I do think that the DLC is a bit over priced, but that being said, I am impressed by the work that the new company is doing with the game in general. We have regular patch releases, the game is getting Town Screens, the game is getting more bug fixes, actual integration with online and offline saves, the game is actually getting balanced. So when it is all said and done I don't have a huge issue with throwing a little bit of cash for some extra game content, especially when there HAVE been regular maps released with the patches. I generally like how Ubisoft has been handling the series in the last couple of months, and patch 1.5 should be a huge step towards a balanced, playable, fun game. With all of this in mind, I will probably eventually purchase the DLC.

I come from a land where they charge 10 euroes for cosmetic features (on an otherwise free game.) I think plenty of youse got quite a sense of entitlement. This isn't like the oblivion horse armour dlc, I reckon.

Key word there is: with an already free game. You download a free game and then fork over some cash with some extra features and when it's said and done it can still turn out to be a reasonable deal.

Any DLCs I've seen are generally a rip-off in terms of the amount of content they offer when compared to the amount of content offered with either an expansion or a sequel. H6 isn't uniquely guilty of this; it's simply another addition to an already common trend. But I think that's the idea: the developers don't expect the DLCs to bring in as many buyers as the game itself or the expansion. It's something that will appeal to the most pleased & avid of fans and the rest of us will shrug it off.

Yah, but anyway I still think we should wait and see for what the dlc has to offer. Didn't it promise like 10 more hours of gameplay or so? Isn't that a lot in today's gaming market(, excluding all competitive multiplayer games)? I think a euro/ hour is totally reasonable, if you liked these games. Especially, since tons of games are more in line of asking 5 euro/ hour, anyway.

And like the great Joe Abercrombie once said, you gotta be realistic about these things. You can't expect them to deliver content that has been proven unpopular and unloved for free. They're a company. They need to make money, in order to make this stuff. I'm not saying, "buy this," but I find statements like these:
Quote:
To be honest, I even find it disgusting that after a huge letdown they still want to milk money in such an outrageous way.

Absolutely unbearable.

EDIT: QED at post below. Where does this sense of entitlement come from?

Voted no. I find it rather disgusting to release a DLC (for 10 euros, no less) before the base game is completely patched. The content is also insufficient.

Dagoth, I think the problem is that the base game isn't even fixed yet (still has bugs/ balance issues) and charging for a DLC with a former hero just seems like Ubisoft is trying to milk the franchise.

Speaking for my own experience, in past Heroes game I have spent an irresponsible and uncounted amount of time just playing single player maps by myself that were unrelated to the campaign.

The common criticism of the game right now - setting aside complaints about technical issues - is that it doesn't have as much re-playability to it, and I don't think the originally small # of maps in the game even had too much to do with it. I would say the two biggest culprits are:

1) The skill system.

2) 5 factions.

Now that you can handpick your skills, you can get the exact build you want every and any game. Less random means less variety in games, which means less replayability.

The small # of factions goes along with that. Fewer possible combinations means less variety from game to game, which means people get bored with it faster. I'd be far more open to forking over some money - even if I felt it was a rip-off amount - for a new faction than I would for a new campaign.

@BB
I do not think 5 factions is that few.
But if yo ask me why do I don't play single games as much as I did with older heroes is:

1: Skill system
2: Boaring Economy system
3: Creaturpool and Townconversion, Two features that should have been made very differently

A new campaigne is actually one of the features that can make me come back to the game.

I relly miss the economy diversity of older heroes games in Heroes VI

As said before, am WILL buy this DLC.
Mainly because of Town Screens return..
As for the DLC itself, i am not sure what to expect..
If there will be for example
new neutrals,
new boss,
decent campaign,
good story,
interesting mapS (and yes its several of them, not one)
then i think its Worth Buying!
for me personally i enjoyed the most campaigns of HoMM4,
which in my opinion were just INCREDIBLE,
inspite of balance and other issues that the game had..

Just to clarify: You don't need to buy the DLC to get the Townscreens. The Townscreens will come with patch 1.5 which will be available for free for anybody who owns the vanilla game.

I voted yes, mainly because I am curious and a sucker for spending money.

Although, I think Ubibic should not be charging money for this. The only time they should charge money is if the product hit the shelves at game stores (like expansion packs). Otherwise they are just showing that they are greedy, capitalist pigs wanting to milk money from all of us faithful fans.

Then again, maybe they need to give Limbic more unbudgeted money to fix Heroes 6 so this is one way of doing it...

I would say this is where you see the difference between
Official and Fan made.
A fan does not work on the game because he wants mone. But because he likes the game. On the other hand if you make the game as a living you need money to live from.

I think anybody who works on a larger fansite or international forum once had in mind "I would like some evaluation for all those things I have done"

I'm not too tight on money, and I will buy it on the pathetic hope that the series will keep going regardless of how bad it looks. I typically keep buying a series up to and including the bad one and stop after that, and I don't consider heroes 6 to be that bad.

I can understand and believe that most people wont be buying it.

@Dagoth: The main problem with this DLC as I see it, is that it will be released too soon. I'm just as much a HoMM fan as anyone here, but ever since preordering it, I played 30-40 minutes tops, because put plainly, H6 is unfinished, chock full of bugs, and is missing essential features(RMG, sim turns, proper skill system, correctly implemented heroes etc.) If Limsoft wants additional purchases, they should first convince me that H6 is now a game worth playing, which currently it isn't. I'm not saying it never will be -for all we know a Tote-like upheaval could be just around the corner- but they need to devote time and effort to it first. If there ever comes a time when I come down with one-more-mine syndrome again, I will of course purchase all available expansions, DLCs, what have You. Until then, Limsoft can keep working on a game Ubihole botched.

I think people are being WAY to cynical and don't really get how game development works.

First off, there aren't a "ton" of bugs anymore. There are hardly any major bugs left. Sure, balance is off but its getting a big boost in the 1.5 patch which comes around at the same time as the DLC.

The thing is, they can solve bugs and balance the game while Marzhin makes new maps at the same time. That we now get spoiled with a DLC does not mean that they spend less time fixing bugs and balance. They can do that at the same time because the same people that are fixing bugs aren't the same people that are making the new campaign maps. I'd even bet on that right now, they're slowly progressing on the first expansion featuring one of the old factions. While at the same time releasing a DLC between that gap and fixing the game.

We are yet to see how well they will do. Saying that they will fix the balance is not the same as fixing the balance. They might as well give another point of Magic Defense to the Hell Hounds/Cerberi and declare that they are now godlike. Same applies to the other problematic creatures (Inferno, Necropolis, etc.).

@Xerox: I know that they can be working on multiple things at once, but they should wait until I try out the newest patch -which I hope will be a real improvement for a change (Town Screens at last! Yay! )- so that I can see for myself whether buying additional content is now a feasible investment or not, before releasing a DLC. With this timing, it just seems a desperate cashcow-milking attempt. By waiting a bit for players to catch up, they could use the DLC as a way of showing us how diligently they work to salvage the franchise, if both the patch and the DLC prove to be up to the standard of previous games.

PS: Of course I am cynical - I need notable improvements before Ubisoft can regain the trust they lost by wrecking H6. They won't fool me twice.
