Wow, things are getting hot

We already had general discussion about ranking points etc. HERE.

This thread is only about one-time event - special tourney with fixed number of scheduled games and ~ 1 month of fun&good emotions. So, pls, focus your comments here only about this specific tourney.

As for making arena tourney like hero-tourney - good idea, I would participate in such a tourney myself. But I'm most certainly not up to organize it. So lets try to play out this one (in which i'm ready to invest lots of time and energy to make it top-quality tourney) and then somebody else can take the initiative over

Also i'm glad that new players are still coming in to this tourney

So regarding the number of games, lets make it this way - if there will be 8 or 9 participants (currently there are already 8), then everyone plays with everyone 4 games. If there will be 10 or more players, then lets stick to initial plan of "everyone with everyone plays 2 games".

Hope to see some more of you hard-core ToHers here Just try out arena, its 100 times more fun then dumb Ubisoft duels, which indeed get boring after few dozens of games

As indicated in the other thread, I can do some of the Arena Duels.  This is actually better for me because I can not dedicate the hours normal games usually take.  Arena's are a bit faster.

I can't play with Towerlord. He is kicked out from my game, or vice versa. Anyone knows a solution for this?

To make things even stranger ... we live in the same town , and normally should have a good connection, but I guess our providers just don't like each other

@ TOWERLORD--

The reason is simply this. Its only possible to complete 1 game per day usually if playing standard... Whereas you can play 15-20 Arena games per day... maybe more lol..  so how do you expect the normal game players to compete when you are potentially gaininng 300pts a day and I gain 30pts.

Besides the rankings is there to gauge over all skill in the game.  Creeping - building - strategy.  Duel games are only Battle Skills.

Lol, 20 Arena games / day ?! Have you ever played at least one to know how long it takes? Imho 8-10 arenas/day is alot of playing, even for the most addicted ones... And that would mean reporting ~ 3 official games.
But in the end it doesn't matter because nobody wins always. Let's say he gets to play 3 times faster than you, but if he is not good, then he won't score any points. Someone can achive the same level of scoring points speed, just by playing small maps like Mystic's Vale, Heritage of Deleb.

I explained why creeping doesn't mean you are good, and weren't you the one that was always whining that he doesn't like to play games where creeping fast in order to reach a location full of goodies makes you win the game?
Building, don't get me wrong, but after playing a map for a couple of times, you are starting to use the same building pattern in 90% of the games...
Strategy, I don't know what aspect of the game you refer to, but in arena you get plenty of strategy... from the moment you start the game, you check your mage guild , your artifact shop, and your opponent's town, and start thinking of hero build to defeat him, counter his strengths and also throw him some surprises.

As Zilo said this is not the right place, discussions about this should be in the other thread...

Hello people, I guess I'm gonna participate to that tourney too.
I just hope the studies won't keep me too much from playing ; atm I don't really know when I will be available, probably at European afternoons/evenings (+2 GMT) : from 5PM to 11PM...
I will tell you if I finally have to retire or not.

There is only one day for registration left, so its your last chance to join to this marvelous event

Also few clarifications about tournament rules (will update first post with those, too):

1.As there are 11 players now (with hope that few more might join at the very last moment), format of the tourney will be "everyone with everyone plays 2 games".

2.For every arena game you can get 1 point for victory, 0 points for loss (which means in total 20 points max, if there will be 11 players).

3.Final rank of the tourney depends on the points gained - more victories you have, better you are (logically, ah? ).

4.If several players will have same amount of points, their final rank will depend on the outcome of the games between them. If this does not solve it, then additional games should be played between those players. Additional games are played till 2 vicoties ("best out of 3".

5.Duration of the tourney will be one month, which is more than enough to complete those 20 (or 22-24, if more ppl will join) arena games of the tourney. On special request minimal extention period will be allowed to finish all games.

As Samiekl is away, everyone, who did not play with him yet, gets technical victory 2-0 (in table it shows as "+").
All games played with Samiekl remain as played (although in this case it does not matter much, as he had only two 0-2 loses).

Same system will be applied, if somebody else will drop away from tourney (which, I hope, will not be the case).

Which means that we have rules for this and changing rules during the tourney is not permissible (although I agree with points made by Hero Radoo and Strider, so in next tourneys the system for "dropping out" should be different).

That is nonsense ... those rules were perfectly okei for that situation, but only for that. Common sense says that if a player is leaving a tournament like this, he should be removed completely or award the same points to everybody who has played/or has not played him.
Awarding win to the non-playing and thus giving them extra points compared to the ones who have lost or drawn against him is beyond the limits of human resoning and I think everyone in the tourney agrees that it should changed right now

It is not that easy.

Rule "not playing --> lost all games played already" won't work as an absolute truth. Simple sample: our leader Strider wins some more games 2-0 and is undisputable number 1, but starts extensive drinking session(), don't post anything in forums, don't show up in MSN and can't find time to play some 2 or 4 last arenas till dead-line. So, if "not playing --> lost all games played already", then the outcome is that he gets technical loss for whole tourney?

On the other hand, I agree that in the situation when there are ppl who act without responsibility (sign up for tourney, play one game and are gone for good without warning), it would be most appropriate to give wins for everybody against that player.

Therefore, the main question is - where do we draw the line between "unfinished few games" and "non-participation and withdrawing from tourney"? In other words, when there are losses for remaining games only and when there are losses in all games played and not played?

Only possible solution is that there are clearly set rules that govern the situation and those rules should be set before the tourney (or, at least, as early as possible). In our case, rule is the most simple (yet, I agree, may be not the most fair) - all not played games because of one player (no matter, 1 or 11) = lost games for that player. All played games are "set in stone".

Conclusion: for the present tourney we stick to the preset rules, but for the next tourney it should be possible to create clear and more fair criterias, when player gets loses for not played games and when - for not played as well as for played games.

things are not so complicated ... we simply ask them if they want to continue, or withdraw from the tournament.

if they choose to continue, then we can even award them some days to play their games ...

if they don't want to continue, then everybody gets win against them or we can erase them from the board, whichever is easier.
