((Emerald Island, at the inn. 12:20 AM.))

“Very well then lads, follow me,” the innkeeper waves Glenn and Mark into the kitchen. He hands Mark a rag and gives brief instructions for waiting on the tables before dismissing him and calling in one of his “girls” for her break, and then grabs a rather large basket and hands it to Glenn.

“Take this down to the town hall; just follow the road down the right bend, and you’ll find it at the very end, can’t miss the thing. Tell the man at the door you’re bringin’ His Grace’s meal from me inn, and he should take it from there. When you get back, the pots are over there,” he nods towards the offending cookware. “Make sure you hang the brush up when you’re done. Well, off you go then!”

((Emerald Island, at the general store. 12:20 AM.))

((I’m assuming Kamahl and Rikudo Sennin are headed to the general store more or less together—inform me if this is not the case.))

The pair of you arrive at the general store a short time later. This end of town is obviously the business district; the buildings are larger and slightly more impressive than the small homes farther down the street. It’s also very quiet in this part of town with the noise of the inn muffled by distance and several buildings, and no equivalent activity nearby.

((Emerald Island, back at the campfire. 12:14 AM.))

After bidding Glenn farewell and watching several of the others move off into the darkness, Brent turns to Jack.

“So…if you don’t mind telling me, milady, what’s a group like yours doing out on Emerald Island if you weren’t here for the scavenger hunt?”

“Yes, do tell!” the man who spotted Jack and Glenn originally adds cheerfully. “Chasing pirates maybe? Searching for old ruins? Looking for fae?”

“Are you here on Guild business, perhaps?” Brent asks curiously. It’s becoming obvious the adventurers around the campfire notice something is…different…about your group, and they’re keen to find out what.

"Milady?" Jack seems confused.  "Ah, um yes.  Well I was out on the Black Pearl..and then I wasn't.  Seem to have missed a few things in between.  For a nip I'll regile you with a few tales that will curl your toes." He was always looking for the next drink, and he was smart enough to know that he didn't want it known that he was a guy trapped in a females body.

Glenn sees the side of the basket, and realizes the roles should have been put in reverse. He frowned a bit, but took the basket in hands. With all his will, he picked up the basket, and started to the town hall. It was pretty difficult, but it gave him reason for his slightly odd walking.

As he moved along, he got a little more better, and picked up on his speed. Though, he was still slowed down by having his vision block by the thing he carried.

Glenn reaches the town hall sooner than he expected he would. He almost stumbles up to the doorman as his foot gets caught on a step. He recovers, and steps up to the man with the food.

"Hello, sir. The innkeeper sends this basket of food for His Grace."

((Emerald Island, back at the campfire. 12:16 AM.))

“Oh, we love a good story!” says the spotter before his companions can object. The waterskin has been making the rounds while the conversation shifts; he hands it to Jack and motions for her (err, him?) to sit. A cautious sniff reveals it to contain watered down wine.

Meanwhile, Abbadon notices a handful of strange lights off in the west.

((Emerald Island, at the village hall. 12:25 AM.))

The man who opens the door is a snooty-looking fellow in livery with a pinched expression. He actually looks around at human height for a moment before his gaze drops down to Glenn.

“Oh, a halfling. Give it here then,” the man takes the basket and shuts the door in your face.

There is a bit of murmuring and a sharp comment behind the door before it opens again; this time the person opening it is a dark-complexioned bald fellow wearing simple robes.

“Here, my boy; for your trouble,” he tells you kindly, handing you a small cloth bag. It jingles a little as he passes it off. “Tell your master His Grace thanks him for his service. Good evening to you.”

And someone farther in chooses just that moment to announce loudly that they ‘can’t wait to be done with these wretched, dusty peasants’ before the door closes again.

"What in the..?"- Abbadon looked at the weird lights, and decided to take a closer look at them. He was, for the first time in his life, feeling unsecure. But after a quick thought he understood that his small stature was a good thing. He could pass through some areas unnoticed, and maybe find something valuable to take for himself.

Glenn turns back to head to the inn again. He wonders what peasants are wanted to done with. The contestants? Those of this small village? Or perhaps those that are under the castle that is to be awarded? If that was the case, what was so bad with the peasants? What was so bad with ruling over them? Was there something wrong with the kingdom? If there was a problem, it would explain why there is a castle up as the prize. Still, it would be a great task to turn such a place into a thriving realm of power.

Glenn walks into the inn, and walks to the innkeeper.

"I was told to tell you His Grace appreciates your services. I was given this sack as payment. I shall return to work."

Glenn sets the sack on a stool, and heads to do the dishes.

Meanwhile, Mark had worked his ass off trying to earn his keep. He had attempted to listen in on the conversations to those he was serving on the way thou.
"Blah!" Mark thought "This is alot harder in this slow clumsy dwarf body than in it is in my regular one!" Mark nodded to himself as he remembered all the other times he have had to work in a tavern or inn so that he might get one night sleep. He sighed "Winning battles is so much easier than this work..."

((Emerald Island, approaching the swamp. 12:20 AM.))

Abbadon approaches the lights; on closer inspection they appear to be alive, as they dance in midair and spin around each other even with no wind. One of them breaks off from the others and floats around his head for a bit, harmlessly at first—and then it throws a tiny bolt of energy at his face.

((Roll = 79))

Fortunately his reflexes even in this new body are sufficient to let him duck out of the way before the bolt can hit. The little light makes an ascending tone like ‘whoops!’ and veers off into the swamp, emitting a soft ringing sound that must be laughter.

((Emerald Island, at the inn. 12:30 AM.))

“No lad, keep that with you,” the innkeeper tells Glenn, pressing the gold back into his hands. “His Grace had his meals arranged in advance; that’s yours an’ you don’t want someone walking off with it.”

He mutters something under his breath that sounds like ‘probably how the lad ended up broke in the first place’ and goes back out of the main room to check on Mark.

The aforementioned dwarf has been having a busy time of it.

The inn’s common room is packed; he has to watch his step as feet and legs are everywhere and most of their owners aren’t terribly sober. That being the case, however, many of them are also quite talkative and none too discreet.

Most of it is useless information, people shouting for drinks, bragging of past exploits or chattering of other useless things. Other tidbits are repeated so often and in so many variations they may as well be useless, but there is some new data to be gleaned from the racket…

“Hey you there! More drink an’ make it snappy!”

“I heard Filiant and his group haven’t brought in their red potion yet, can you believe it?”

“Heh, good luck finding one of those now—every Widowsweep bush on the island will have been picked clean…”

“…heard one of the villagers lost their kid today; little tyke went to play by the swamp and vanished. Poor lass…”

“Oy! Me cup’s empty!”

“…how they expec’ us t’ fin’ a bloody el-vin longbow in t’ middle o’ nowhere’s beyon’ me. *hic* If there’s one ‘ole bow ‘n this blasted bloody islan’ it’s prob’bly alrrready in the Judge’s hands. *hic*”

“Nah-ah! I hear’ there wazis one group who…who…*hic*…”

“…found a very nice chalice in those old temple ruins. Pity we had to turn it in, really; it was a very handsome cup, my father collects those you know…”

On the bright side, in the process of serving drinks he’s acquired 8 gold pieces’ worth in tips.

“Oh, of course,” Brent replies. “The inn is down that way; follow the road east, and turn right. It’s right next to the docks; you probably passed by it when you got here.” Jack’s storytelling seems to have put the native adventurers’ minds at ease, as they are no longer giving the pirate suspicious looks. “For the contest you’ll want the town hall; follow the same road but turn left instead, it’s at the very end. Ask for Judge Thomas.” Brent leans back, looking thoughtful. “I’d wait until morning if I were you though.”

“His Grace gets very cranky,” the spotter snickers in agreement.

“And don’t expect to win because you’re off to a late start,” Jarin adds with a sharp smirk.

“Yes, there is that,” Brent agrees sheepishly. “Well, good luck milady!”

“Maybe we’ll see you again some time!” the spotter calls after you.

At first Abbadon wanted to fire from the Talon of Horus at the fleeing light, but soon remembered that he doesn't have it here. The sorcery that brought him here, only transfered his soul and mind. The light that tried to fry him ran away laughing. This was a huge blow on his ego, and Abbadon wouldn't allow this to remain. He followed the light into the marsh.

After a few minutes of pounding on the door it opens, revealing a cranky looking older man in a nightcap.

“What do you want?” he asks.

((Emerald Island, in the swamp. 12:35 AM.))

Abbadon trudges through the swamp after the glowing light, slowed a bit by the thick mud. Most of the rest scattered when the first one attacked him, and are only visible as cautious little pinpricks showing through the trees now and then.

The light he chases dances ahead of him, roughly at eye level, tauntingly back and forth just out of reach. At last it comes to the ruins of an old tower and seems to decide he isn’t going to give up. It flies at Abbadon suddenly, throwing another miniature energy bolt.

((Roll = 33 – hit!))

It tags Abbadon on the shoulder, leaving behind an odd tingling sensation.

((Take 2 damage. Abbadon’s HP: 30/32))

((Emerald Island, at the inn. 12:57 AM.))

A little less than an hour of scrubbing dishes and waiting tables later, the pots are clean and the inn’s regular staff is refreshed and back on the job. It’s also significantly less crowded as most of the customers have wandered off to bed. The innkeeper calls Mark and Glenn away from their tasks with a smile.

“You did good lads; here,” he gives each of them a handful of coin. “There’ll be breakfast waitin’ for you in the morning. In the mean time, I’ll show you to your room.”

He leads the two to a room on the ground floor. It isn’t large, but it seems to be clean and in good repair.

Do you have any idea what time it is?” the old man demands crossly, scowling. But apparently the idea of a sale is enough to keep him out of bed, because he grumbles “come on in” and waves the pair through the door.

The inside of the shop is dark and cramped. The old man lights a tallow dip and with the resulting flame shelves of oddments are illuminated, as well as strange herbs hanging from the ceiling.

With a resigned sigh, the old man asks, “What was it you were looking for?”

Glenn starts removing his new belongings, preparing for bed. He sorts through them, wondering what items this new body of him actually possesses. The club is kind of an odd choice of weapon for him, but he sees no other. What is this root thing doing here? There must be some reason to its being kept, so he moves it aside, for now. The tome looks a little interesting. He may have to check it out after he gets his rest. He sets it aside, and gets into bed, going to sleep pretty rapidly.
