In game "deals"

This is part provocative post and part therapy for me. If I type out my story maybe I'll feel better about it.

Playing Hourglass 2 vs a player who will remain unnamed I had some good luck.

Elixar of Life(not preassembled), Sword of Judgement, Heavenly Helm, Titans Cuirass, Titan's Gladius, Cloack of Undead King(which I didnt use), +12 knowledge helmet w/mana vortex, etc etc.

My hero was Sir Mullich but to take my utopia I used Alamar as to avoid any troop losses.

My opponent seen Alamar's stats and said "I have lost this game."

Little did he know that Alamar was a chump with great artifacts and that Mullich would have stats 2-3 times higher.

Also Mullich was built just for combat. All might skills, recanters and shackles.

He says "I have to go. Just bring Alamar up and finish me."

"Alamar is not my main. It will take me a few days to get everything transferred to my main and get up there."

"Then I have to go. I don't have time for it."

"OK, OK I will just bring Alamar that way I won't have to upgrade the dragons. I can come right up."

"Meet me on the cursed ground, hehe.", he says.

"Look dude if I am being rushed and trying to help you out by using my magic hero that is a lot weaker than my main hero the least you can do is fight me at your castle or on neutral ground."

"OK", he says.

So I walk to the edge of the cursed ground so I can run through on the next day and he comes running into the middle and sits on the well.

He says "You fight me here Warlock. I ain't budgin."

I said "Man I am trying to be nice here and you pull this? You must want to win really badly. Lame 'tactic'."

I told him "If you want to win so bad as to pull something like this then take it." and just logged off and reported the loss.

Sure I could have won by running through and taking his towns.

Or by switching off to Mullich and attacking him a few days later but man I don't want to play with people like that.

I play for fun and playing cheaters isn't fun.

I learned my lesson but I have heard of this happening a lot.

The point is; We shouldn't make 'in game deals' like this. It is always just a trick by the losing player to get a cheap win and is just another way of cheating.

Abusing the trust that your opponent gives you and wasting his time.

I am fully aware it was my fault for trying to be helpful when he had to go.

I won't do it again of course.

Anyone else got any stories like this?

If so don't name the opponents name. Lets not ruin people's reps here.

By the way he wasted no time claiming his "win".

I hope he cherishes it. It will go away when the ranks reset in a few weeks but making an enemy doesn't go away that fast.

Is there really someone that will play cheap like that?
Well, I am not a ToH player but I started to like reading the posts here. I used to play online a lot but only limited playing with friends (rather than against) so the games are always wonderful. Of course, I lose the feeling of competitiveness in real tournament. But well we love talking and sharing strategies in our game. Anyway, your experience convinced me that it's not worth it to play with a total stranger. ;-)
Hope it won't happen again to you or anyone for that matter.

I am fairly new to online play, so my record isn't great.  Actually, it is really bad. lol.  I was playing this guy about three weeks ago.  I get to his castle and find it empty.  About a half of a days movement outside it is his main hero, and I can reach both of them in one turn (I had exp. log and path).  He asks me not to take his castle so he can regenerate his spell points for final fight.  Our stats were pretty equal, but my army was stronger.  So trying to make the final battle fun for him too, I let him do it.  I don't attack and end my turn.  His turn, he goes into his castle and buys about 2 to 3 weeks worth of creatures he had been stock piling.  Comes out of castle that very same turn and attacks me.  Now his army is twice the size of mine.  And the thing that pisses me off the most, he didn't need to regenerate spell points, he was full.
What can I say, its part of the game.  I played the roll of the nice guy and lost for doing it.  I really don't care about my record though, I still play the roll of the nice guy.  I just want to have fun.  I hope I go 1 - 50, it will make for good jokes in here.  Of course, i hate to be the poor bastard who gave the 1 win. lol.

Mocara, conceding the game at such a point seems somewhat masochistic to me. Why not just save and insist on a date to continue the game? And if the player doesnīt appear, hand it to the HC? I think collecting the deserved win would have required much less time and energy than working off your anger and frustration after the loss report.

I do not like quitters getting away with a lost game not being rated, and rewarding them with a win is even more encouragement for such a low behaviour.

no rules

My focus is simple, No rules.  This includes situations like these.  Of course, my last few games have been losing games, but because I enforce the rule on myself as well, like hitting something by accident, and losing main, or forgetting to move a critical hero and pressing the end turn (for me its common since im usually doing toh update and lose focus).  But point is I dont ask for a re-start nor do i drop because of it.  I expect the same from my opponent, without whining.

believe it or not i agree with mocara

i totally understand that he was pissed and reported his loss.

Lews u say saving and sending save to HC ? i think that would just suck more to write counteless letters to HC and that guy and wait for the decision. (and as far as i know u can't do anything to force a player to continue a game) And waste more time with guys like the one Mocara played.

best with such guys is just put em on ignore and never play em again.
he didn't cheat but he behaved like a  ********.

too bad that some players seem to enjoy beeing a pain in the butt

good there are just a few of em

Well..

Itīs about 2 things.

1. The value of the concept of having one win more or less on a page known as TOH for a few month, and how it varies between individuals.

2. The personal preferrence of basic instinct satisfaction, following urges of the moment, "doing what you feel like" vs Goal achievment.

Imagine this.
We put you in a room with 1 chocolate bar. We tell you that we will come back in 30 minutes and if you havent eaten it we will give you another one.  Maybe you really like chocolate and are patient, so you sit there and wait. Then after 30 minutes you get your choccolate bar, and now that you have 2 you eat them and feel really happy. Yum

Imagine that we put Mocara in the same situation. We put him in a room, give him a chocolate bar and tell him that we will come back in 30 minutes and if he hasenīt eaten it we will give him another one. Mocara would probably shout "Screw you! I donīt even like chocolate!" throw the chocholate bar in your face, kick you in the shins and run out of the room.

In that perticular case the want to have 2 chocolate bars didnīt even come close to outweighing the want to do what you feel like and not having to do what someone told you.

Im not saying that Mocara doesnīt like chocolate. I actually donīt know about his candy preferrence, but to some ppl a win isnīt that important, especially not compared to morals and truth.

Truth over power

I had an ocasion where I pissed off my oponent.
It was battlemania & a blind map so did not know about the doungeon or necromancer castle trick I picked castle & he had doungeon.
By month 2 I believe he had about 5 more black dragons then I had angels & a good army, I had no spell & knew I was going to lose, so I tried a last resort.
I waited below the path whrer the library is & I had ex logistics with gloves.
It worked his main & a scout came by killed the black dragons & main went right & his scout mid below, he did not see me.
My chance to blow through & take his castle.
He threw a fit & said lets finish this I have to go soon & I said till day one I have chain lightning & built his artifact merchant & got pebdant of negativity.
I had to wait till day 2 to get it yes.
So we fought day 2 instead of 1 & I won easily.
He said I was not honerable but I gave him the favor for meeting & i'm not going to give up a game for a loss.

Vesuvius is right no compromises, I have to learn that since I'm usually persuaded to doing things & losing yes.

Well Aculias.

You know about this guy already.

It was the same guy who dropped on you when you got +5 angels on Giant War last week.

And refused to make any kinds of ammends.

Dropped during HIS turn and didn't save.

He also did that last night when he lost a battle.

This time he said "Sorry power failure."

It was funny because he never even signed in and out of the zone room.

I cannot wait til he gets caught and booted.

It's amazing with as much as he cheats that he cannot win a few games.

I have never really made a deal thats gone bad like these..

But I have on occasion arrived at opponents a little early for their liking.. ie: area not clear, utopia not done, army not bought, main not home, ect...

And if I feel that it will be a blowout I don't mind sitting and waiting around for them to "clean-up"
And usually give them a time frame to complete there side

This almost blew up in my face once.. as I could have stomped hero, castle, in or out easily when I arrived.  But deciding to be nice allowed a few days..

These few days took us to day 1 him red.. and so he bought out town and and sat there. I wasn't really paying any attention anymore.. and he says ok I am ready and I attacked.

Well I won that game barely I think I had 3 energy eles left at the end

I think that some ppl must start taking this for what it is: a game. I play this game for fun, when i have nothing else to do its fun just to start up zone and try to find a game. And if i dont have the time for a game it can be nice just to chat around alittle. What i dont understand is why some ppl take this so seriously, so what if you lose a few games. So what if u get a lower rank and a "worser" drag next to your name. Who cares? Is that really worth cheating for?

Im a very competetive person, i hate to lose. I hate to lose when it matters, I hate to be that guy that missed a great scoring oppurtunity with 2 minutes left so we lost that football game. I hate to let my teammates down. But i will get over it and i know they will too. Because we play football because we like it, its fun. If i get a similiar scoring oppurtunity next game and i know that if i use my hand i will score ill take my chances and not do it again. If i did i might be "the hero of the day" at our soccer club but i will always know i didnt deserve it, i didnt play fair for it. I would have cheated. There will always be more games, and maybe i might just score then and do it w/o using my hand. Do it by fairplay. That way i would be proud of it.

As for heroes3&TOH i know that will wont make it even near the top, i dont have the time or skills for it. But i really enjoy playing this game, doesnt matter if i win or lose as long as my opponent had fun too. That to me is more important then a high rank.

/Stefan

well seems to be a new kind of playing is beeing created here. The guy u mean attila just asked me today if i wanna play C+C and we meet day 7 and battle it out and whoever wins the bettle wins the game.

i told him what a sick rule and if he don't has enuff time for a complete game maybe homm is the wrong game for him.

Well i dont know if u did , but attila if u agreed to the rule no matter how dumb the rule is u should  be honest and report your loss.

just my opinion

unfortunatly

this is sad and there are lots of players like these who need to put a cap on the game. I know when my opponent says he has to go and i am on my way to attacking him i get a little annoyed. I have also been fooled by the your so strong and your stats are much better routine to attack a person in the castle, little did i know he had recanters/pendantant of negativity/air orb/lightning(800dam) whereas i didn't even have lightning or ice bolt and shackles. Needless to say guy kills my catapult then stays in castle till i have 5 ceberi left and finally comes out.

Its a game and thats part of the strategy to annoy your opponent to attack prematurely

Yeah thatīs the strategy to use if your goal is to make the other players hate you. I should post my experience with ingame deals here but Iīm to annoyed with it to do so.

I think strategy has no place in the chat. The chat is above and beyond the gameplay.

lame tactics

...or more bad behaviour..

...recently i noted that some players are doin a new lame tactic to get points or to at least not loose points. If they feel like loosing they extend their turns to endless....

i dunno what they do but on 2 minutes turns they give u at least 2 times 20 minutes warning and ull still have to wait for turn. I dunno what they do in the meanwhile (guess staying in fight to some laundry, ioning, vacuum cleaning, phone call and so on...) but if they dont get a negative reaction on this (i just watch some tv in the meanwhile)..they start to trash talk u. Normally i would immediately end this crap..but as it takes places so often recently i dont let them go away with it.

If u do the mistake and say: Ok that enough i go now; the answer is easy to guess: Ok then report loss. Dont do the mistake and say: Nah i go now and u can report what u want. Then they just dont report anything then and get away without loosing. Once more: normally i dont care but recently it happen to often.

So i just keep this annoying goin and make saves each turn even if it takes hours. In the end they report losses and i asked them if it was worth to be unpolite and wasting our both time (well i looked a good movie during turns so no waste on my side).

In the past i let them all get away with everything..Now i say NOWAY..thats the only way to keep this guys out of the games and ranks as they are soooo eager to get them.

All these cheaters, droppers in the high ranks i wanna say something: YOU ARE SO PROUD OF YOUR RANKS AND POINTS, BUT THE TRUTH IS U GOT THEM UNHONORABLY AND THEREFORE THEY MEAN NOTHIN!!

Well..lol..its only a game so even if u dont cheat points and ranks mean nothing...but some players just dont get it.

Ive fun with this game ..and thats the only thing which is worth..and where is the fun in a unhonorable undeserved win?

See u in the Zone
