The first Titan in greek mythology was a female is I remember correctly. The mother of Zeus (ya know, the guy with all the lightning bolts and stuff!) was Gaia, a Titan. So yeah, I'd love that. But I'm also for blatant homo-eroticism by having huge muscular men wearing loincloths.

No Gaia is only a titan in God of War, she was just the representation of tue earth, Rheia is the one you are talking about, a titaness and Zeus Mommy

do we need another matriarchal faction? I know that Lorevise Shelaasa and Melassa have many things incommon, but I would leave the Matriarchal thing to the DE's

I dont think that the naga are a matriarcal society, they are a "whoever is more perfect than anyone else wins" society

I don't know what God of War is, but she was a titan/titaness. The deities before the gods of Olympus all were (a pattern that repeats in Norse mythology, were all the gods came from a giant). And she's the mother of the whole universe (more or less) but she's probably more like the grandmother or another generation before Zeus. But then again, it's mythology, there are boundless versions and interpretations.

But if we quote other games, she's also a Titan in the Age of Mythology expansion.

No Gaia is not a Titan, she is earth itself and is considered a primordial deity. However she is the mother of many of the most famous Titans such as Cronus, Hyperion.

okay, it's been awhile since I've dived right into the mythology, but didn't Gaia and Kronos spawn the olympian gods? Kronos ate them... Gaia hid Zeus and fed Kronos a rock... Big war... You know?

No, not quite, you are mixing up Gaia with Rhea. Gaia and Uranus was the parents of Cronus. Rhea was sister and wife to Cronus.
She was therefor the mother of Zeus, and she was the one who hid Zeus.

Ah, my mistake then! Never even heard of Rhea.
But then again, I don't know too many titans, except Leto, Prometheus, Kronos, Ouranos and Gaia.

This. Gaia (Mother Earth) and Uranus (Father Sky) which is her son, are the Titans progenitors but not titans themselves. Kronos and Rheia are two titans of first generation who are the parents of the first generation of the Olympic Gods

Oranos (sky). Kronos and his brothers and sisters were 'swallowed', because their father feared they might overthrow him (irony). Gia felt sorry for her trapped children: rescued them, married kronos (no idea whether they got married per-say but you know what i mean ) and had li'l god kids. Nooooooow these gods overthrew the titans tyranical rule over humans and after much fighting they managed to lock them away. Simples...

didn't Oranos also get his family jewels chopped off?

anyway, if we talk greek mythology, women haven't always had the best wrap, usually comforming to very strict gender roles.

@bixie: Or you know:

Conqubine (ranging from an expensive prostitute to a wife)
Priestess (or even an oracle!)
Warrior (especially in states with a low population or that fought a lot. Then they kindof needed everyone)

Back then women had to give life to real men, but they knew women better back then aswell, I dare-say their entire society was far more advanced.

She was both. For example if you were a General you would do well to pray to Athena. Where as a common soldier would pray to Ares.
You could say that she was the goddess of "grand scale warfare".

As most Greek Gods and Goddesses she was a little bit of everything.

Wisdon, warfare, strategy, defense, weaving, arts, olives, patron of heroes and Athens, BFF of Nike(Victory) etc.... She just rocked. Also anger her was harder than with the other gods (as long as you didnt do anything wrong in a temple of hers). Hera on the other hand.......(though she at least had an excuse most of time)

Concubine was in athens, similar to Japanese Geisha's. Though, Athen women as wives were oppressed, it was unbelievable.
Priestess, yeah, but not quite a lot and I would also like to point to Roman vestals (though, women were technically property in Roman culture. Especially post-august.)
And the warrior-women lived in everyone's favorite warrior-fascist state, Sparta. Yay!

yes, there is also the Trojan War, after the fall of Troy, when Cassandra (the princess that could see the future but no one believed her) got raped by Ajax while she clung to an Athena statue (if i remember well. She told her uncle Poseidon to make a storm to sink the Greek fleet because they failed to punish Ajax (he was an a.hole and still got killed by Poseidon)
