The woman is entitled to half. It is obvious that the man didn't love her, but was with her perhaps out of habit, perhaps out of image. He probably realized that he didn't love her wife at all when he won, if indeed he hadn't realized it earlier. The running away can be either greed or just bitterness towards the woman, if they had a horrible marriage.

The law is simple, at least in the US. If you marry without a prenuptial agreement then everything that is accumulated throughout the marriage, regardless if you worked or not, is split 50-50. This includes retirement benefits, pensions, furniture, houses, cars, everything but inheritance is split.

I think it might be diferent in other states though.
I know in California it's 50-50.
Might be dif elsewhere though.
