How to counter...
A thread where we discuss how you counter what as what faction. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them
How do you counter Titans, Mages and Rakshasa?

Among those three, I find Mages to be the most difficult to counter in all stages of the game. In early stage it is common to meet Archmages during creeping, and their fireball is just plain nasty. While Titans and Rakshasas, being large creatures, are easier to deal with just by blocking them. Normally in creeping you'd meet Colossus, and like other walkers regardless of tier, Fire Trap is the best counter.
In final battle, I still consider Archmages more difficult to counter than the other two. They are both shooter and caster, block them they can still cast spell. If you have Expert Dark and mind-affecting spells, you'd still face a dilemma should you cast upon them or Rakshasas (the latter is generally the better). Either way you'll face one loose cannon. As with Titans, since their lightning/storm ain't that scary, simply treat them as shooters. Teleport, gating, or any other means to reach them asap.
I'd take other creatures than Mages any day in creeping.

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it.

mind control works well on rakshasa. and powerful shooters.
against mages, black dragons, obviously, that's the best counter that comes to mind
titans are tricky, they don't have much weaknesses. lots of defense (for a shooter), no melee penalty, so even blocking them doesn't eliminate the threat. they can cast at will and are immune to mind spells... that doesn't let many options. dragons would outmight them, but avoiding losses is something else, seems like regeneration or resurrection would be useful.
if you play dungeon, you could definitely use some help from shadow ladies

A trick vs titans, Sandro's cloak and fear my roar or puppet. Archmages can be nullified with Alastor's confusion, drains their mana

anyway, the archmage's defense isn't anything special, if you can reach them with a creature that deals good damage, the problem is solved. though, they are annoying in creeping.
the most fearful imo, may be the black dragon, apart from storm wind, not much you can do?

7 demons/imps and a hero with mark of the damned, bye bye blackies.
Or just a flaming ballista.

Are we talking creeping or final battle? In the latter you should probably follow the tried and true method of wacking them till they're dead.

Titans, deflect missile, destro, mark of the damned, cavaliers, etc. etc..
Rakshashas, dark, destro, mark of the damned, cavaliers, etc. etc..
Mages, anything that does damage, really.
But seriously, it's not about countering units. It's about countering the enemy hero and tactics.
It doesn't matter crap if you've got all the dark magic in the world to counter the rakshahas only to find that enemy went light and has anti-magic.

what comes to my mind ,about countering academy, is a strong burst damage, defence as skill and light or dark magic ( better light)
also - storm wind helps against the academys blockers + has a good effect on the phonix ( if summonend ), if u play haven or sylvan consider suppres light a good pick - the academy player will most likely go for light + x, where x = summoning or destructive ( needs one of them for creeping ).In this case the infamous MotW + ressurection combo will cost him 60 mana - ive lost too many haven vs academy games, where the academy player has won just becouse of one or two double ressurections more
then on small maps - balista/summoning/destructive
on large maps - logistics - with 2% chance for defence and 2% for logistics the opponent will most likely have some serious skill issues, which means that in most of the cases u will be the only one with logistics - too good to skip, best pick there is swift mind, if u have some good initiative boosters familiar ground is also a decent choice
and dont play vs elvins academy, its bugged

How to counter Fortress late game?
Probably Elvin's Academy would have done the trick...
Seriously, as Inferno I played against one, who probably creeped better than me as he had a few more units in every tiers, but no way I could beat him on the final battle. He wiped everything, while I actually only did a very small damage. No possible comparison.

Forfeit? . Actually depends on how late game we are talking. Haven, Sylvan, Fortress, and Stronghold are amazing late game, even against academy. Dungeon if you have blackies and irresistible magic maxed can do some damage too. No single town is unbeatable. The skill of the players play a HUGE part on how good a town is.

Obviously! Btw I'm usually like that when I suffer from lack fo sleep, I don't even recognize myself. No planning ahead, no smart moves, no analysing the possible tactics, mechanical as opposed to creative playing

Inferno has plenty of tricks on its sleeves. Swift Gating + Teleport Assault and Swarm Gating combo, it would be a great match against Fortress. That's pretty much the build one should anticipate in Elvin's Duel Map. On larger map with possible more skills, the options become even greater.

Err in a real game fortress has good chances to kick inferno's @ss. Don't look at the duel that has no dwelling boosts, in a real map armies will be larger and dwarves have greater staying power. While inferno dies just as easily.
