
Runes can be very usefull but you have to be very aware- cuz if game becomes too long- you would loose ability to use the runes, or you will have to spend your heroes to turn to refresh JUST ONE...
Noone said the most important...
Also the costs of the runes are great...
But, anyway, with fortress you can kick ass. Badly...

Have to agree on fortress, they're too defensive a faction to master well .. when big fights, they can't resurrect as much as we would like.
Guess mark of fire + fireball/amargedon ignite combo would be best solution to that

Unfortunately Fortress need extreme hybrid build...
They don't have to much Spellpower- but they need to take destructive to be very efficent...
They don't have to much attack and they need to base (even slightly) on their creatures...
What's more- their special boosts creatures not the spells...
To sum up- they are to weak to stand without heroes dealing great damage and/or refreshing runes and their hero is to weak to cast spells efficently...
The only ways are to risk- and go for that armageddon paying in weaker creatures or use Refresh rune and focus on the creatures (which are veeeeery expenisve and don't deal great damage if not boosted by light or runic magic)...
Dwarven Hero Build would suppose him to take Light Spells, but as everyone sees, they can only support, not help very much the fortress...
But, if anyone chooses the only-might build and don't take ANY magic- then his Spellpow and Mana are wasted and they are quite easy to get :/
So only Hybrid and very focused for whole the game

We are talking about that just now -_- Why do you write the same things that some time ago other dudes did, but a bit summerised?

That's true there are lots of Paths for Runemage, but they are really hard to master them in the level you can play just competitive...

At first, fortress is the hardest for me, try it in heroic.

Then i realize this faction is turtle type, so turtling is fortress key to success.

I have only played a few games and haven't tried all the faction yet. judging only from a few duels, the one who seemed harder to me is the stronghold, because of the lack of magic. and the easiest seems to be the sylve.

Have you played full duel- so fo r example on penisula, or just duels in dule mode?
If in duel mode, orcs lack their primary ability- Blood Rage. It is only on advanced level. Only Haggash has Exp...
If you have problems with playing Stronghold- try taking Defense. It appeals simply to no-one but there is one trick- double preserve. Damage is absorbed by two skills...
I have tried this and after three shoots of castle towers 8 centaurs ws killed. THE SAME AS WOULD BE KILLES WITH ONE TOWERS' STRIKE...
I pick defense inspite of warmachines, becasue: First Aid tent have 3 healing times and sometimes you need to bother a lot to make it act in the place you really need to...
Flaming Ballista is very nice but:
- Everybody can have it so it isn't something unusual
- It can be killed easily with your own cyclops, your enemies ballista, your enemies shooters, or area spelss just on the beggging of the combat... So there is a great chnace you won't have any use of it...
And defense boosts all your creatures survivability making them simply indestructible...
I'm really sad I hadn't Saved the the reply when about 50 BloodEyeds attacked my Untamed and didn't manage to kill just ONE even tough he was even hasted by the chieftan...
Try to guess how many HP did my Cyclops have after that strike
