ICTC IV - The Nest

The nest is a redone and unique naga faction of my ideals... i actually went a step further and made this faction as different as possible.

And with this post i present... The Nest

(Small Note* Naga refers to a specific person while naga refers to the race in general.)

The nest is a faction based upon nagas... I tried to really distinguish them from shalassa worshipping kind instead basing them on emotions, A largely unexplored concept. And i present my naga faction, a step since i didn't finish my previous faction.

The Nest...
"Our goal is simple, avenge Naga and smite all those who offend our great mother"

Description
The naga are a group of warrior snakes descending from their mother, Naga. They are moody and swift,a combination almost deadly. They seek to complete their mother's life, Whether it is searching for her lover or Avenging her.

History




origins

The Nest's backstory is more myth than fact and it is not known to this day, but the most widely accepted and thought to be true version is here.

Quote:

A young maiden born to a simple peasant family, Naga enjoyed nature and loved to wander the woods. One day she encountered an young elfish hunter named enderon. she fell head over heels in love and spent days adoring him. Eventually after a time the hunter saw her and fell in love with her aswell. The druids questioned why he has been gone so often. and eventually discovered he was in love with a human. They saw in a vision that her love would eventually cause a great monstrosity to arise. So they began to impose rules to keep the two apart but their love grew ever stronger...

  Eventually they became impatient and ordered a hunter to kill them. The hunter searched for many days and finally found them. at the same time Naga was following enderon and as he was about to tell her how a hunter can hunt without harming the animals. then suddenly a *twang**twang* was heard and he fell down on the ground... dead.
She screamed and ran from the direction of the arrows. fear and shock pulsing through her body. the chase continued until the hunter saw that she ran into a swamp. sure she would die from the terrible swamp gasses he considered her dead. but in the swamp she wept for enderon, and as night fell she slept and a serpent visited her in her dreams. the serpent was enderon and told her he would always be with her. when she woke up she created a mud serpent and started to sob... a witch gathering herbs saw her and took pity. the hag strode over and asked 'why do you cry?' Naga replied 'my love is dead and all i have left is this' at seeing this the hag made her snake live and granted eternal unity for the two. unfortunately the spell had an unintended side effect and as Naga rejoiced the mysterious magic began to take effect and in an hour the two were literally one. with the upper body of a woman and the lower body of a snake. Many years passed and Naga became mother to all the scaled creatures of the swamp. All of the children of naga still to this day look for enderon's body that Naga still missed as a bit of naga is in all of her children even though she has passed away... and so the story of Naga ends.




Characters

Naga - The human daughter raised by Erdan Lightdrinker and Elizabeth dawnheart, her name is a homage to the naga of lore and myth.

Enderon - The Elf Naga fell in love with. He was murdered by his kin to prevent a terrible disaster.

Malode - Naga's first daughter, She met with necromancers and is believed to have convened with Naga. She took it upon herself to follow what she believed Naga wanted.

Sylvia - Malode's granddaughter, She fell from her grandmothers lofty standards of simply searching for Enderon to attacking who she believes was the cause of all the heartbreak Naga endured, in particular the elves of Irollan and the Holy Griffin Empire.


Timeline


932 YSD: Birth of Naga.
957 YSD: Naga Falls in love with Enderon.
958 YSD: Enderon dies, Naga becomes a snake woman. The Nest is born.
1000 YSD: Naga dies, Malode takes over begining the Golden age of the naga.
1013 YSD: Malode 'convenes' with Naga, She begins to make alliances with outsiders such as the elves of Irollan and the Holy Griffin Empire.
1128 YSD: Malode is assasinated by her daughter who wanted the throne. daughter is executed and Sylvia takes over.
1136 YSD: Sylvia declares war upon her former allies.
1212 YSD: The war has ended at a terrible cost to all, The naga have been wiped from the face of Ashan.
All that remains of the naga is their legacy and a lesson to all.

Lineup



(This faction has no casters)

Tier 1 - Hatchling

Hatchlings are the ravenous newborns of the naga. Their ferocious appetites are only bested by their will to battle. Their short orb-like bodies are sturdily built.They possess small stout legs and an elongated tail.

- Abilities -

Serpentine - This creature is part of the naga faction.

Ferocity - This creature is ferocious and cannot withhold itself when attacking, as a result it tires easily. (-5% initiative per attack[permanent])

Tier 1 Upg. - Spotted hatchling

After some time hatchlings grow spots on their back, this is actually due to their body cleansing out toxic chemicals from their body and placing them in sacs located upon their backs. When broken these sacs leak out toxins damaging nearby units.

- Abilities -

Seprentine - This creature is part of the naga faction.

Ferocity - This creature is ferocious and cannot withhold itself when attacking, as a result it tires easily. (-5% initiative per attack[permanent])

Venom sac - This creature has venomous sacs located upon its back, When a creature is killed venom is released damaging surrounding creatures. (around 2 per Spotted hatchling)

Tier 1 Alt. - Whelp

Whelps unlike their spotted kin lack outer sacs for storing toxins and instead have a sac located near their mouths, as a result these creatures can spew out streams of toxins, damaging and poisoning both friend and foe alike.

- Abilities -

Serpentine - This creature is part of the naga faction.

Ferocity - This creature is ferocious and cannot withhold itself when attacking, as a result it tires easily. (-5% initiative per attack[permanent])

Poison Breath - This creature's breath is riddled with toxins. (Firebreath+Poison)


Tier 2 - Ophidian

After maturing for a while Hatchling then undergo several metamorphosis, the byproduct of which is ophidians. Ophidians more or less resemble the ancient naga of lore.

- Abilities -

Serpentine

Slither - Creatures with Slither are unaffected by small or medium obstacles. (1x1 or 1x2)


Tier 2 Upg. - Guardian Loci

Specializing in protecting their kin guardian loci are fierce defenders as well as skilled mages, Their incorporeal form adds to the frustration.

- Abilities -

Incorporeal

Guardian - Whenever an adjacent allied stack would be attacked there is a 50% chance it will strike this stack instead.


Tier 2 Alt. Fen serpent

Fen serpents are ophidians who have degressed to the point that they have almost no human features. Their desire for vengeance and battle causes them to be restrained from attacking allies.

- Abilities -

Slither - Creatures with slither are unaffected by small or medium obstacles. (1x1 or 1x2)

Furor - When retaliating this creature attacks all adjacent stacks.


Tier 3 - Basilisk

Basilisks are the benevolent pets of the naga. They have deadly gazes but their freezes only petrify the body not the soul which is bound to the rocky prison.

Petriying gaze - This creature petrifies 20% of unpetrified enemy stacks upon attacking or retaliation for 3 turns. Petrified creatures cannot attack.


Tier 3 Upg. - Gazetaker

Gazetakers have learned to harness the trapped souls of their petrified foes and use it to replenish their own souls.

- Abilities -

Large

Petrifying gaze - This creature petrifies 20% of unpetrified enemy stacks upon attacking or retaliation for 3 turns. Petrified creatures cannot attack.

Life drain


Tier 3 Alt. - Regulian

Regulians are the most decorated of basilisks, jewels and gold adorns their rough scaly hide. Their ferocity to defend these trasures is vast and few have not regretted attacking one.

Petrifying gaze - This creature petrifies 20% of unpetrified enemy stacks upon attacking or retaliation for 3 turns. Petrified creatures cannot attack.

Furor - When retaliating this creature attacks all adjacent stacks.


Tier 4 - Serpent Fly

Serpent flies are hatchling who have not underwent metamorphosis. Instead they sprout large draconic wings and grow long winding tails. These tails are used to attack foes. Their swiftness is almost unrivaled among the less powerful creatures and they can attack twice in the span it would take on to attack once.

Tier 4 Upg. - Stinglash

Growing further some serpent flies develop multiple stingers upon their tails. These stingers are light but very dangerous. Simply flying about stokes them into a frenzy.

Blitz - When moving this creature damages creatures it flys next to or flies through. (Damage = No of stinglashes*5


Tier 4 Alt. - Couatl

Those serpent flies who have not mutated into stinglashes often develop certain electric qualities that allows them to become conductors.

Double strike

Electric blow - When this creature attacks its foe is bombarded with electric currents, slowing down reactions and purging their bodies of magical residue.(-5% initiative per hit, 30% chance to dispel a spell effect)


Tier 5 - Lernean

Lerneans are a special breed of hydras, adopted from their former masters the naga's had found close connections with these new hydras.

Three headed attack

No retaliation

Tier 5 Upg. - Scylla

Having spent enough times in the rough bogs, Some hydras take a little bit of the stewing murks with them. These lerneans are known as scyllas

- Abilities -

Serpentine

Five headed attack

No retaliation

PoisonBreath - This creature's breath is riddled with toxins (Firebreath+poison)


Tier 5 Alt. - Leviathan

These ancient hydras have lived long enough to call their scales impenetrable. Although their scales deflect most attacks they are vunerable through the gaps between scales. This paired with the fact that in their age they have grown weaker...

- Abilities -

Serpentine

Six headed attack

Invunerable 50% - All damage dealt to this creature is reduced by 50%.


Tier 6 - Nymph

These adult naga have finally matured into their most sophisticated form, although only females are allowed into the ranks of nymphs. Wielding Powerful longbows, these Priestesses of Naga are fearsome foes indeed.

Tier 6 Upg. - Naiad

Nymphs scarred from the brands of initiation are often rejected from this caste. Only those whose skin does not scar or burn from the ritual flames can become naiads. They wield the powers of fire, not just physically however, They also wield it's mentality.

Flame attack - This unit's attack deals fire damage instead of normal damage.


Tier 6 Alt. - Limnade

Unlike their fearsome sisters, the naiads, Limnades are more serene. They bear the marks of fire proudly to show that they are willing to protect instead of destroy. Their kin are much safer surrounded by Limnades than they are Naiads.

Vanguard - While defending all damage that would be dealt to an adjacent creature is dealt to this creature instead.


Tier 7 - Child of Naga

Part of Naga's favored lineage, These are the highest ranking members of naga society. Only the eldest females of this lineage can become Broodmothers. More suited for royalty one would expect them to be weak soldiers, but what their skeptics do not deny is that they make excellent commanders.

Flagbearer - Allied creatures get +1 morale and speed.


Tier 7 Upg. - Naga Incarni

The bodily manifestation of their great mother, Naga incarni have tremendous effects on the morale of their kin. Although not true incarni they do carry naga's wisdom into battle. Sylivia cannot recruit or own these naga.

Incarni - This creature is believed to be an incarni of a greater being, The effects depend on the creature.  In the case of a Naga incarni they grant +2 morale to other allied serpentine units and are immune to mind spells.


Tier 7 Alt. - Naga's Avenger

Taking their love for Naga to a new level these zealous naga Have been known to ovvereact. They believe that only through cleansing this world of mortal races can Naga ever be at peace. They care little for the safety of themselves.

- Abilities -

Serpentine

Vengeance - This creature gets a bonus to damage when an allied stack is killed. (same formula for enraged but affecting minimum and maximum damage instead.

Fury - When an allied stack is destroyed this unit will move to the nearest stack and attack.

Tier 8 - Emotive Manifest

The Manifestation of a Naga's Feelings. Only the most powerful of naga learn how to summon their emotions to help them.

- Abilities -

Abilities and Stats vary, but the Emotive elemental always has Immunity to mind spells

Hero



The Nest hero is the BroodMother.

Racial


The racial ability is Manifestation. A skilled broodmother can manifest her emotions into manifestations, this consumes mana.

Basic Manifestation - The hero can summon Basic manifestations.

Advanced Manifestation - The hero can summon Advanced manifestations. The hero can fully control basic Manifestations.

Expert Manifestation - The hero can summon Expert Manifestations. The hero can fully control advanced Manifestations

Ultimate Manifestation - The hero can fully control all Manifestations

- Perks -

- Mood - Creaures in the heroes army get a slight boost to the stats the current Manifest specializes in.

- Sadism - Dark spells cast on the enemy do not wear off (decay is an exeption).

- Mood swing - During the battle the Emotive may change forms, It cannot change from any form while frenzied.

- Ultimate Perk -- Masquerade -- The hero may disguise her emotions in such a way that Emotives cost no mana.

Each emotive is more powerful depending on what the situation is. Moon weeks, Army size and even the artifacts the hero is wearing affects the Emotive's stats and mana cost.



The three basic emotions are... They are pure emotions and are the easiest to summon.

Elated - This Emotive Manifest's stats lean more toward speed and initiative, This Manifest has immunity to Sorrow, Flying, and Double strike.

Raging - This Emotive Manifest's stats lean more to Attack and Damage, This Manifest has Furor, Cleave and Fierce retaliation.

Independant - This Emotive Manifest's stats lean more to Defense and Health, This Manifest has magicproof 50% and unlimited retaliation.



When combined these emotions can create more devastating complex emotions. They have higher stats than pure emotions but are harder to control.

The three complex emotions are... They are somewhat tainted emotions and keeping them under control can prove difficult at times.

Frenzied - This Emotive is a combination of Elated and Raging. It's stat's lean towards Attack and Initiative, It has Furor, Fierce retaliation, and flying.

Sturdy - This Emotive is a combination of Raging and Independant. It's stat's lean towards Damage and Defense, It has Unlimited Retaliation, Magicproof 25%, and Fierce Retaliation

Valient - This Emotive is a combination of Independant and Elated. It's stat's lean towards Health and Speed, It has Double Strike, Flying and Immune to Sorrow.



The Two expert Emotions are the most difficult to both summon and control.

Serene - This Emotive's Stat's lean towards Defense, Speed, and Health. This Emotive has Passive, MagicProof 25%, and Guardian.

Passive - This creature cannot attack or retaliate.

Absolute Rage - This Emotive's Stat's lean towards Damage and Attack. This Emotive has Fury, Vengeance, Enraged and Frenzy.

Frenzy - When a stack is killed this unit is launched into a frenzy that cannot be dispelled, it is uncontrollable while frenzied.
