AI turns taking too long

So, it's been few months now, I'm wondering, has there been a fix for my issue from HELP TOPIC (which is broken now so I'm posting it here)

Quote:
Hey, I have the same problem as Nekron on page 26.
I'm playing Hammer of Fate, when I create randomly generated map (1on1), after a while, one or two enemy heroes start lagging extremely badly, this happens mainly later in the game when they accumulate large amount of armies. When I kill him everything goes back to normal, but it's frustrating as sometimes it takes time to find that hero and turns can take 5-10 minutes(!!!).

Is there any solution to this? I don't think it's my PC, it's 4ghz core i7, 12gb ddr3 and GTX295.

The game is completely unplayable for me, since I only play random generated maps vs AI.
I've been told to play maps made by other players, but those maps become boring after I play them once.
Are developers completely ignoring a very important & broken part of their game?
Heroes 3 doesn't have this issue, but I'm sick of playing Heroes 3.

Are you actually playing Hammers of Fate? What patch are you on for whatever game version you have? What are you computer specs?

Hammers of Fate, patch 2.1

Core i7 4.0 ghz
12gb ddr3
GTX295
OCZ Vertex SSD

Should be more than enough to make the game smooth. The game is in fact smooth, it's just AI turns which take a very very long time on a random generated maps.

lmao.  Yeah nice system.  The SSD is good?

Ok so it is a random map...sorry if I missed it, what is the size of the map?

There is a way to force ai turns faster by changing the config files but there were some problems.  I can't remember the details because it was long ago.

It depends, obviously, on the number of AI-players and how long you've been playing. After a while the AI has more and more things to manage, so their turns take longer.

It's just lag, really bad PC lag. The game works perfectly fine when I'm playing, and at the start of each game, and 5 minutes into game some minor AI lag on his turn starts. About 30-45 minutes into game, the lag becomes unbearable. AI turn is like, 15-20 second freeze, then works for about a 1-4 seconds, then freezes again for 15-20 seconds, and so on.

1 computer player only, tried all from impossible to huge and normal sized ones (not the small ones since I hate small maps).

It aint my PC being bad, it's something else, that monster lag happens ONLY when AI is playing. If it was just smooth while he's playing, it would be much faster.

Oh to rule out silly stuff, you have AI movement speed set to max in game options?  This issue is a pain of poor coding.

Yes I do, in fact, I always had it on max. I'll set it to lower and try again. Cheers, hope that's the issue

By the way, no one else here experiencing extreme AI lag on large random maps? It's not a common issue?

No, it didn't solve the issue, I never tried creating new map, just loaded old one, but still, I'm not sure it will work

No one else with this AI issue on random generated maps in Tribes of the East?

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Seriously, AI is known to get stuck on bigger maps with multiple paths. One of the most important issue mapmaker has to face is to make it work nicely. Unfortunatelly game creators failed to optimize AI processing time We might still wait to fully enjoy the potential of H5.

...But if you still have problems on your i7 4Ghz (just noticed it), that sounds pretty strange. Turns may not pass immediatelly, but still they should run two-three times faster than on my gear.

You may try maps with different templates (minimizing the number of possible paths between zones), so just throw away Diamond and Lethos and turn to Tapani's RMG or try some custom map.

Hmm, I'm not using any templates, I have no options for that. I just installed the game, patched and started playing random map.
I'll try to look up that "Tapani's RMG".

But random maps generator is based on templates. I don't remember anyone complaining about default ones (apart from they are sucky, ofc).

Do you have instant travel disabled? having it enabled can add into pathfinding problems for ai Which means longer turns.

I have no option to disable instant travel. But it's not really longer turns, just some screen freezes at start when AI is playing, and then they become more and more frequent until it's unbearable and take up to 5 minutes to complete.

BTW one thing I think I forgot to mention, is that I'm playing Tribes of the East patch 3.1 not Hammer of Fate like I just quoted in old post.

the best solution I know to reduce time for AI is changed its during time limit into config file from the user profile folder.

look for a file named « user_a2.cfg »

open it and search « setvar ai_time_limit = » to change the value

I think the initial value is 180000 and that is maximum in second.

I changed it for 3600 and AI is seriously faster.

Nope, doesn't help.
It's not really AI being slow, it's my computer lagging a lot when AI is taking his turn.

try this. remove instant travel might help.

Create a random map in the map editor and ban the spell Instant travel.

Load the map ingame and give it a shot.

It may help.

what you're meaning?, Heroes V always lags if full screen option is checked....
especially while AI turns and if you click on window button by wanting to get out of it to run other programs.

at worst to make a test,
you can go to options menu to uncheck full screen option and the other one below.
then make the AI turns...
