Yeah Sal I only downloaded that mod on like my 15th character when the normal start was beginning to give me pains. ^^
Wait, what is this I hear about a 3.1gb limit on mods?! Could be the reason for my crashes, I have over a dozen Gb worth of mods. Scratch that, my Data folder is 34gb, (normal Skyrim is around 4gb isn't it) oh noes. Oh no it's how far you push your ram.

Man invented language to complain.
Don't pay attention to my first impressions, I was expecting Obvlion start like. In fact, the 'skip' mod offers 4 different fates, and the second one placed my character directly in the nature, some forest. That was nice.

I tried normal starts. 10 minutes I look at guys traveling in a coach. Then people talk around, I can't move. Then some dragon attacks, I can move but no idea where to go, tried everything, can't break the script.
I like starts where you are active, don't like much such scripts.

You go towards the guys screaming "COME HERE, PRISONER INTO THE TOWER! INTO THE TOWER PRISONER! INTO. THE. TOWER"
You can also follow the gigantic arrow on your compass, or the in-game arrow that hovers above your objective, or you could just go straight forward if that's confusing as well since you get up facing the right way

Ok, I think I will start with this configuration:
Plugins:
Mods:
I think I'll have to reboot, the armors/weapons mods refuse to install due to lack of memory.
The last 8 plugins or so are part of the SkyRE compilation.

Better pic of my character.
Northborn Scars just made hotfiles, couldn't resist downloading and put 'em on the pic above.
I'm liking it, some of them actually has some real depth to them. Reminds me of an old scar mod I used for a Dunmer that just stopped working

I think Serana has some serious mental issues. Dreldyn has been nothing but rude to her and yet she steadfastly defends him to her mom. Open your eyes, girl! He's at least as bad as your father!
In fairness, this is a problem with a couple of the 'complete jerk' responses. I had the same problem with the Thieves' Guild; I tell Mercer that Nocturnal can hang so long as I get those giant gems he just grabbed and after some (accurate) comments from him on my lack of morals I can't do anything but prattle on about having honor.

Have a question: SKSE (script support) adds one icon on the desktop to start the game from. Until then I started from NNM. Starting from SKSE will ignore mods in NNM or is ok?

It's perfectly fine, also you can even start SKSE from NMM all you have to do is click on the little arrow on the right of the launch button and select it. You can modify load orders and disable/enable plugins in both NMM or normal Skyrim and it will affect SKSE.

Okay, so this is very beautiful, not a single CTD until now, I am wolves worse nightmare and visited a few towns.
So...how to level? The skill system seems to be a bit confusing, constellations and such. Sometimes I see I gained a level in something, while running or so. Does it work as in Oblivion, more you performed one action, faster you level in that skill? I am casing fire ball like mad but no change so far. Also, healing is cast with left hand, but destructive spells need right, thus replaces weapon? Is not what I saw in videos.
What should I keep in mind while exploring around (ok for now I have no idea what to do else than following the road, look huge)? I am less interested by main quest than by getting the mechanics running a bit, leveling then see the available gear.

For leveling, you level one specific skill, that then adds to your progress of going upwards on your current overall level.
For example if you leveled, say, 2 levels in the enchanting skill and 3 in alchemy (all skill levels add up), you would get enough progress to get one overall level, giving you the ability to pick an improved attribute (health, stamina or magic) and invest a perk into a skill tree (constellation). note that you can invest the perk in whatever you like, doesn't have to be the skill you are currently leveling.
To level a specific skill you must do things related to that skill. Ie you'll need to start smithing by smithing iron stuff at the forge. And I do think they patched the system to where you'll do more advanced things in a skill, the better experience you get.
If you are casting a fireball, are you casting it against targets? destruction skill only levels if you are casting destruction spells in combat I believe.
For hands, you can cast any magic from either hand. You can wield an axe or a shield in the other if you want to. Though some spells need both hands to cast.
For starters...well, I suggest you do some small quests around towns I suppose. Better get yourself a few levels and some familiarity with the mechanics before going to clear every barrow you see.

Correct; brewing rarer and more powerful potions (EX: Invisibility) raises your Alchemy A LOT more than easier ones like simple healing potions. Likewise casting higher-level spells, or stealing more expensive items via Pickpocket.
Darkshadow said: If you are casting a fireball, are you casting it against targets? destruction skill only levels if you are casting destruction spells in combat I believe.
Yes, most skills you have to actually have an impact on the world to gain experience (EX: swinging your sword at thin air won't raise your One Handed, you have to actually deal damage with it).
There are a couple loopholes--like the circle of repel undead gains you XP so long as there are undead inside it, they don't have to be driven off--so your zombies and such count, as do high-level undead too powerful to be affected by the spell. Also potions with more than one effect raise your Alchemy more, even if the effects counteract, for example a potion that restores your Magicka but also drains it over time.

Got to level 5. This game is lacking the most obvious tweaks and friendly interface. Practically it is about 99% same actions over and over and nothing is done to tweak. There is NO option to increase run speed. The map is way too huge so you spend 95% of game play running from one location to another. 3 hours ago I reached the backpack weight limit, and now?
Where to sell them?
The icons on map are confusing, a enormous one can point to a 2 house village, small ones to huge towns. I can't remember where to sell items so the last 3 hours I was searching for such facilities, which SHOULD BE PLACED at the entrance of every town, to avoid frustration.
Then I have no idea how to switch from ranger equipment to melee. If I equip a bow, I must open inventory in melee and equip a sword? This is way to clumsy, bow should be on your back, use it for distance attacks, then melee weapons for anything close. Switchable with one button.

Holy ****, I uninstalled and completely deleted ALL of my mods, I ain't Ad, I always have over 300 plugins (255 running at any one time, but the mods are still around screwing stuff up), but constant CTDs and frankly an unplayable Skyrim, even though my computer is pretty decent , has led me to start afresh, and it is the best decision I've made this year. (it will be hard to top it, but still early) So after 4 hours of uninstalling and choosing only ESSENTIAL(!!!) mods to re-download (about 30 of them now), but by god my game has never run better, and so damn gorgeous even on low detail. (I reduced it to try and combat the CTDs to no avail)
I'm going to restart as a Redguard, but couldn't resist loading my save to see how things changed, !!!!. Look away if yer afraid of true beauty!
It's the exact same character as the one I posted previously (but now you can see the hair), such radiance. (except the only difference is that the good looking one is low detail and with far less mods, while the odd ball is medium detail with a crap oozing out of every pore)

@Sal: If you had looked at Step you would've installed the essential SkyUI which improves the HUD tremendously. Also the unofficial patches.
You can fast travel to reduce the time spent running, I also assume you found the sprint button to run faster.
All the major holds where the big shops are have their own icons, and you'll also become familiar with the land as you explore it which for many is one of the greatest enjoyments.
You can favourite equipment and then add hotkeys for them, like 1 for sword and 2 for bow.
@Ivor: I know, great feeling right? Looks way better.

I have Step, I have Skui, I got everything you sent to. Sprint key? Man, this game comes with no manual! I have some scrap paper which indicates hotkeys, I have one for run/walk, but nothing for sprint.
I really need to mod that speed to +1000% or I will die before I finish this game.

It's a timeeater to be sure. Most start playing it and then wake up 2 weeks later when the neighbours get worried and call the cops to check on you. You dying is a legit possibility, this be hardcore gaming
Actually it's super-casual but you rolled with populated mods + SkyRe so you might actually have a real hardcore game .
The fact that I've played this game for so long might make me a bit blind to the newcomer experience ^^ I do think most of it is covered in the tutorial, if you missed it just go to options and help and the popups will be there for you.
