The Empire of the World IV, in test
New sequel, this time you play as Commodus on evil side, while Maximus waits for you in last standing town. Map is done, now I am testing it, will take a while because it needs about 36 months to complete. It is 252x252 size and is done in regular editor, with only very few objects addition (15-20), mainly Astaroth objects.
I few previews:
4 specialties possible at start:
Logistic
Estates
Sorcery
Master of Devils
Following your choice, map will play differently. All the heroes will start with the chosen specialty. Each specialty has its specific objects on map, for bonuses, quests and so on.
Menu of player:
HELP
Magic Menu:
-spells power will change regardless the research you invest. Each school of magic offers an unique bonus once you reach a certain upgrade level in that area. Some spells were changed to provide long term bonus, as bless, curse, weakness, prayer, precision, counterstrike. They add stats as long as they stay applied, but lose their mass version. Slow can be improved by sorcerers specialist up to -4 (cumulate with regular effect).
BONUS:
Water: free movement on water
Air: +100% health
Fire: cast twice/turn
Earth: spoils of war from battles
Search for Seer huts and Border Gates locations
Army Menu:
Improve stats for a mithril price:
From this menu, you have the possibility to open abilities menu:
Map Features:
Magic Nodes, air/earth/water/fire:
Free upgrades for all magic schools, visitable once/month
The Cosmos nodes will upgrade all schools at once.
Commodus chest-guard of Triumph
Artefact combo, available through a long quest.
New button in Hero screen
Train your creatures to ACE, as experience can not be gained from battle:
AI features:
Every week, all AI creatures will be granted with a random hatred ability vs one of your creatures. It will be reseted every week, to make sure all battles are winnable. AI creatures receive a monthly bonus in all stats, longer the game, stronger they are. A few invaders will come annoy you at specific moments, every of them is a specialist in same destructive area (Tazar, Hack, Solmyr, Xeron etc)
Blind and force field are NOT available in this map, due to the race choice (Inferno). But you can upgrade hypnotize .
All creatures banks will re-spawn every 10 days, and if already visited, guards and reward x 2. There are hundreds of objects with random features, as Mithril market, Cave of Gods, and many others, the list is long. All has been tested to give gradual satisfaction while AI is still challenging.
A few map previews, made with HD mod:

Oh man, you did it!
Looks amazing, I like this random style and infinite exploration.
Unfortunatelly, I already have too many things to play, but not much time. Maybe in February.

Yes I miss in SoD the no creature spawn/no plague, therefore can screw most of maps. SoD also lacks the possibility to keep AI army slots unchanged, so having interesting and various battles for such map size is not likely. If you give AI 7 stacks of 3000 dragons, he will pack them (provoking crash also btw), so you can't win. In WoG I force him to keep in 7 stacks.
This one is made SoD style, dialogs are only for bluff. Basically you improve your spells and creature stats as you would with primary stats, but over 100. As AI growth follows, it's just a longer game.
As you can't develop your hero endlessly (at 20% of map completion your main is already level 53 for example), you can develop creatures.
Hero level will stop at 100.
Couple of spells changes:
Curse: single target, lowers stack damage by 1-5% every turn the spells stays applied (all AI heroes have expert dispel or cure to counter)
Bless: single target, increase the stack damage by 1-5% every turn it stays applied.
Precision: increase the stack damage by 10-100% as long as it stays applied
Prayer: mass spell, increase attack and defense by 1-5% every turn
Earthquake: at maximum upgrade, it blows all walls in one hit, except the last turret, seems not possible more. But if you have ballistic, means on first turn all is down.
Weakness: single target, lowers attack/defense by 1-5% every turn
Frenzy: lowers the targeted stack health by 50%. Once per battle of course.
Fire shield: mass spell
Counterstrike: can be upgraded up to 8 retals
Forgetfulness: regular + stack lose half ammo
Sorrow: upgrade up to -6 morale
Slow: up to -4 (cumulative with regular), available only for sorcerer faction.

A bit more infos about specialties. All your heroes will start with, and each has a bunch of special objects on map to get bonuses from.
Hell barons have stats doubled, Cornucopia gives 10 of each res every day.

The IDEA is GREAT.
But where IS the download???
Or are we supposed to wait for another endless time until we get it???
I hate when people ADVERTISE things that aren't yet ready.
This was so frustrating with all those "new towns" that ended up as NOTHING...
GRRR..!!!
Since this one is IV, are there any I-III ready ones???
And are they worth playing???
Thanks.

Hm... you're a person who can read but can't understand.
1. Map is in testing. All heroes maps need testing. It's obvious.
2. Map is in testing, so it is ready.
3. It's not add-on, it's single map - like any else Salamandre does. It's obvious for any users at this forum.
4. It's not "new town" only single map with new graphics and objects (known earlier at forum).
5. People who played earlier Salamendre's maps know why this map called "IV"
So sometimes is worth reading other topics than 'new towns'.

I could rather say the same about you...
1. I was asking where/if there is a download that _I_ can use.
I'm still asking, btw.
2. Advertising annoyance applies to ANYTHING, regardless of the subject.
3. I never said it was a town, I just compared those two as being advertised to annoy me.
4. I didn't ask WHY this one is IV, I asked for a link to any previous versions I could actually download and play already now.
5. It's "Salamandre", now you tell me, who can't READ...
6. Quick to be rude is typically the one who is the most clueless.

I am month 8 and the creature banks around the first town take half hour to take each. But worth the reward, both from spoils of war (calculated on health base) and from CB itself.
Cyclops stockpile and imaps cache are already at maximum size, dragon utopia not yet, delayed it for a while.
Casting twice already enabled, but prices now are very high.

I unlocked all bonuses except water one. The problem is we need to make a choice, as all towns on map can't be entered unless we convert them to infernos. And the price doubles for each converted town.
I have 5 inferno towns and 6 I can't use yet. Mithril comes very slowly, and the mithril market is reachable only later. But if we spend mithril on towns (growth) we don't have it for creature stats, very expensive. So, more creatures or better ones?

Now YOU were rude.
OK, I got the point that people like to brag about unfinished works here.
Whatever.
I spend too much time on Civfanatics, where the first thing people do - is upload a beta for others to try.
Even if FAR from ready.
So I was expecting the same here.
And forgot that it's the WRONG site to expect lots of FINISHED works...
Anyways, thanks for the links.
I might try them.
Good luck and let there be peace.

Well, you certainly have a point. Usually posting screenshots and describing features of a new mod means a desire to receive some positive feedback. Even if you truly believe that you just want people to share some ideas about your project or criticize you at some point, it's usually about perking up development.
But there's nothing wrong in it. Movies are preceded by numerous trailers and interviews. There's always lots of information about a popular game to be released in the near future, we can easily play them in our minds before they're actually released. Feedback, reaction, advertising are very important.
Of course, there are people who started a great number of projects and finished none of them, they just live for teasing the whole community. But I can't agree with you that we have here many of those. Usually our guys lack time, resources, and experience, and they start those topics to make sure that there's someone who supports them while they sacrifice a bit of their everyday life. Just give them what they need - post a "WHOA! Waiting for this soooo much!" post - and may be a month later you'll find the links you want so bad.
It's a bit funny that I leave these thoughts in Salamandre's topic, who proved to be a "fail-safe" mapmaker.

I'll just repeat again:
It's mostly civfanatics's fault - I got too used to beta-testing vs waiting forever while looking at fancy screenshots.
And, YES, most PROJECTS here do get FROZEN...
Sorry.
