I'm thinking about joining in on this. Like baklava, I am happy this will have no player-controlled NPC's. I just have to create the character. Trying to think of what this character can do. We seem to be going for reasonably high-powered characters, yes? Or just moderate?

Well, that is up to you. I'd say that for melee fighters, War-overlord's character is the limit. Mages can actually be stronger than the melee fighetrs, but they're much frailer.
You're at liberty to be very ineffectual, though!
Also, baklava, you're in.

I might join just to be able to follow Quib's adventures from up close.
Now as for a character... I'm drawing blank for now. I think I'll wait for Alkar to present his and then see with what kind of profession that leaves me.

Kind of rushed the background after a while. It'll do though.
Character sheet:
Name: Felicia
Age: 15
Race: Human
Profession: Craftswoman of shields and small weapons.
Appearance: This + 5'; blue eyes; fairly-strong build; two noticeable scars: first down the left side of her nose, the second across the back of her neck
Background: Daughter of a blacksmith father, and a sorceress mother. Through life, she took interest in both aspects of her parents' lives. She learned to hone her inner magics, and work with her father's tools. To that, she added to her training the ability to fight with some of the weapons they had created; weapons, and shields. Shields were the item of choice for her to use as weaponry. All other weapons seemed to eventually fly from her hands. Her father, as well her mother, thought it odd, but she seemed to do pretty well, smashing and bashing the thing around. Neither were sure why, magic or skill, but they were happy for her nevertheless.
They kept on training her as they had been doing, until three months after her 13th birthday, both her parents went missing after they had gone to a nearby town, in search of something she was never made known to. Soon after, she was driven out of her home by some nobleman, who used some crazy laws she wasn't able to understand. The streets were too harsh, now that she was left with nothing but the clothes on her back. Her pleasant life had now crumbled to the sewers. No! She had to do something. Here, however, was not the place to begin. She had to go elsewhere. She had heard of a place fairly far away, and out of the way, she figured she could go there, and start building back up, and figure out what had happened.
Leaving right then, she made her way to this small village. The journey was a little frightening, at times, but nothing too difficult in the end. Upon arrival, she started earning bits of coin and food, working at the inn. She eventually earned enough to start working at a local abandoned smithy, which had seen years of only minor use. There hadn't been too much need for it, outside of the forest's dwellers.
Now, it has only been a small duration of time, but her work with the smithy has been fruitful enough, and her other areas of skills are in need of some more work. She was sitting in the inn, conversing with a new friend of hers, getting to know about the events of the night before.
Skills: Spells focusing on self-, and weapon-alterations. Uses a shield to attack, with the occasional off-hand throw. Craft and repair of shields and small weapons.
Possessions: Large metal shield, throwing knives, throwing axe, leather armor, bedroll, basic blacksmith tools

Question: is this going to follow some strict DnD-like rules or is this mostly free-form? I'm considering making some kind of acrobat/performer and I don't want to think of his actions in terms of skills/spells.

Name: Atletino (real name unknown)
Age: 21
Race: Human
Profession: Acrobat
Appearance: Incredibly thin, to a point where he almost looks like a skeleton wrapped in skin. This is also magnified by the fact that he only wears shorts and most of his body is visible to all. Has short dark hear, small deeply sunken brown eyes and a long beak-like nose. It's quite hard to determine his height as it seems he never stands up straight, but he seems to be of average height more or less. His legs and hands look a bit too long for his body.
Background: Without any solid memories of his mother and father (or his actual name) as far as he's concerned Atletino's life begins in a traveling circus where he performed as an acrobat. None of the other performers seemed to know when and how Atletino joined the circus. The only man who could have known that was the ringmaster, but he didn't see fit to tell him that. In fact, the only thing that the ringmaster saw fit to tell to Atletino was: "Get in the ring or I'll beat so hard you won't be able to stand for a week!" Atletino's life was rather uneventful. He traveled with the circus, mostly in a cage, and performed wherever they stopped showing off his natural acrobatic abilities which improved greatly after years and years of practice. Over the time he even learned the basics of some other performance skills from his companions. The he most enjoyed was music, particularly the flute.
One time when the circus was passing through a forest they were attacked by bandits. Some of the cages got opened during the fighting and Atletino escaped in the midst of chaos grabbing with him his favorite flute. After a lot of hard days of traveling through the forest which consisted mostly of hiding on the trees from anything that made noise, Atletino finally got to a small village where he made his living as a performer in the local inn.
Skills: Atletino's main skill is his inhuman dexterity and flexibility. He also has some knowledge of playing musical instruments, out of which the flute is his favorite. Other than that he has basic knowledge of different kinds of acts most suited from a good party performance.
Possessions: Small shorts and a flute.

Name: Ebious fon Drankstein
Age: 24
Race: Human
Profession: Noble, Slayer, Fencer, Solider
Appearance: Average looks, but with a minor touch of makeup and no scars. Also got properly cut hair. Got several small braids tied up with a light blue material.
Wears a a large marinegreen ribbon over a white knit shirt under a jacket in the same color as the ribbon, and the pants is made of marinegreen soft leather. A wallet is done in the losely tied style, with a yellow piece of string hanging in the left hip.
Wears a armband with the familiy insigna on: A halbard in blue on marinegreen background.
The armor set is a properly strapped steel mail with padding under to absorb shock damage, which has suffered some damage and repair before. Got a bird beak helmet.
Background:The Drankstein familiy, a familiy consumed in its own tradition: Monster slaying. The tradition are to send out the entre line of children, and whoever claims the greatest slaying or is recognized the superior slayer. Somehow there was always a heir to take the position of lord, the blood has never ran dry. It might been that there was always in recorded history always a slayer declared that has kept the tradition strong.
While other noble familes settles for the first born to have heritage, to take pride in fencing and the fine art of proper backstabbing, the Drankstein settles for the ultimate hunting. There has even been stories of succesful dragonhunts, and usually whoever held the title of lord resigns when a proper sucessor comes back home with fame so they could get back out into the wilderness and to the hunting. There are even stories of some of the earlier lords joining the army in wartime because the wilderness was too hunted for their taste.
Ebious has been trained since birth along with his brothers and sisters, and truely enjoy the hunt. He was finally allowed to leave the manison and the training at a age of 16, and since then he has been slaying monsters weither for gold or pleasure alike.
And he was in the best of luck of being in the village when the Nightstalker struck it great claws, if it truely was that great it would be the battle of the century. The pray of the century, to be able to fight such a magnificant being!
Slaying it would result in a complete and utter victory, when the population of mighty mythical creatures was so low as it was.
Skills: Merchantile, several fencing lessons, arms training, minor infantry training.
Possesions: Plate armor(steel), padding, beak helmet(steel), a small amount of coinage worth a trivial sum of money, 2 servants, 1 mighty halbard which sole enchantment is to regerate itself over time(removes dents, make the blade sharp, etc), 1 normal flanged mace, 1 finely decorated steel dagger used for eating, armband, and misc items.
Acceptable? 100% human armed with polearm.

Ohh do not worry yourself Dagoth. Once I have made my assasin/buglar/smugler/scoundrel/murderer/general criminal I will be joining as well...well, after I've made him and after my exams of course.
