Yeah
There are many pararells.

Xel'naga = Titans
Overmid = Sargeras
Zerg = Legion

The demon Fel Hunter even looks a lot like a Zergling, some people are crazy and think Starcraft is Warcraft in the future and in the past it was Starwarscraft

Its not exactly the same though, its better fleshed up in WoW.

But Starcraft 2 will be like Warcraft 3. Adding more races, fleshing up the worlds and lore etc so they can make a Starcraft MMO. Or thats what I think.

Blizzard has said that there new next-gen MMO will be in a whole new universe, but I think they lie.

They also said that they had no current plans for Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 was not in development.

@Xerox: You'll have to commend me for reading such a long text on a subject that I completely hated though

I mean, this discussion made me forget about a test I have tommorow! So basically I traded knowledge in the german language for Warcraft lore!

Arrgh, the shame.

LOTR is one of the best written fantasy books I have ever read.
I reado alot of fantasy books. The story and the details makes LOTR stand out. If the book came out 10 years ago or if it was the first fantasy book, it was well written. The story was great.

Starcraft is older than Xerox is, and yet you can still buy it at any video game store. That's amazing. It also makes me feel old.

On the subject of rating... how do I rate threads? According to the FAQ 5 reddies allow me to rate threads but I have no idea how.

There's a review button at the bottom of the post reply thingy but it doesn't do anything besides refreshing the post reply window and returning me to the thread...

I case you haven't noticed Deathy, that's what I said. I never meant "adult situations" are mandatory ;p
That has absolutely nothing with what I had in mind though... I hate innuendos, I'm tired of them, look what difficulty they pose into expressing yourself without getting into one (not your fault of course, but society's...)

I meant *ahem* "bedtime stories, for adults, not kiddos" (you get the point I hope...?)

Quote:
Characters are certainly not from this side of the world.
Cause Orks are...
They were "exaggerated" for a reason. Everyone had specific attributes, more like a moral story where you have guys called "selfish", "kindness" , "misguided", "tyrant" and stuff like that. LotR is more than "just a story" in case you haven't noticed.

If you want reality, go watch reality shows or read the news, not books or fantasy movies (assuming you watch the movie). LotR is great because it basically conveys many psychological attributes within that you probably don't even discover at first. It's not just a "good story" or "another drama". You don't actually make people wonder about certain things unless you exaggerate it, to activate that part of the brain that has stuff where people take for granted (and don't think much about it) and is usually inactive too. So to "Activate" it in psychological terms, subliminal and deeper meanings are appropiate -- not to make the story too much of an allegory, but yet still have elements in it that are not obvious at first sight (many people take it as "just another story"). This is such an epic blend between the two that's why probably it's "so great".

Here's a random quote/review:
Quote:
The story is that of good against evil, small people changing the world, yet what a world they live in! It is a full and believable world, the people are people, and act as you or I would expect them to act. Yet the complexities are breathtaking, the details of culture and language, the vast scope of history. It is far more than just a story. You aren't just a spectator that wants to find out the "next episode" with disregard to the actual message it has beneath. You are constantly being pushed to imagine, materialize and think, taking a burden of wonder along the way to every detail that is described with great precision.

couldn't have said it better.
But I guess so many people are sheep and fanatics over it; what amazes me is not that you are "non-conformist" (in fact I realize what you say as well and would agree if it weren't for that 'blend' above), but the fact that Xerox or others say "why people love LotR so much? it's such an average story..." which hits the problem directly -- that you mistakenly took it "as just another story".

I will believe you when I read your book, ok?

Until then, you can say that you dislike the book on what grounds ever you find, but saying that Middle-Earth with all the languages and histories, family trees, details of scenery, and above all of these - as consistent as the world we live in - is not hard to do? That is ridiculous.

I personally enjoy seeing the good and evil being turned upside down in fantasy literature. But this was the book that pretty much set forth the fantasy genre. Funnily to me this book is much more a story of friendship and love. It is filled with analogies of reality.

Actually it has been a long time since I read it, might do well to read it again. Loved it ;P

You should read The Last Ringbearer by Kirill Yeskov. It's set in middle earth right after the war of the ring and from the "bad guys" point of view.
