Then we'll have to wait until Ubisoft release the official descriptions...or JJ/Elvin gives us some hints

Well maybe those felines live on Pao Islands, but were caught, then run off from the Menagerie  Additionaly, Panther Warriors use their skulls as decoration, thanks for reminding me that Black Panthers were already mentioned in the in-game lore...
Hmm, the BP's tail has a Dungeon-like purple tip. Will it rival the all-famous Manticore/Scorpicore penis-tail?

Good to see a neutral creature tying in with a faction's history:
The Orcs of the Pao islands speak of a legendary creature known as the Shadow Panther, bigger and fiercer than the already-formidable Pao Jaguar. Orcs that manage to kill one of these beasts become known as Panther Warriors. They are as rare and powerful as their name implies.

MM....Quite surprised that Ubi made such a brave desicion with this Neutral...Love it actually, I think it looks great. It will probably add to the game considerably. So it is tying nicely to Panther Warrior, being Elite it makes sense that Shadow Panther is a core, so there are less Panther Warriors then Shadow Panther.

So it's name is Shadow Panther not Black Panther? Way to tie a new unit (although neutral) with a new "shadowy" Dungeon faction

So they are rare ... but also common enough that all the Panther Warriors out there can have two Panther skulls attached to their claws.

Except that they don't. Jaguar Warriors have skulls on their hands. Panthers have stone heads.
Nobody ever said that Jaguars were rare or stone.

Well, Heroes franchise had always this "quantity" problem.
Dracon hunted the "Mythical Azure Dragon", yet in the final battle he faces a hundred of them.
Each description of a unit that has words like "rare" in them is a bit out of place, because you can have zounds of them in your army if you wait enough time/in-game months. Or maybe they are cloning them, who knows? The lore is there to add a bit of flavor, but you can't take those descriptions seriously...

Just look at the pretorian description.. Only a few chosen one at one day of the year can became members of this elite grupe.. yea right... you kill legions of them.
But still I would say that the panthers should have been elite.. just for the reason of this picture:

Amusingly, Kelthor has a tears face accessory  Btw there is a duel of champions tie in with shades. Remember Vein? He was a member of the Windswords mercenary group. He has made a brief appearance in the doc campaign if memory serves.

The Shadow-tainted Dark Elves, a persecuted people, exiled from their homeland, torn apart by internal strife. As heir to the throne of Queen Tuihdana, the hero Raelag can unite them and make them rise again as a proud and strong nation. Forging an alliance with the powers of Darkness, he will get the support of the almighty Black Dragons and elevate the Dark Elves as masters of deception, stealth and assassination!
The Necromancers of Heresh face a crisis that threatens their very existence as a magical disease is slowly destroying their Spider Goddess, the Mother Namtaru. The player will incarnate the vampire hero, Vein, a rogue Death Knight with a troubled past. After allying with a former mentor, Vein will discover the source of the disease is connected to the Dark Elves and the infamous Netherlord, Sandro. To thwart Sandro's plans, Vein will have to repair the corrupted memories of the Mother Namtaru and restore her godlike powers.
