It has gotta be Fly and Dimension Door tied first for H3 Level 5 spells. Unfortunately many mapmakers disable these spells.
Next has gotta be Implosion - doing 1,000 extra points of damage to your enemy can be very devastating.

Oh, come on. We all know that summon ___ elemental with expert intelligence and shackles of war is the best combat spell.

Fly is the best simply coz u don't have to fight guards to collect arties, boxes..etc..
DD, fly and wings are such a toss..

If I get the orb of vulnerability,I cast magic mirrior on my dragons,so that if I accidentaly cast something on them,it will reflect to the enemy!
Yeah right magic mirror has gotto be the most pointless spell in the game!
I like Implosion.

This is a hard Q, but i think the best 5th lvl spells are:
-dimension door (does it exist in HOMM4, I haven't seen it)
-hypnotize
-steal all enhancements
-dragon strenght
i would also have said town portal, but that's not a 5th lev..

definitly the best magic is dimension door because on expert you can go whereever you like
 and then is implosion

First DD , then Town Portal.
It also depends of the situation. I dont remember how many times have I lost just because i couldnt find antimagic. If I had it in that time , I would have won.

If i remember correct, townportal is no 5th level spell!!

Crazy as it is, I find the 4 elementals quite interesting sometimes. There was once where my brother issued me a challenge. He gave me 7 pickmen to fight against a neutral stack of Level 4 monsters (think was Pagasi and about 100 of them). I was quite advanced (about level 22 and was a magic hero). What he thought me was to split my pikemen into 7 stacks of 1 and just keep casting my elementals and watch the opponent run after my elementals. If you happen to lose all your pikemen, just resurrect one of them. Needless to say, 6 pikemen died and I got quite a bit of XP.
Note: It helps if you have lots of spell points (was at about 800 that time with fountain plus expert intelligence)

Beating some monsters when u have 800 mana. WOOOHOOO!
Brilliant.... Absolutely brilliant.
I have another great story: once I had a lvl 160 hero, 10 zillion mana, 1 fast unit and I beat 20 zillion skeletons by first slowing them and than using Implo 20 billion times.
Great isn't it? Ain't I the best player in the world?
Come on guys....

DD is the best imo. U get expert air, and u can go anywhere. Pick up all arties without fighting guards. Run from an oppenent. Or if your oppenent knows u have it, he can never leave his castle area with the men or u just dd to it and take it. Open all those guarded boxes and u will eventually get all the spells u could need.
Fly is a good second but doesnt have the range of the dd.
Any combat spells are good, but if someone has the red orb u are screwed!

DD obviously, but if your a really good mage, i would say summon earth,. they are hard to beat when you can summon 100 of them a round. then when the battle is nearing a end ressurect and you wont die LOL

Surely sacrifice is weaker than ressurection, ´cause with sacrifice one stack of unit is gone forever, with ressurection you can get all your lost (living) units back

you can get 100 earth elementals with somewhere near 30 power and expert earth i think, add to that if you have the artifacts for 50% bonus earth spells and summon bonus spells. (is there a hero with summon bonus? i seem to remember it but im not sure)
personnaly i never summoned creatures before playing H4 because you need to in H4, i learned the art of it. can implosion kill 100 earth elementals? 4000 hp worth of elementals to what 2000 implosion? (numbers off sorry but im at work)
you will win the battle but sometimes it gets hard to keep your hero.

Wrong my friend Draco, the orbs only affect the spells who do some damage like implossion or meteor shower, doesn't affect to the others spells like elemental spells...and no summon bonus
