I do like the race of elven creatures idea, possibly, as I suggested, the progenitors, or something like that, an ancient race that started many civilisations off "chariot of the gods" style, and now seem them as a threat to their own existances and want to wipe them out.

hmmm I'll give it a thought, thanks for the suggestion. Seems to me a bit like the Antiqa (or how were they called?) from Stargate...

Quote:
Mecha: a giant robot with a human pilot inside. Gundam mobile suits, Evangelions, and so on are all examples of mecha. Mecha tend to be huge, and use both close combat and heavy audeance for their combat. these can be transformable into other forms, or not.

I definitely had in mind to use something like that. Though not sure if for the Terran Alliance or the Merchant union (I mean that's typical for them, not fighting with their own strength but hiding in a big bad robot )

Quote:
Tripods: a alien space-craft with three legs (usually tentacular in structure), as with War of the worlds, etc. they are often incredibly powerful. often with an alien pilot.

Could use that.

the Neitzcheans seem like the kind of people who worship war gods and do everything in they're glory, rather than what benefits them. They would retard their technological development because it has in some text of theirs "By bullet and by sword".

YES! and NO!!! it's more like they worship themselves, or their leaders, as war gods. Nietzsches Ethics and view of the world propose the idea of "lambs and brids of prey": The birds of prey have the strength, and with it the right to kill and eat any lamb they want, the lambs are weak, and have to bow to the Birds power...the Nietzscheans feel THEY are the birds of prey...and everyone else lambs, though on a higher perspective^^
And 'though they originally were as intelligent as strong, for centuries now, they have mainly chosen for strength and thas has, as I mentioned, broke up with the original idea of a race both superior in strength and brainpower, to one that wants to be ultimate in strength. Except of worshipping, as mentioned, their leaders (and ancestors!!!), they are more atheistic...

the convent of the machines, I thought would be, as i said, very sleek in construction. I-robot style robots, rather than the clunk and clang of machines, you have the gentle hum of computers, the clean, sleek, minimalist design, as computers have no concept of art, really. they might have museum worlds, where technology has been catalogued and stored for future research. they have an almost brainiac modus operandi, from what I read, where they want to fulfill their function, and catalogue all data in the universe.

Very good comment! Yeah, I originally thought  of a more clunky version, but your idea fits perfect to the thought of technological embetterment and functionality!

Quote:
of course, as long as you do include big, explody mega weapons.

I will!
There has to be an aquivalent to "Armageddon" spell don't it?

yeah, or the revenants from mass effect, or the Vsari from UAW. it would be quite fun to include primal images, like eyes and hands, into their vechiles and equipment.

I am more inclind to put it in the Terran alliance than the merchant's union, becuase it's a very military peice of hardware. however, a perversion, a less standarised version of it could pop up in the merchant union list as "nicked" or "pirated"

maybe they are clones, and they worship the original one as well as their leaders.
as I have said in the edit, maybe the idea that they are genetic pirates crops up, in order to prevent their whole notion of being from collapsing.

If you want, create the faction and I'll include it in the post

That could also be an idea! or perhaps the Merchant hero sits in such a vehicle...one with VERY heavy armor XD

Them being all offspring of one person would be too close to the original Nietzscheans for me (which are all heir to one person, Drago Musevini, the first Nietzschean, created by his father a scientist, from his own dna and that of (SPOILER WARNING DON'T read the following name if you want to watch the whole series and get surprised in the 5th season ) Andromeda pilot Rebecca valentine (Yes both Drago's father and "mother" are human). So no, they're not really clones in my concept. It's more like a self-chosen evolution, over some hundreds and thousands of years...and now, they ARE quite diverse and most would not add "weak" human dna to their superior one...and YES this causes problems, but slowly...the militarization is a symptom for that.

EDIT: As for the worshipping thing, but yes, they worship their ancestors highly...and of course Friedrich Nietzsche as well, the "prophet" who has "foreseen" the "arrival" of the "superman" or super-human race("Übermensch" is Nietzsches original, German term) - which the Nietzscheans think they themselves are...

EDIT 2: Anotehr idea for your mega weapons: They could be launched from spaceship in the planet orbit...yet that woulod more be background than actually changing the game mechanics^^

EDIT 3: There WILL be orbital weapons! Added a part about siege weapons.

the progenitors

the progenitors are the first civilised space-faring empire in the galaxy, and are often seen as ancient gods by many races. having seen these races grow, and even outstrip them when it comes to technology in some cases, the progenitors are bent on their competitions extinction.

ground troops
1.Sentinel
2.Avenger
3.Celestial
4.Eradicator
5.Converter
6.Chariot
7.Deus

space troops
1. Thunderbolt
2. Seraphim
3. Shrine
4. Helios
5. Temple
6. Pantheon
7. Apocalypse

I'm a little unsure of Space troops, how big are they? are they normal sized in space suits, or ships?

Seems a good start

Space troops, as I mentioned, are ships, for the space armies are fleets.

EDIT: added some basic ground skills

that was never my intention...

also, J, what about having the ground level7 as a space unit, like level 2, just to give a sense of the scale that been built upon this.

I like this idea!  Also, there should be a way (at high levels) to call in space faring units to blast your enemies out of the water.

Nice idea. But weird. Let's try the latter, shall we?

Spin-off all-right. More like, spin yourself non-stop on a fixed bar stool until, your head starts whirling about and, totally losing your senses of balance. Puking, should be the next reaction of your stomach's ability to keep everything in(little joke on the side, sorry).

It should be like in HoMM5 + tech. development past level 7 creature dwellings and, transforming the blacksmith in a thorough research lab. for way more advancements in troops equipment. The shipyard should be transformed into an airport take-off/landing strip for flying, mechanical vehicle for sky travel and, later on, upgrade it to space-faring launching pad for the future spaceships.

So, at the start of each game, underground, overground only. Then, underground, overground + Sky(flight). Much later on, underground, overground, sky + Space(ability to go out into space and, reach other planets for settling down as a very advanced civilization-just like MoO2).

Now, the trick would be to create a star chart and, 3 dimensional battlefield in space. Now, that could be reserved for the first expansion as to, the original game would have only the next level of victory condition over the other faction within this, currently played, game. Which is, if you reach such a level of technological advancement, you simply are, given, overwhelming victory over the rest of your opponents(just like getting the grail, in the current games of today and all the way back to the 20th century-mid.1990's). As for the second expansion, finding out that you are no longer the only faction in this galaxy to be space-faring, you find yourself engaged in a full-scale galactic war of absolute dominance over anyone. The game finds itself at an absolute end of any possible might and magic story telling.

Modding, will become the only, available, solution to any improvements to such game. The next step? Dunno. The evolution of living beings of flesh and blood into machine like intelligent creatures? Maybe.
