CORE (OoC)

Background - A mysterious 2-mile across spaceship shows up over London England.  It is very damaged, and before it can safely land explodes.  Same damage occurs to London, but it was too high up to do a lot of damage.  20 'pods' are jettisoned right before it explodes.

Characters - Start as everyday people.  However, special training is acceptable.  Including working for MI6 or other Governments and their agencies (just remember they will disavow any knowledge if you are caught or such).

Name :
Nationality:
Description:
Skills:
Background:
Other (optional):

Objective : Retrieve as many 'CORE' fragments as possible.

CORE - Each Core unit has unusual affects on humans.  They grant unusual abilities and powers.  Not all powers or affects are beneficial for the person obtaining it.  I have a complete list, but each will be a mystery until found.  Which you find (if any) depend on where you look .

Cores are shaped like rings, you must wear the ring to learn the power and to use the power.  Some will NOT let you remove them, or allow themselves to be removed.  The MOST rings anybody can wear is .. 10 (surprise!).

Some cores will not be where they should be, having been found.  Dangerous or not .. well that will be a surprise.

Setting : Current day earth, so only the KNOWN technology etc will be available (at least at the beginning).

You have the time you give yourself. Stay up an hour extra one day, and suddenly you have loads of RP-time

Might join, would be fun with a more non-superpower RP too with normal people! Looks interesting, though I am kinda confused about how the RP would go about.

It's still work in proress so I quess he's open to suggestions.

It's not that I don't have time per se but I lack the creativity time. Writing VW posts takes a whole lot effort than writing RPG ones. Especially for me since I become the character. Writing 6 hours for a single RPG post isn't unkown to me.

count me in on this, already got a character idea running through my head just from reading this.

From reading the intro post I got this feel from it((no need to correct me if i am wrong about this, I just feel like saying what I felt after reading the intro)):
This is going to be and action/survival thriller RP with all the players out hunting for the same treasure. We are free to cross make alliances and enemies as we wish, and double crossing is sure to be a major part.
My gut tells me that there is something lurking behind the dark carpet and that the players are not gonna be the only one after these artifacts, there might be something hidden in the darkness of the unknown, something that might decided to hunt and kill us should we get our claws on a CORE.
So we got to ask ourselves: Is getting these alien CORE thingies really worth getting our hands so dirty? Is it worth the risk? Should we not just give up already? But where we give up, there is sure to be someone else out there who do not. And who said that they are as 'honest' as yourself? Do we really risk that some mad psychopath get their paws and tentacles on the CORE? And what kind of mysterious plot is there to uncover here? Why did the ship explode? Why did it come to Earth? So many questions to be asked, but only so little will be answered.
or perhaps I am just high on coffein + being overtired from watching the meteor shower tonight, and I am simply reading to much in the opening statement

I am not sure yet how free form or not this is going to be, obviously there is a lot to consider.  Like the fact that if left to some the very first 'Core' they picked up would make them make superman look like Pee Wee Herman.  Sadly I am going to have to Nix 'James Bond', or any other established character that would have a copy write attached to it.

However, somebody is right on one thing.  I will let one thing out of the bag..collecting all the 'Core' items is JUST the beginning. I won't say HOW right he is, but B-E-T-A has the general gist of it

I think I am going to make a complete list of the possible powers of the Core items...give me a bit of time. Not listing where each is however.

First Core is the weakest by far - Charisma.  The possessor can manipulate people easy, and convince them to do things they might normally not.  However, a person wearing ANY other Core Ring is immune.

Then there are the four Elemental Rings.  Though immune to Charisma (and Charisma is NOT immune to them), they can not affect anybody who uses any other Core ring that is not an Elemental or Charisma ring.  They are of course : Fire, Air, Water, Earth.  If you have watched "Avatar : The last Air Bender"..pretty much works like that.

Now right 'above' the elemental rings are 'might' rings.  Rings that can function similar to Elemental Rings, but can do somethings that the normal Elemental Rings can't.  Remember the might rings can not do everything that the Elemental Rings that they are like can do, but can do things those rings can not. Not all elements are represented equally..there may be a secret that lies in that fact.

Charge Ring - Considered to be part Air and Part Fire..this has some of both..but can do something neither can.  Create and manipulate electricity.  HOWEVER like ALL 'Might' rings..at least one Elemental Ring must also be possessed by the user or the Might rings will not work at all.

Storm Ring - Considered part Air and part Water.  Allows flight, control of weather .. but oddly enough can not summon lightning.

Meld Ring - Air and Earth.  Allows complete invisibility (to all means unless specifically listed in another rings abilities), and instant travel through Earth, Stone or Trees (Ie from one Stone to another or one tree to another).

Combustion Ring - Water and Fire.  This Might ring is a bit .. odd.  First it allows the user to use SIMPLE (ie not all computers, but the computers that run vehicles and the like) machines without any other power sources.  It is basically unlimited energy, but only in the narrow scope of providing power to machines.  The user of this ring can also overload any machine, pumping too much power for it to handle.

Shape shifting ring - Water and Earth.  Allows the user to mold their body to any size or shape..limited to 50% loss or gain of original mass.

Magma Ring - Earth and Fire.  Allows the user to coat themselves in a body armor composed of Magma.  Also they are immune to temperature of any kind.  If they could reach it, they could walk on the sun and not even get a tan.  Just keep in mind that while the heat of the sun would not bother them..the fusion that happens on the sun is another matter entirely.

((hmm 8 more, and we are getting into some decently serious power already.  Have the 'biggies' (final two)...

The next in the 'tiers' of the stone are called 'power' stones.  They can only be used by somebody who already possesses two or more other lesser stones.  Two Power stones can NOT be used by the same person.

Dragon Stone - All the elements combined..and then some.  User can take the form of a dragon.  Including breathing fire (fire), scaled hide that is very hard to damage(earth), flight (air), Regeneration (water).

Light Stone - The user can heal any damage to another person instantly, including death.  However, besides making the user immune to all but the 'Primordial' Stones..it does nothing for the user. At all.  Note : Even if the person they are trying to heal has been turned into atoms..they can bring them back.

Balance Stone - This is a tricky stone, as it will often mimic another stone.  It is also completely out of the control of the user.  It can be any other but a 'Primordial Stone', and the user can use the power that the other stone would have, but can not make it change or keep it from changing randomly.

Skipping to the Primordial Stones while I consider more power stones or something...The thing about Primordial Stones is..they chose their users..not the other way around.

Null Stone - Can negate the power of almost all other stones while those stones are within a certain distance of it.  The more powerful the other stone, the closer the Null Stone has to be.  While the wearer can not be affected by the 'Core Stone' it can not negate its power.

Core Stone - Near godlike powers..but at a very high price.  Whoever wears it, is under the complete control of the Core Stone..which is intelligent.  It is also insane.  Good, bad, or ugly..regardless of whoever wears it, they will seek the Null Stone..when they find it..they will attempt to destroy the world.

Ultra stones (one step down from Primordial, more powerful then the power stones).  ONLY primordial stones affect the wearers of an Ultra Stone..somebody with a Core Stone can Kill somebody wearing a Death Stone.  Also..only one Ultra stone can be used by any one person.

Death Stone - Despite its ominous name, it is sort of a reverse light stone.  It can keep the wearer from dying, from anything. They even stop aging.  However, and this is important.  Pain can still be felt, and they might WISH they could die.  This stone like some has a mind of its own however, and will end up where it wants to be...

Time Stone - Stops time for everybody but the wearer.  Note that while other objects can be moved..the Core Rings can not be..and nothing can be set up that once time starts flowing that will trap, harm, or kill another Core Wearer (normals are fair game however).  This one has a serious drawback, however.  The wearer ages more rapidly then normal.  Twice as fast when NOT using the time stop..ten times as fast when using it.  - Jantal currently Wearing.

I'll go for this: (to be edited as time goes by)

Name:
Rogé Cavaillès

Nationality:
French, lives near Marseille.

Description:
32 yo man, tall (1.99m), strong, brown hair & eyes.
Professional tennis player, former ATP Series #1.

Skills:
Physically really strong, Rogé is a force of nature. Everything asking for effort looks easy to him.
Having left school early, and only focused on tennis for decades, Rogé is not really smart. Yet his amazing career has offered him a world-wide fame, along with a lot (loooooooooot) of money. Rogé is very famous, incredibly rich, and on top of that a handsome guy. As a result, he always tends to focus attention and take advantage of other people.
Were he a D&D character, he would have 22/20 Charisma.
He speaks French as mother language, and years of professionalism ended up in him understanding quite well English. However, he still speaks roughly, with a strong French accent.

Background: Rogé is a kind of tennis genius. Some compare him with Mozart for Music. Rogé indeed started playing tennis soon, at 5, and immediately encountered success in that sport. He became professional at 18, stopping school at 16. He has always been a talented player and his domination went bigger as professional. He became ATP #1 aged 22 and keep that rank for 8 years, until 29. During that period, he absolutely overwhelmed other players, widely beating the record of win: he remained flawless from 24 to 28, 5 years long. Alas at 29, he started losing some matches and must put a lot of energy to preserve his rank. Time then claimed his due more and more on Rogé's body and he lost his rank the year his 30. His decline was as surprising as it was fast. At 30, he finished the year at 3rd rank, and at 31, ended only 6th. Rogé suffers a lot from that decline. Being a natural winner, he cannot accept being forgotten that fast and would be looking to anything that could help him taking his leadership back, one more time.

Other:
Rogé's fortune is not solely explained by his tennis performance. Since he's professional, he's accompanied by his manager, an american man called Richard Clumsky, 51. Richard has always sought (and still does) the best sponsor contracts, advertisement campaigns, bank investments and all that stuff for his employer. What made their work together so successful is the fact they never became friends year after years. They are still in a really cold-hearted relation and quite sceptical. However, both are grateful to each other for their respective income.
Rogé still has no family (wife or children). He does not smoke, nor drink alcohol (only a grand red wine glass from time to time) and takes care of himself.

Tan and with azure blue eyes. A scar across his upper lip, on the right side. He is 38 years of age.

Name: John Slate

Nationality: Citizen of the United Kingdom

Description: John Slate looks like a pretty regular guy, slightly over six feet tall, short brown hair, matted brown eyes, rather on the skinny side, but you wouldn't exactly call him that. You definitely wouldn't call him robust or big, though. You'll usually find him in pretty regular, casual clothing, jeans, t-shirt, big leather shoes, nothing fancy. He speaks in an undefined accent, which fluctuates between Canadian, Welsh, French and Scottish and occasionally dabbles in what he interprets to be American. Someone who talked to him would always associate him with a different nationality from their own.

Skills: Physically rather on the weak side, but rather tenacious.
Speaks French and English.
Can fix some basic problems with a car (can pose as a mechanic)
Can steal a car
Knows which end of a gun is which (so he wouldn't shoot himself in the face with it or mess up reloading or miss a target at a distance within 20 yards, but marksmanship and maintenance lies way beyond his expertise)

Basic cooking (again, he's not a maître d', but can cook)
Can at least pass off as well-read.
Background: John Slate was a pretty normal guy all-around, at least that's how his co-workers described him. He kept mostly to himself and did not act way out of the ordinary. He hadn't gone through any special studies or training and just worked a regular office job in a cubicle somewhere. Of course, only later they'd realise he actually never said anything beyond some basic normal-people sentences, but John is not a normal person.

John is what is known as a bipolar schizophrenic of the Paranoid degree. This is something the London police complicated while they found the body of John's boss in several places across the office. He had been sentenced to treatment in the mental hospital. Seven years later, after he became more aware of who and where he is, got to take meds regularly and learned to pass off as a normal person (read: not alarm people), he got out. How? Well, the staff definitely was far from ready to release him. John was still a very dangerous individual. No, it was the giant space ship from the sky that set him free. Falling debris damaged the hospital and allowed several inmates to escape. most inmates had been rounded up (after all, they were inmates of a mental hospital), but John somehow managed to remain hidden in the great city and has, due to his very average and bland looks, been impossible to find so far.

And now John has plans of his own. He wishes to thank the craft that freed him.

Other (optional): He's crazier than a shark with a can opener.

Name: Jonah Andersson
Nationality; Swedish (gotta go with the things I know…)
Description; Age 28, on the long side (1.87m, (6” 3’?). Blond hair, blue eyes, slightly tanned.

Skills: A bit of an all-rounder. His many interests have given him a considerable amount of “small-job” experience. He could pass as a fair programmer, a decent cook or just a normal office worker, is probably able to fill in for anyone who doesn’t work with cars or animals. He can speak several languages, a few major ones fluently (Swedish, English, German and Chinese to be exact) and a host of others decently. He’s also very fit, exercising several times a week.

Background: Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Jonah was a pretty normal boy. He had decent to good grades, many friends, and a loving family.
During his teens his parents moved away from each other, though they didn’t file for a divorce, nor did they stop celebrating Christmas and birthdays together. Some time during this period Jonah became very interested in travelling. He travelled somewhere pretty much each holiday, both with his family and on his own. He studied at an international university, focusing mostly on learning new languages. After graduation he left Sweden, travelling through Europe, earning money through small jobs and temporary employments. He never stayed at one place more than six months.

Other: Some strange circumstances during his upbringing and youth mean that he doesn’t own a driving license and has zero interest or knowledge in cars and such like. He is also prone to motion sickness and is allergic to hairy animals.

Think I'll see how this one goes. Here's my character.

Name: Gabriel

Nationality: US

Description: 19 years old. Slightly wiry, and fairly short for his age. He keeps his brown hair cut short, so it doesn't interfere with anything. He love changing into different clothing styles each day, so that depends on his choice that day. Nothing too outrageous when in school, but home's fair game.

Skills: Some dance, costume design, moderate knowledge in other theatrical areas, sewing, calligraphy, cycling, gymnastics(focusing on the balance beam)

Background: Recent graduate and fresh college student. Within grade school, he did better in certain areas than others; gymnastics, and arts. Of those, he wanted to focus most on the arts. Now, he is going for a career in costume design. He still, however, works with the others. Arts, the gym, and other required classes, and then there's the cycling to school. Dance wasn't continued though.

Other: Gabriel is a mute. He understands English, and French, though only "speaks" in American sign language. He does, however, carry a device to type out what he is trying to say, should the one he is talking to not know the signs.

When he travels, he is often seen riding a bike, with a bag on his back. That is roughly the only time he isn't seen in one of his various outfits, due to it being too difficult to ride in some.

He collects various clothing when able. Male, or female, as long as it is something he can envision as a part of a costume he can use at some point, and cheap enough.

His closet isn't large enough to hold his entire wardrobe collection, so he has several cases around his room holding the remainder of it all. His mother did her best to just ignore it all when he was still at home.

Wog..only certain stones have restrictions.  The others can be used, if you can collect them, freely.

The CORE stone can only be used by itself.  Somebody who has it on can not use any of the others.  The Null stone nullifies all the other stones, so it doesn't matter if you wear one or not.

The Ultra stones will let you use other stones, but not on the hand that has the Ultra stone..and not another Ultra stone period.  So if you wear one of them..the MOST you can have on is 6.

Want to clarify the Core Stone.  It is like the Balance stone, only much stronger.  It has the power of all but the null stone combined.  Too bad if a player picks it up and wears/uses it they automatically become a NPC...until dead or the Stone is removed from them.  The CORE stone can be destroyed..but only by somebody with the Null Stone.  Still working on the last stones..any suggestions?

However Stef picked the wrong side when there was a revolt within the syndicate. And even though he managed to talk himself out of trouble, he was deemed a risk. Now he is in England, essentially banned, to pursue the syndicate's interests in the UK.

Other (optional):Has a weakness for pretty women. He smokes cigars and has slight modereation problems when it comes to alcohol. Stef hates to be followed around by goons and relies on his charisma, skills and his bulletproof vest to get himself out of trouble.
