Thats compared to other continents of the world 
I dont know much about Belgium at all but I guess I automatically asumed everything is well because I we in Sweden just lies chilling, watching all wars on TV while we scrap our entire defence so that the Russians finally can capture our nation.
But, I stick with my argument that Europe is the best conitnent to live in in modern times.
It goes like this:
1. Europe.
2. North America.
3. Oceanic.
4. South America.
5. Asia
6. Africa.
7. Antartica (lol)

I'd pick Asia over southamerica and Afric any day of the week.
And I would say something, if Europe wasn't so delightfully fractured (fractured places + knowledge of language = means of staying alive, hahahaha)

In sweden there is one word for continent (kontinent) and one word for world part (världsdel).
In english, Europe is an continent. In Swedish, Eurasia is the continent and Europe is the world part.

By that logic we'd be united with NATO and the UN, which just isn't true... Sure, quid pro quo and all that, but at the end of the day, we're ll very fractured and Europe will neverbe united, as long as they speak over twenty different languages there.

Could someone enlighten me about the European Union? I mean, I know that it's a trade area and a free travel zone (that is, no border control between the countries), but how good/bad is it?

Anyway, there is a European Parliament, but of course the constituing nations of the EU are pretty unwilling to hand over their fate to their European nighbours, so-to-speak, so that parliament doesn't have that much governmental power - which will inevitably change, given time.
The EU is a great place to live on this Earth, that much is for sure, but even within it there are still big differences. It's a bit like the US - with an extremely weak federal part.

The fun thing is that it works. Free travel existed before EU too due the borders, getting work in other country is what has gotten alot easier.
The problem is the way the byråkrati in EU is.

Nah, lots are not in the EU. And we are really fragmented. Island is thinking about joining, here in Norway we got 60% against and 30% for and 10% don't know what side to pick. And lots is not in EU because the don't feel like it. We do however got the EØS-deal, which means we are in some ways part of EU yet we are not.

You were insulting To Americans, its almost funny that some people seem to believe that making remarks against other countries is bad - but you can go ahead and say whatever you'd like about the Americans because that's just fine. (and no, I'm not American, that is not where I'm coming from)
