BUG? or special bonus for crown of leadership? o_O

according to manual - diplomacy :

the join_threshold = random(1,7)* mood_coef

that's meaning:

if you want a neutral army to jion for money (normally ,with mood = aggressive ),

the power ratio must > 0.6 (with diplomacy & crown ,and super lucky random=1)

but,there is something shocking...

My hero commands only a peasant,  then the neutral army 69 footman jion us !!!

clearly ,the join_threshold is below 0.01!!!!

actually, I think it must below 0.

that's the special bonus for crown of leadership

so , that confuse me at all --- any other special factor hidden in the shining crown??

if your chinese is quite good, look at this

Those stacks were most likely set to "always join". What map is this, campaign, custom? I guess it's not an ordinary game, 220 k + gold isn't something that just happens

Very probable. From the last screenshot I can see like three stacks of wyverns packing up to block a road, which is unlikely to happen in random map (even week of wyvern won't create 3 stacks adjacent).

Wait a sec, if they are set to always join, wouldn't they join for free?

@sun1024,

My command of Chinese is quite alright, but your post on "crown on leadership" is very long and I need some time to read through and digest (not to mention that Heroes 5 has a lot of technical terms which, when translated to Chinese, may not be easily understood at first glance).

A very interesting discovery you have made, I am not exactly sure of reason, but perhaps you want to try equipping the crown of leadership on another hero besides Klaus and let us know if those stacks still join (Klaus is a cavalry specialist so that extra percentage may matter).

Thanks, please drop me an email (my email address can be found after you click on my avatar) so that I can ask queries or clarify doubts (such I-ask-you-and-you-reply-me posts may jam the forums so for the sake of the HC forums it is more preferable that such one-to-one discussions are better exchanged in emails).  You can use either English or Chinese, I have no problem with either.

the map is  lava core ,created by Evilp,

but ,I modified map for easy researching
1.there's two bulk gold coins , 100000 * 2 = 200000

2.offer a crown of leadership for free.

3. place 4 neutral wyverns and 4 neutral cavaliers with same quantity(100) ,same courage (jion or flee) same mood (aggessive)

after several test.. there is the conclusion:

with enough money , the crown ,and  the diplomacy skill,

hero have a certain chance to buy a neutral army with original price,no matter how tiny the power ratio is

the chance is same as the diplmacy chance which is indicated in the manual. that's meaning, creature specialization hero is the favorite .

but , money is necessary,   no money, no  jion

I also researched many maps , like dragon pass , MV , rise of power ,etc.

the default mood of neutral creature  is  aggessive ,except some guys  who guard the strategic pass and epic artifacts

so, this tip is quite useful ,

for example,
if  with bulkly gold, but lack of soiliers
you may try your luck with the creature specialization hero

the chance is above 55% ,  if BINGO! that's meaning  30+ paladin, 50+ unicorn , or 30+ sexy ladies

Too much money in a map is not that good IMHO.

Slightly off topic but I noticed that in some of my games (rich random maps but still not that rich) the AI could get reinforcements that way (more than 100 Pristine Unicorns can be a pain) and it made for very interesting games.

I once gained 80 Pits Lords for free with Diplomacy, the Crown and a really huge army (I checked in game, without enough troops they wouldn't join).

If I think my opponent is aiming at Diplomacy or if (worse) his main is a specialist I tend to try and wipe out big stacks of neutrals that can potentially join him.

Weeks of creatures can be a real treat (or a pain depending) especially when you can get many tier 7 creatures (not upgraded but still) that way.

EDIT: The Diplomacy thing has its drawbacks. Check the skillwheel and you'll find out that taking Diplomacy shuts a few interesting options:

-Barbarians get a hard time getting Battle Elation and Aura of Swiftness and can't take them both. Plus that means no Divine Guidance. But Diplomacy opens Empathy (great with Kragh).

-Diplomacy is very good for Demon Lords (required for Gate Master).

-Knights have to choose between Diplomacy and Empathy (Empathy for Knights is good since you might not want to pick up Sorcery).

-Necromancers won't benefit that much from Leadership (might even close a few options) I'd go for Herald of Death to get Haunted Mines. Diplomacy works well with Herald of Death but it sure is a weird -and rare- build for a Necro.

-Rangers fare well with Diplomacy --> Empathy. Secondaries should get Recruitment for Battle Commander however.

-Runemages can get some mileage out of it (especially Inga since she can go for Empathy with Diplomacy and Arcane Exaltation which are required for Empathy. The same goes for Warlocks and Wizards (Leadership being rare for Wizards it also opens up the road for Artificial Glory).

In my experience it's certainly not as good as Diplomacy in H3. In H5 you need a really big army for that strategy to pay off, you also need some luck. As stated in the thread money and specialists are a factor as well. Still some stacks won't join your army. At the end of the day if you get it to work with a big army it will only get bigger (it can be frustrating when the only stacks that offer to join you will ruin your formation or can't be upgraded without a Fort or the corresponding city, you can always kill them for the XP or gift them to a secondary hero to fight neutrals and scare away secondary heroes who would crush him otherwise). If it doesn't work out well... You didn't lose all the advantages Leadership confers.

I for one wouldn't go out of my way to get it but I would certainly consider it if it doesn't mess up my build. Just bear in mind that it's nowhere as good as it was in H3 (which is certainly a good thing).

but,it really happens, check the screenshot, please-- with one peasant,'buy' 69 footman successly

I am just curious about the reason - how it happens ? any other factor adjusting the threshold?
