Yeah the AI is seriously disappointing. The thing that you mentioned is only the tip of the iceberg. Although it's good from a strategic point of view (less casualties), some AI controlled units never use their special abilities for instance Dreamwalkers or upgraded Griffins. Also AI is annoying to the extreme. In battles it always chooses only one of your units for instance Griffins or Vestals and beats the hell out of it. And it seems to always know the number of your movement points. If you don't use something surprising like Town Portal, it's practically impossible the catch enemy heroes. And like I said before in the VARN scenario most of the AI controlled players didn't do nothing at all. I just hope that Limbic will do something about the mess that Black Hole left behind...

The "Elite Archer" achievment (win 25 battle without cloase combat) does not work.
Atleast not for Stronghold creatures.

You can win as many battles as you like, even whitout the hero's action, but the counter will stay at 0.

I don't know how, but I unlocked this achievement. I was playing a normal map and then it just clicked. I had the same problem as you, the progress bar didn't move in any way, a then, just by chance, it worked so it is possible... I was playing Heaven if I remember correctly.

The easiest way to get this achievement is to defeat enemy heroes which are without armies (so you have automatic victory when you attack them).

I know this and I have not used any of them. Not the Auto shoot, no traps, my hero did not move a finger for several battles. Hell I did not even give the oportunity for the Burning rage to trigger
No ability apart from the passive one that gives you an additional attack have been used. Several Battls were won Only with Centaurs and Goblins.

Moreover.. since the patche restarted all battle achivement counters I used an exploit on one map, where a stood for more then 75 rounds infront of the last castle of my enemy, killing his army-less heroes, to get the "Win 100 battles with your main hero" Achivemnet. During this, i have recieved the "Win 25 batlle using only melee combat" Achievment but not the "Range combat only" one. So this should more or les truly count as a Bug.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was this.
As you know, units can use their passive abilities when they are bilnded or time frozen, so another bug with passive abilities could happened.

Some more bugs...

Major bug:
18) Sometimes for no particular reason the game will FREEZE - cursor still moves and music keeps playing, but the screen stops redrawing.
Then you can only kill the process of the game from Task Manager, there is no other way to continue. Also, even if you try to switch to Windows, you can NOT use your main monitor (I have 2 monitors) - the game seems to have captured the mouse, as mouse cursor appears, but you can't click anywhere.
I assume if you have just one monitor, you may be screwed, as you can't even kill the game process via Task Manager, if you don't move the Task Manager window to 2nd monitor - so, you may have to restart the whole computer to continue.

19) Iron Elementals Cremation ability (that is triggered on them dying) does not work correctly.

20) When you lose an Arena battle, the text that appears says "Your hero is dead, you can revive him in a town with a Tavern", which is wrong - all Arena fights are test/mock fights (with no losses even if some troops die), and the hero is still right there in front of the Arena and is not dead.

I hope they'll fix Crag Hacks special ability bug (+1 crystal), because there isn't anything about it in the patch 1.5.2 description. And obvious bugs like this shows that the game testing by devs isn't quite what it should be. I mean, Crag Hack is the campaigns main hero for crying out loud!

Also, from time to time, the game crashes when in town screen mode. Well sorta. It kicks me to desktop. The game seems to work but I cannot go back to it so I have to forcefully close it...

AND, to make things worse, it messes up the game in such a way, that the next time I load a save (it doesn't matter which one) from the map on which the crash occurred, and start to play, when I click end turn, each time my enemy makes a move the game crashes infinitely at the same very moment. Talking about unplayable game . Things like that make me wanna throw this game to the dumpster...

EDIT: Those town screen crashes are starting to be a serious problem. Maybe it's something with my computer but I highly doubt it...

EDIT 2: This is really a small bug but I wonder if anyone noticed it: Mother Breeders spits out Breeder familiars when attacking, not the upgraded ones. Alas, a bug is a bug...

Since there are plenty of persistent bugs, please let me know which I missed. I wrote a list for the devs to make sure these at least are eliminated as soon as possible.

- Dual monitor + Alt-Tab bug ---> NOT FIXED.
Details of bug: Run game, start a mission.
Alt+Tab out of the game into Windows.
Switch back to game again.
Result: Cursor now goes to 2nd monitor if you move it to the right. So, you can only scroll to the right via the Right arrow key on the keyboard, or via the minimap, but not via the border mouse scroll.
Expected: Cursor to stay on the 1st/main monitor only, so that you can scroll to the right.

- Harpies still fail to return after attacking a unit with ice armour. I know they cannot return to their original tile but shouldn't they return to the one right in front of it, as if they had 1 less speed?
- Skills/spells scrollbar bug (which occurs when switching between All skills/Tears/Blood/Balanced ---> NOT FIXED.
Scrollbar should update per type of skills/spells selected, but does not.
- Archlich Special does not heal target friendly stack if the enemy stack dies (and sometimes even if it does not).
- Slow exit time - NOT fixed. Takes 20-30+ seconds to exit.
- Meditation spell restores much more mana (50%) than it is supposed to. (Description says 15%.) ---> NF
- Keyboard buttons W and D do not work if you are the defending hero. They work if you are the one attacking.
- Sometimes can not view enemy hero stats by right-clicking him/her in a battle.
- The magic dynasty weapons with the "element afinity" (first bonus) aren't giving this bonus properly:

will of urgash - "fire power" isn't giving the +5 to fire magic, just the -10% redution to fire spells.
thunder staff - "air affinity" - same (+5 to air)
staff of tides - "water affinity" - same (+5 to water)
soulreaver staff - "magic" - same (+5 to dark)
heartrending song - "light magic" - same (+5 to light)
I don't have batu's totem, neither staff of sar-aggreth, but I bet these 2 have the same bug.
- Cleave still works on retaliations. I bet baleful gaze still works on retaliations as well.
- Imperial griffin controlled by the AI will never use their dive.

Elit archer not countig for Stronghold.
Great general achievments do restart at the begining of each game.

Other:
Dreamwalkers and Upg. will never use their ability, niether have I ever see Lilim use their.

No, I've seen Lilims use their Seduce ability a couple of times (usually when blocked by melee attackers)...

Also:
- VARN Scenario AI Bug - on standard every enemy except Necropolis didn't build their cities, explore etc, they've just been idle...
- Crag Hack special ability bug (won't give you +1 crystal a week)
- The dynasty trait which reduces crystal cost for buildings does not work
- Jester Slippers won't give you +1 luck
- Another move with Cleave each time your unit destroys an Inferno summoning gate
- Inquisitor hero battle animations bug
- Sometimes the tactic ability misplaces your units (usually when bigger battlefields)
- Blazing Glory ability bug (units wont return to life after battle)
- Cannot read enemy hero description in siege battles
- Unit order mixing in town screens, also unit icon misplacement if you pick up a unit to change it's place (when clicking and holding the icon shifts away to the left)
- You can hire a heroes twin if you choose a standard (non campaign, special etc) Hero on normal map
- Crag Hack's model in battles does not have his custom face, only the default barbarian heroes face (happens with other campaign heroes also, for instance Kiril)
- Vendela (and probably couple other heroes) blood upgrade bug (her head is black, rest is standard in heroes overview screen)
- Sometimes the game crashes when it's AI turn
- Abyssal Worm (granted by adventure map building) in battle still has no animation when devouring unit, it just pops up from nowhere...

* Besides DreamWalker, AI will never use the Battle Griffin dive ability, although it uses the non-upgraded Griffin one.
* Taunt skill is too powerful - sometimes it reduces damage to 0.
Should only reduce to 99%, not 100% or more. Or maybe it should be nerfed more, so that it reduces damage to 80/75/70%.
* Sanctuary Campaign bug - although my 2nd hero has the 8-fold lotus ability, it can't be used in battle - does not appear in Spell book.

Not certain if this happens elsewhere, but when playing the 3rd Inferno Campaign map and while fighting underground, My Cerberi are extinguished.
While the model is correct, no fire particle-effects are shown and it looks brownish with black armour. This doesn't happen with any other models. And while it does look kinda cool, it's still a bug that should be fixed.

What error? I updated via GU.EXE, worked fine.
My game is the Russian version (non-Steam).

And it happens to my maniacs Demented as well now. Only they don't go brown, they go a deep red.

What videocard do you have - Intel/AMD/NVidia?
What videocard driver version number? What Windows OS version?
