And are there even dolphins that nothernly?
Anyway, they might do hunting like that, but I doubt they do it "just for tradition" - it would probably be a pretty important source of meat for them.

I didnt even know there were dolphns up there, thought you sometimes hear some lost dolphin getting into the Baltic Sea (and Giant Squids even!).
The closest thing to a dolphin would be the Beluga or Narwhal I guess.
But yes, the brutally slaugther on Iceland and Faraoe Islands (which is supported by Denmark) must stop or there should be more modern methods.
edit; Orginally, I meant to say that the closest thing to a dolphin would be a "Tumlare" however, I did not know the english name and thought a "Tumlare" was the name thing as a Beluga.
The supposed dolphin is likely a whale speices called the "Porpoise". You can argue that Dolphins in one away are whales aswell and that they are dolphines.
Sceintfically, its classified as a Whale though.

I agree with Alci. This "barbarism" must be a way to get meat.
Xerox: not only dolphins and squids appear in the Baltic. Few species of sharks and even a swordfish also find their way there every now and then. One swordfish was caught near Palanga in 1934, and it's replica is held at T. Ivanauskas' Zoological museum at Kaunas, for everyone to see

I don't get what the issue is. You catch animals and kill them. That's where meat comes from.
If they're killing them in large enough numbers to threaten local extinction, then they should tone it down so the animals keep breeding enough.

and meat comes from bred animals in the industry these days (not saying I agree with that, just saying your argument is worthless).

I seriously don't know what else I'm supposed to call it. Oh no, the water is red. It's almost as if whenever you shoot something in the water, blood will come out.
As to the industry comment: They take dolphins and whales from the giant dolphin and whale aquariums, right?
What's that have to do with anything at all anyway? What's it matter if you kill it in the wild or in a prison.

It's a ritual hunt of some sort actually. Each year muslims slaughter thousands of cows/goats/sheep as a part of a religious celebration and nobody cares a crap about that.

So basically this is the same thing as the millions of other animals that are slaughtered every single day. Okay.
If makes you feel any better, the heroic Dannish government in all it's motherly glory stepped in and said you're not allowed to eat whale more than once every two weeks because there's unhealthy things in it. So more of the meat will be thrown out instead of the serial killers having the chance to eat their ill-gotten meat.

How many of you guys are vegetarians? If you eat meat, animals get killed, simple as that. Many people would argue that killing animals in the wild is for less cruel than the conditions animals live in when they are bred for that purpose.
The truth is, people like to eat meat, but they don't want to see the reality of where it comes from.

This is not at all different from the topic of animal slaughter in general. It's not as if those Dannish hunters are meaninglessly torturing the animals. They net them off and draw them to the shore, and then they go out and kill them. Obviously there's a difference in tactics from shooting a deer in the woods, but they are both the exact same principle.
However, some guy takes photographs of it and posts them on the internet, and now I'm suppose to get drug around in the dirt being pulled by the chain of my own emotions while bawling about how cruel it is? Sorry, but it's not happening.
The only thing that moderately bothers me is how a good amount of the meat is left to waste. So if anything, this is a lesson on the proper use of natural resources.
@ the earlier comment on genocide: this word is one of the most inappropriately overused words in today's age. Genocide is the systematic annihilation of a people (or in this case, species). So unless the Dannish build a fleet of high-tech whaling ships and go across the globe killing every whale they detect, then this is not genocide even if you do think they should have the same legal rights as humans.

Well with 6 billion resources on this planet I'm sure one won't be missed, hence if you get eaten by a shark, not such a big loss. Actually you feed the shark. I mean you're a resource.

You must be friggin kidding me.
Does that picture look like HUNTING to you? As in, a single bear down or something?
It's MASSACRE and no amount of word babbling is gonna cut it.
And I think it's kinda systematic. They didn't kill all living things in the water after all, which would be extermination (even worse). They systematically picked dolphins and whales.

Yes, if you mean the wine as Christs blood... and nothing more...
On the topic... lots of blood really... As I know there is simeler ritual in Turckey, they are killing rams every year, not only with knifes but also with ropes and stones. In Istambul they are cutting the animal's head and leave the blood to flow into the Bosphorus, every year it turns into a river of blood... and it's for a tradition there, they are buying the rams only for this special day... Thats what I call barbaric...
