No, we aren't supposed to play it because I can't play it .
But the programm is stopping to work when this "check for updates" thing is opening. That thing with conflux has just to do with the Multiplayer specials but you can also play offline. I had that error "cant connect to Conflux" yesterday.

I have a ton of new restrictions, and a few deliberately placed "bugs" that weren't there yesterday, but if I put up with them, I too can "play" a very stripped-down version. I would welcome the official opinion about this as well.(I accidentally started the game after it was supposed to expire, and didn't notice it for approximately 15 minutes, after which I immediately quit-am I now in danger of being sued?

Lol, I doubt they can sue you. If it is illegal to contiune playing for some weird reason, they would probably be very clear about that.
I also disconnected a bit when I played, but that happened before too. I noticed one place which "triggered" disconnects and it was while visiting a creature dwelling on the adventure map.

They disconnected the Conflux server around 1PM CET, but you could still play in offline mode until they disconnected the UPlay server.

My version had started crashing within about 90 seconds of loading a game anyway. Looking forward to the real beta a lot now though, even if it is the same maps.

yeah my latest save with Necropolis on the multiplayer map just keeps crashing now BUT I had an earlier save wirh Haven on the same map and for some reason I can play with them without many problems

Hey!
Despite I got the key for the private beta last Monday, I only installed it today. Unfortunately, once I launch the game, I got this error:

Is it normal? I skimmed some recent posts and some of you mentioned that the private beta is already finished. Is that so?

Actually as I can see you "can" but you "cannot" play. whoever else is trying now can understand what I mean! so now what we wait 5 full days? i can't take it!

Well, I'm still able to play in single mode. I haven't tried the multiplayer. So I just started the first campaign and happy with that for the moment.

Yup. If you've preordered in a sensible fashion, you'll have access.
Hope it runs without crashing every two seconds like the other beta.
Yeah it's pretty awesome. The factions have some similarities but major differences too (I think HOMM5 also had big differences between factions). Edit: maybe I went into too much detail here. Changed to consider NDA.
Detail gone BUT: If you read the creature and faction descriptions you'll get a good grasp of the faction differences and play styles. I definitely got much more effective at creeping once I got to know the faction styles, for instance trying to use Haven offensively rather than defensively when I started lost me a lot of units. I think there are more strategies to discover. I believe it will turn into quite a complex game, it'll be great for multiplayer.
