JRPG's make me want to die a little inside.

The ridiculous looking characters, the whole turn based thing with one guy carrying 10000 potions and another with a sword twice as big as his own body (excluding his hair, which makes the guy from Dragon Ball Z jealous)

The only one that's ever interested me is Guild Wars because I love the setting. The world itself is very nice and immersive.

I have one character with which I have beaten all 3 campaigns and the one expansion, and another character who I think I've beated one or two campaigns with... now I just log on with my main character and occasionally buy stuff.

I love the Hall of Monuments where you can put all your elite items and achievements so that your character when Guild Wars 2 comes out can inherit them. A very good way to sell Guild Wars 2 to alot of Guild Wars players but oh well, I'll still buy it.

I would also probably consider looking at the Warhammer Online one but I'm too poor to afford something like that at the moment and even if I could, I wouldn't want to spend it all on buying the disc let alone subscription fees.

No subscription fees to guild wars is nice so I can log on every year and get my birthday present My first character just got his fourth birthday present (yes I've had the game for four years ) which I opened, and then found out I could have sold it for like 100,000 lol
oh well.

JRPG's, or any RPG in general, isn't what I would call an intense gameplay and strategy game, with a few exceptions like Final Fantasy Tactics. RPG's are mostly about chilling back. The disproportionately powerful characters are cool in anime, but when I play an RPG I agree with TitaniumAlloy: I prefer to play a human being (or some other race ), not a veritable god.

I haven't played WoW, but I played Ultima Online when I was around Xerox's age, and I later played Dark Age of Camelot for awhile, and the reason both of them were so captivating to me was that being in an online world made it feel so lifelike. You aren't the center of attention in a static plot like in an RPG, you're one player in a world of sapient players, just like you.

The grinding of leveling can indeed be boring at times, but the biggest appeal of MMOG's for me is the PvP and guild interaction, which isn't at all tedious.

I have a warrior Kilmo The Big who I've done the most on.

I also have an assassin called Insufficient Gold who I think i've only beaten Cantha on.

1st problem, overused, and stupid (even annoying) feature in most RPGs or MMOs are items and looting, not levelling.

I agree they shouldn't, but there are very few games that I don't get bored of.
Only Homm 3, and a few action games like the God of War series which has an interesting story and intense game play. Also one fps that owns all, no not Call of Duty, not Counter Strike, I talking about Serious Sam. The best games are the ones where your main character is a complete badass.

I like to look at my characters in WoW, I can imagine a background for them, and I make some of them based on other famous characters. But actually role playing with them is extreamly boring, grinding is also boring, and sometimes superior items looks like snow(in which case I stick to the weaker item usually).
The lore of Warcraft is also a good one, I enjoyed playing W3, but now that's just boring too.
In WoW I can interact with the lore, and that's great, but once I've seen it, it's just another boring thing.

There are many games which are great but has no replay value, and WoW is one of them, even though you can't really "finish" it.

Yeah, when I think of my characters I can see some background but I do not play on an RP server, though I have some low levels characters on some. I can see my troll hunter growing up on the Darkspear Isles untill they were destroyed and the Horde rescued his people and now he is very loyal to Thrall.
Or my inactive Blood Elf priests thoughts how he turned to the Light after the Scourge basically devastated his homeland and killed his family.

That most MMOs cant be finished can both be good and bad. If it has a finish, then it is not a MMO. Then it is basically a multi-player RPG. Games such as WoW does cause addiction but if you are a parent then there is parental control, to limit your childs game time (fortunaly, im spoiled and my parents are nice ;P).

Still, personally I think it is boring when there comes an end. I was so disappointed in Fable 2 because when you had completed the game 5 hours later (yes, its a really short game) then there is nothing more to do and you have to repeat everything again.

IMO the most important component in any RPG/MMO are the battles, if they aren't fun, interesting and different from each other (that every battle isn't solved in the same way), there's no reason to play the RPG.

And to be honest with you, the battles in WoW seems really boring. Ofc I haven't played it myself, and I've only watched my friends playing it a few times, but from what I've seen it's just spamming a key or two, then moving to the next creep, and then spam the same keys again.

Edna the monsters you usually see in wow is yes, just killed in the same way.
Once you get to endgame content in level 80, there starts to be all kind of tactics, which you need to know in order to be able to īdo it.
Some bosses strategies are so hard that if 1 person falls then you cant do it.

Yeah as he said, you need extreamly precise teamwork on hihgh level raids, and the boses does many kind of things, you have to do many moves and such, and PvP is another kind of fight where you have to jump around always.

The most important element to rpgs are the role playing, true generally the thing you do most of the times is fighting, but once you reached max level you won't be fighting against any nameless common monsters, only in instances but those are extreamly strong too.
Anyway, role playing games are meant to put you in a role, so that's the most important thing. I don't feel like I'm a dwarf, but I do think it's cool to have one as a character, cause you won't see actions games such as (again)God of War or Prince of Persia with a dwarf character.
I like the variety of how many ways there is to play it. There are 10 classes, each with 3 ways to play it, and there are also 10 races with different racial skills(though those doesn't count as much), you can imagine hoe many possibilities this means.

Yeah, its true. For instance, when im doing daily quests on my Hunter I fire off 3 shots and boom the creep/mob is dead. But I like fast paced combat and it makes all those "Kill 15 Mammoth Babies" much faster

The real tactics, as said before, comes at the end-game and in the raids where you will need to focus once new content is released. The majority of all WoW raiding guilds have not come very far into the new raid dungeon Ulduar yet. Ulduar was released about a month ago and the next content patch (Call of the Crusade) will be on the test server next week already.

edit: Recently I begun to watch some Warcraft machinimia. This movie is great and you might need to watch it two times

http://warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=91995

You do absolutluy not need to like WoW or anything like that if I watch it. I didnt understand anything the first time O.o
