Is there a difference between standard starting armies? (hota)

Is there significiant difference between the starting (standard) armies, and how would you rank those armies in general? Would autocombat tournament tell us everything, or is there more than meets the eye?

And since some heroes get their starting armies "modified" (3 stacks of trogs, 2 stacks of elves...), I would mostly focus on the "standard" starting armies, eg those that have 3 different creatures in them in normal games (no campaign)
I typed Hota in the title, since things are bit different there, but obviously we can talk about SoD, too.

Some questions for helping the discussion, if you don't feel about just ranking them:
1) Which army would be the best?
2) ...And which one would be worst?
3) Which one would be most welcome off-faction army (for the start of the game)?
4) Should there be some re-balancing between the armies?
5) Even if certain town has weaker/stronger starting army, is it a deal breaker for overall town balance?
