Alternative Heroes

I've been thinking for a while about if I actually wanted another expansion for HOMM5 and I've been waffling.  I like the expansions so far and ToE really gives many different options for the game, but I realized that it didn't give as many as I'd like.  And these options aren't in respect to the units.  Instead I think the heroes have become too static.  There just isn't enough of a difference from one hero to the next within a faction.  So I thought I would come up with an alternative for each.

The problem is that the faction towns are setup to encompass the current heroes, so they would have to not only add additional heroes, but also have subtle additions to the town to create openings for different types of leaders.  Here is what I came up with:

HAVEN:

Cleric
Description:  Clerics are the Holy Griffin Empire's soft hand.  More interested in the safety of their troops, the cleric ignoresthe knight's focus on counterstrike and instead actively heals their units every opportunity they get.

They are well-armored warriors that ride the light-blessed pegasus, carrying a cudgel and a shield into battle.

Skills and Abilities:

Lay Hands Skills 1-4:  The Lay Hands skills is the racial skill for all clerics.  It allows them to train their units in Haven towns, though with more cost than their compnion knights.  However their Lay Hands skills focuses on their ability to heal, allowing them to automatically heal injured units in battle depending on their skill level.

Eternal Blessing Ability:  This ability gives all units in the cleric's army a morale, initiative, and luck bonus at the beginning of the battle.

Greater Healing Ability:  This ability strengths first aid tents and increases the affectiveness of the Regeneration and Resurrection Spells.

Turn Undead Ability:  This activated ability can select one undead unit and causes damage based on the cleric's level and force them to retreat several spaces.

Mass Resurrection Ability:  The cleric's ultimate ability gives a mass affect to the Resurrection spell for double the cost (A five by five square).  To gain this ability the Cleric must have the Guardian Angel Ability, the Preparation Ability, and the Herald Ability.

Herald Ability:  A Leadership ability that requires the Divine Guidane Ability, this ability increases the weekly growth of the 7th level creatures in a town by 1.  The hero must be stationed in the town at the beginning of the week.

NECROPOLIS:

Revenant:
Description:  Unlike the famed Necromancers, the Revenants are not focused on the dark arts.  Instead they are simply the strong arm of Asha striking down her enemies.  They are most feared for their ability to steal the power of the soul and use enemy souls to strengthen their shambling armies.

The greatest of the wraiths, revenants dress in white bone armor and a dragon-skull helmet while weilding a deathscythe as they float across the landscape looking for their next victem.

Skills and Abilities:

Soul Steal Skills 1-4:  Revenants cannot use the skill of necromancy, instead they draw dark energy from defeated enemies and can use that energy to attack other enemies, or strengthen their army.  The skill increases how much energy they recieve from defeated creatures and allows them to use dark energy to upgrade units at the Necropolis.

Dark Energy Blast Ability:  This activated ability allows the revenant to fire dark energy on an enemy doing damage based on their level.

Augmentation of Spirit Ability: This ability increases the initiative of the revenant's army, based on how much dark energy is at the revenant's disposal.

Soul Devour Ability:  This activated ability allows the revenant to attack an enemy creature stack directly and immediately take dark energy from the units defeated.

Soul Bind Ability:  This ability allows the revenant to select one creature stack.  Whenever that stack is attacked, instead of damaging the creatures, the attack removes dark energy.  The creature cannot be damaged until all of the revenant's dark energy is expelled.  To gain this ability, the Revenant must have the Stare of Death Ability, the Frozen Touch Ability, and the Bone Armor Ability.

Stare of Death Ability:  An Attack ability that requires the Cold Steel Ability and the Battle Frenzy Ability, this ability reduces the morale of all living enemy creatures by -3.

Frozen Touch Ability:  A Destructive Magic ability that requires the Cold Death ability, this ability gives the revenant's direct attacks the freezing effect.

Bone Armor Ability:  A Defense ability that requires the Chilling Bone Ability, this ability increases the defense of all undead creatures by 1.

Those are just two of the eight I came up with, but I'm interested to see what people think before I spend the time to post more.

Thinking Outside the Box

So from what I understand you wont to increase the selection of hero types available Classes similar to Heroes 4 where the selection is of a Might or a Magic though not completely to that fact from your design suggestions.

true potential, stay inside the
box and say the same.
