I see no problem with the square grid at all. Yes it's non-canonical and less classy, but is much more convenient for the AI to use, since mathematically it could be represented as a matrix.

So if the devs decided to keep the square grid, they had a reason to.

I'm 100% sure that no petition or poll can revert this decision back.

This thread reminds me one of the many butthurt threads on Nival forums when the square grid was first announced. Funny but the hex to square transition never did any harm to the gameplay, unlike certain other changes.

Than I cannot understand how most of the people can take it. This is so obvious lack of logic, even in Heroes 3. All creatures should be with the same size on the battlefield, because they represent stacks not single creatures and their size doesnt matter. And this is one of the things that we have to point to the devs, not arguing about 90% of the other things that are not of importance.

Actually I think the Small Creature-Large Creature thing is more of a tactical thing (as someone above me mentioned). Very much like Flying/Teleoprting/Walking etc units.

Hexagonal is much cooler and it's a special thing that belongs to HoMM games.

They shouldn't use any tiles at all, just vectors and collision .

Ugh NO thanks! That would be like in Heroes 4, which was the most retarded combat system ever. Like when you pointed your stack towards some enemy stack, and it started wandering off in the opposite direction because there were some invisible obstacles.

So no, I prefer the clear square/hex/whatever grid, that lets me plan my moves. As for the large unit discussion, no it doesn't always make sense, but it does add some variation to game play and strategy, so I'm all good on that.

On a side note, I just noticed we see 5 different Necro stacks in above shot, and all of them are small. So it seems they are no longer stuck on the 4 small / 3 large stacks for each faction.

Really? I think the H4 system was the most tactical by far. The invisible object thing was an artifact of the poorly done partial 3D, so you could see behind things, but you could easily make it not have that. I would like a more in-depth version of H4 tiles.

If they stick with small - large creatures, than the spell system should be changed. Fire ball can be a mass damage spell when cast on several small creatures close to each other, but should act as a single target spell when cast on large creatures - no more hitting of two large creatures with single fire ball. If this is the case than they should take only half damage. When Large creatures are attacked with Mage Fist or Magic Arrow (single target spell) than they should take half damage since there is not enough power in the spell to harm them. Extra mass spells like Meteor Showers could harm two large creatures with full strength.

Sqaures or hexagons?
i think i would rather choose a pentagon!

The hexgrid is more traditional, but the squaregrid worked very well in h5... so i don't care: both r good.

I like more squares but better yet would be octogons so You don't move longer in diagonal and can move In north south east west and they imtermidiates with the same distance.

The square grid is better and makes the battlefield clearer. It's also better for area-effect spells.

Initially, I thought it will be a bad idea to move from hex to square but it turned out that I was wrong. Besides, having big creatures (more than 1*2 hexes that we had in H3) in hex grid is kind of weird.

Saturn likes hexagons too!

u mean the ultra super gravity well generator that is located in Saturn's lower atmosphere, it makes clouds look weird, because of the artificial gravity it generates to keep the interstellar portal functional.

pretty soon our interstellar armada will emerge from there and all u puny humans will..........

ops got carried away lets forget I said that ok.
