Wow, I remember that naval combat idea I had. Ugh, it was horrible. I really tried to make naval combat a main feature of my H6 (well it wasn't that bad, got a QP for it ;P)
Your name was said here three years ago, when I was just a n00b that came with a few ideas
I still have some ideas, but it's useless to share them here because H6 is in progress and it will be realeased and I saw that the idea with the new-stats upgrade system isn't good since nobody said something about it.

your system based on the number of battle fought is flawed, because it doesn't take in consideration how hard the battle are. currently, the amount of experience you gain is proportionnal to the amount of creature you defeat, so I'm not sure where is the problem.
the one annoying thing is each level is harder to gain than the previous one. and while getting from level 19 to level 20 is much harder than getting from 1st to 2nd, the bonus isn't necessarily bigger. (well, of course, the more levels you have, the easier it is to win fights and gain experience, so maybe it balances things, but it seems, always come a point where it becomes very hard to level up, and then it's not really worth the effort)

Actually I have no problem with the system of H5, I just wanted to make things more intresting.
I think it's logic to be harder to get from level 19 to level 20 than from 1st to 2nd, and as you said, it's meant to balance things. My system has nothing to do with the amount of creatures you defeat each battle, that system is the same, I just wanted to encourage the player to fight more battles (especially in campaings) , rather than staying in the town and just recruiting and upgrading ...
