However I think I remember reading a few posts on the subject and it's not something that can be edited or quantified so your guess is as good as mine.

Which makes it sort of a loose cannon in the middle of precison crafting

But no I have don't have a preferred faction for you to play. They should all be balanced and equal at this point.

I figured as much but there are 6 to play, so thought I'd do the double-check. Guess I'll just dial it up and restart where I was.

If you're issuing challenges, read The Manufacture of Consent, an essay written in 1984 by Noam Chomsky.

My using challenge was incorrect for what I meant. Most folks will not read things...academic. I have a feeling that you will if it has say...value. So here we are at HoMM and talking about a game, A Fairy-Story that has became interactive. I just think you would enjoy what the Professor has to say about this realm we play in. I could be wrong but I think not. Anyway, I'll find that essay of Chomskys.

JRRT did invent two languages, inspired by Welsh and Finnish. The actors in the Ring movies spoke those languages. They had to learn them for the roles. As a matter of fact the langs. came before the books. He needed a world where they could be spoken. Toss in love of Tales and poetry and then top it off with the last letter from a friend that was killed while 'they' were fighting at the battle of the Somme and you get The Rings. Look for that essay in the form of a  used book. It cannot cost much. My newest is from "The essays of J.R.R. Tolkien- The Monsters and the Critics and other essays" I doubt that would cost much used either. I have bought used from Amazon and they were cheap and in good condition.

Hell, just this year I went on a Bicycle trip from the middle of British Columbia down to Vancouver.(Yep I'm a Canuck, eh) Took me and my friend 9 days to get there, and was the third trip we've done together

Awesome I hitch-hiked a long time ago, one summer and the trip had to have been 2500 miles rt. So I can relate to the nature of your "adventure". That's what my trips always were. I had many crazy things happen on the road.

Quote:
Some of the best conversations I've had are from meeting people on the side of the road during a break or staying the night at a campsite

I can't tell you how many times I camped out and would end up with folks at my fires all night. I took my fires very seriously looking for hollow logs to direct the flames. A flaming work of art.

What an interesting statement. I would like to get some clarification on a few things before I can respond to that, so I can be sure we are talking about the same things. What do you mean by Train, no tracks, no way-sides. And when you say they've arrived do you mean that they all know the "truth" and therefore have shut their analytical selves down.

Truth is a good target for the train but you can make it work how you will. Applicability is what is key. Knowledge works too. I suppose very deep to me; it's best meaning is "Life" with the pursuit to Quality of Life, which of course has elements of Truth and Knowledge. However, they are not the only things, as you know when you took that bike-ride.

You remind me a bit of my friend who I do these trips with. He's always got to be in charge of the fire and seems to express himself through the fire he creates and maintains.

I suppose I'll understand you even better after I read the essay.

Okay, so we should actually get down to business here. What size of map do you think best fits the concept? I'm tempted to say Extra Large because there will be two of us to split up the workload. However I think Large may be more suitable since it is a 4 player map. What do you think?

How will making the map work? Will we pass a copy back and forth to work on and touch up what's done already? And who should lay the ground work?

If you or Naadir ever have an idea for the project please bring it up, because the fuller we all participate the better the Map will be in the end. Hmmm... Maybe I DO sound like a project lead

At 12, Mom high-tailed-it so I had to take care of two younger brothers for several years. It took a long time before I understood I was the worst of combinations Older-Brother-Mother...and didn't know it. My poor brothers.

Well you'll actually understand yourself better, at least I did to some extent. It's a teaching essay done on 'Faery'; it's history and effect on us. He was an Oxford Don, so you can count on some being dry but I found humor , wit and more importantly Truth about this fact of US. You're creative , so I think it will be enjoyable. It's not a taxing read at all, like some read-for-profit. Here all week, tank u, tank u.

I'll review your post and e-mail you and we'll go from there.

That's what I am doing right now with NaadirSlo. He is telling me what he needs on the map for his scripts and story and we pass the latest back and forth, trying different things out. I won't spill the beans but I think it will be good. He's making an interesting objective string. The key of course is keeping the versions seperate but with the growing KB total that's not hard until you take some stuff back off because of a re-direct

Man I'm great. I saw Doomforge's talent, (didn't know he had a review corner) and looks like I pegged you too

With Naadir we just have to dream up the scripts and I think he has the talent to get there. Look for the e-mail tomorrow.

An Older-Brother-Mother sounds a bit like Older-Adolescent-Sister+Hormones. Not fun. However I'd say you're brothers were lucky to have someone take care of them.

Well, I suggest we use this map as a way to find out what the differences between the A.I. personalities are.

After re-reading the entire thread I get where you're coming from and what you are probably trying to convey about life, the train, and more importantly, the destination.

In regards to keeping the versions seperate I propose every time we send a version of the map we have a suffix with our Nick Intial (so mine would be G) and what version number it is. I don't mean the V.92 scheme, just a simple count starting from one to infinity. (although work had better progress faster then that) I'll keep a copy of every version I receive in a seperate folder for reference and to protect the working copy.

So who is this Doomforge that you discovered. I only vaguely recognize the name.

The New Map

We probably should. It would be good to verify the settings. We may find they mean nothing but that would be good to know also. At least we would be going on more than a hunch.

I like it. We can do that. I think it a good idea for us both to keep the 'latest'. That would be like an automatic back-up with zero effort. I had my PC crash and burn last year.

With DF I 'discovered' what everyone else here already knew. <IMO> He has (my words here) a built-in-technical-scanner in reviewing gameplay. He's a natural, where I am a polar opposite and seldom question the 'balance or other technical aspects' during gameplay.

Look for an e-mail today.

Thanks Brother-Mapper It is what I envisioned. A very good first step that has it all on the first page...including links to move on up. I will say that I am yet remembering things to add to it at times. like the "testing" segment. I have yet to share a map on-line but I went to the map-site for "awareness" and I was pretty peeved at some of the comments that map-players made to several map-makers at the map-site. Some folks have the class of a slug, so then I saw a need for a heads-up to new-mappers.

To state it again:  I meant what I said...you helped make it a lot better. I can only hope that here and there, are Noobs to map-making that would not give H5ME a go before...that now will. I remember being very ticked-off when I first opened the H5ME. After the sweetness of H3s I was absoultely dumbfounded that a company would reverse course like they did. I still am.

Fyi, NaadirSlo is scripting a map of his own right now and Gibblets and I have begun one of his idea, so I'm not bluesy at the moment

Btw, if there is something I've overlooked in the Guide...fire-away

Take care Amigo

Hello,

Several years ago I've bought heroes3 complete and then first two chronicles wasteland and underworld, and afterwards I've managed to get Sword of Frost and Revolt of the Beastmasters. However, I am unable to secure other four cronicles, but I know they have to be somewhere out there. Can anyone suggest a good place where I can download any of the remaining four? I would appreciate it very much. Heroes Chronicles are my favourite. Thank you so much.

You might want to ask in the "Other Games Exist Too" forum, since I would think anyway, active players frequent it more.

I would like to find them too. I've have found some here but they're pricy and not all available? I would opt to go with used-copies, some at about 20$ but have not done so yet.

Cruisers versus Crotch Rockets

<imo> This could just as easily be placed in the OSM as anywhere else since it is about our preferences that skew most ANY topic.

From the start of my motorcycle-riding days, the idea of leaning-forward ,trying to become a knife, to cut through the air-rush, atop a multi-colored neon plastic two wheeled boomerang was about as appealing to me as a trip to a dental surgeon. I desired to “kick-back”  with my feet upon the high-pegs, astride a deep-throated growl. While; other than the needed looks to the road, I would gaze about, trying to see bits of the scenes that were steadily passing through my line of sight.

Now, the bike is gone. In it’s place lies a  HoMM map and I have found the very same battle of “wants”. What makes the “perfect map”? The number of answers to that question can approach the number of persons that attempt to answer, but the need for “battle-speed” or the “adventurous-stroll” still arise to clash around the definition of a “good map”.

I am not a good map-maker yet, but am on a quest to be one. However I am realizing that when I get there in my head, I will still be light-years away in other minds.

In this effort, like on my bike of old, I have my eyes open and attempt to catch a view. One that is very foreign to me but I realize is just another take from the ancient battle. Instead of a lighting-streaked-rocket ride; it’s the Brawl of the Bruisers, Tempest of the Titans or something to that effect.  Much akin to the daily struggle of  “take-out-food” versus the slow-paced home-made. “When will we eat!?,,,translates…it will take days to get to level 20! Forget that nonsense! Pick your bloody army and let’s get after it.

I would have not one person, raise their back-hair about my little  observations.  Simply because I am not at all saying one is better than the other. One is for me but I am only stating that one of us will want one, while the other wants the...other.

Whenever I stumble upon a curiosity like this common difference, I like to ask myself why?. I’d guess it has always been the case but I do wonder if the “times” are affecting this old conflict to any extent? Are more and more in the hectic lane of, need for speed? I think so.

So, in the end of this ramble, I know I will make a map and many will think it garbage as they “waste time and are bored to tears”  but hopefully, maybe a few, will kick-back ,  put their feet upon the high-pegs and find some…gold.

For what its worth; I've supported the need for a good RMG even though I do not use it.  I think ALL aspects of the game should be very well-supported. In the end, I hope H6 will.

Make a good day/map... whatever that may be
