Concerning night and day...

Well this is something that i'd like to see in a FUTURE version of Homm...

So simply u all should know what the night and day feature would be. To this feature in order to make it prefected you will need some additions. So here they are:

First of all different creatures, heroes adn towns would have bonus at different times of the day and same goes for penalties. The Necropolis town and all of it's creatures would have and adavantege in the dark because they are well undead. When sunlight hits they would lose defence asn attack by 25%(just for that day).
Each hero would have a night or day feature in which he would be selected to either move and fight at night or day...For example if a hero is switched to day mode he moves and fight at day and rests his troops at night. Of course this is not nesecearly true. If a hero who is day trvels at night his troops the next day move only 50%(cause they'r tired) and his(and his troops) attack and defense is lowered by 50%...

That's all so far...

How would it work I'm curious.. Each "turn" is 1 day passing, so day would have to turn into night at EVERY turn, but since the duration of each turn is variable (can be real quick or as long as you like since it is turn based) when does it decide to turn into night?

ther was an old game from EA - caled Archon - it was just great!

the game got - DAY, SEMIDAY, DAY-NIGHT, SEMINIGHT and NIGHT (or more variations). Depending on that creatures were stronger or not.

The game was alwasy BLACK against WHITe - here we can consider the good one's white, the bad' ones black (dark). And have day/night periods. - insteda of full days. but i dunno know..

No...

Day-Night not gonna work with the boring creatures they have now..
Day-Night needs more then only vampires and trolls.
Add Werewolves/Drow Elves/Will O Wisp/Wendigo and Drider
Then you can ADD in the day-night effect.
Only for 2 or 3 creatures it's noncence
I always ask myself why they put in wolves.. but not werewolves.(they can play they are cursed forever you know)
Maybe the hairy werewolves are to hard to disign......

day and night...

well, normally Orcs (the closest thing to Drow Elves) can't stand the sunlight... wolves can be deadly in the dark (although they can walk in daylight) same goes for tigers... vamps are well known sun-haters and i'm sure the night/day thing could be done... some creatures would be unavailable and some others would gain bonuses depending on the time...

the only problem I see is the turn based factor...

Choas Dragon(Hes black. So camoflage)
Troglodyte(They come out at night)
Orc/Razormane(non-tolkien orc)

Not every creature have day or night resistance.

Creatures like Sprite and elves like both.
The eyes of the elf have something that can let them see very good even in total darkness.
The sprite never sleep. They never become tired.

I think only shooting HUMANS must have night fear.
Crossbowman and ballista. They are day creatures. Because their range will go lost during nighttime
Others like cyclops and behemoth are just day and night creatures.

THE solution for the fact that the game is turnbased ans thus this night-day feature isn't possible might be this:
istead of one day and night in one turn, a full day should be spread over two turns. So on the first turn it's day and the day creatures enjoy their bonuses, on the second turn it will be night and the night-creatures will have their bonuses. Although, a week will take 14 turns instead of 7 now... but I don't really think that this is such a big deal.

Thank you darkispit....

That was my idea tohavethe day and night two different turns!
To the creature list...

There are some creatures that can fight in both night and day, but they don't have a bonus in either of them.

I'm a bit fishy about the 14-turn week.

well, maybe due to some very strange kind of thing ( don't know what) there could also be a night-week and the next week a day-week... this way there will still be 7 turns a week.

Perhaps each town, depending on whether it is a night or day town, has a certain radius around it that is night/day. The same goes for wandering creatures and Heroes. The rest of the map is neutral. Special night and day patches could be placed on the map by the Map Maker.

Why everybody.

Thinks weather and Day And Night are out of order.
It could be done. just chance some things.
Day/Night and weather would be the 2 gameplay things I like to see most!

Adding these things to the Heroes series would cause it to become even more complex. The key of making a good game is to know which things to include and which to exclude. Not all new stuff is good, some things are good to be left plain.
I'm not sure if a night and day system would work or be worth all the trouble, since it would either let the armies move twice as much in a week or make them move annoyingly little each turn. There would also be a major deal of tweaking included in this, so I wouldn't think it would be worth it, since I don't even know if it would work at all.

I don't know about the weather either, since there can be glaciers, desert, plains, jungle, swamp and so forth presend in a map. It wouldn't be quite logical for it to rain in a desert as well as the cold places.

-----------------------
ADDED:

If you really want to speculate this topic, consider this:
Instead of having more creatures generate once in a week, you could make them generate each day. A day could be spread over four day-turns and three night-turns in a row, as nights last less than days anyway. This way the armies will cover a more realistic amount of land each day. The horses from stables won't last for more than a day of hard use, instead of the week they do now. Oh well, you get the picture.

perhaps vampires should only be working all right at night - i mean it's a hard life these days - so they have to work and daytime also - but they can restore their life only at night.

Day Vs. Night

The only way to work this would be to have a day turn followed by a night turn.  You would have to make it so that the hero must rest in either the day turn or the night turn.  So if you moved during the day, on the following night turn your hero and it's army must be at rest.  Same goes for night heroes, they must rest during the daytime to move at night.

The night movement would have to have a fog of war associated with it, because unless you have huge bonfires you would not be able to see well at night.  Also nighttime movers shouldn't be able to move as far as daytime movers(You never know whats lurking in the dark so you must move slower).  A night creature ability might be night vision, so maybe bring some bats and owls in as guides.

Also if you find an enemy army at rest and decide to attack them, everyone in your army should get first strike for the first turn of combat, to similate sleeping troops.

Nighttime wandering monsters should be more powerful and agressive to make nighttime travel more risky.  Towns should not be accessable during the night because they would have their gates closed, unless the town is nighttime specific possibly the necropolis.

This is a cool Idea!
Ofcourse the Unicorns and Titans and other ONLY DAY creatures are not on the map during nighttime. Only vampires and other night creatures.

The necropolis and Asylum town should be open on nighttime and closed at daytime?

not really.. .the towns should look abandoned... the hero walks in to rest, but when the night comes, BOOM! the place is crawlled with creatures ready to have a night snack
