It's not at what points, it's at what percentage. Points can go up and down, but when you have chain win streaks then your percentage goes up nicely (to get to next champion level).
I am on 50% progression to Champion III which seemed easy enoguh to get to....wondering if the last 50% will be difficult...
@RedEmp: Nice post on good decks and Masfar. Agree that chain casting belongs in Open only. A good event counter is Day of Sanctuary placing on opponent's creature on turn 6....

I'm on the same boat as Watcher. IDC about ranks anymoree, I just playe the game because it's fun for me. (Well more then Other online games I play right now)
I Still need help how to face decks based on Mass Rage. They look so stupid to face with anything but Inferno and Masfer

is focused mind in bs2? if yes go your Yukiko or Seria with 2/3 of them in deck.
EDIT: so I was checking yesterday to see who else got demoted, and one name caught my eye - Pawel999k is post patch a champ II, lol, I mean this guy is a monster of a player, played against him frequently in jp before the hon expansion and he absolutely wrecked face with Garant and Zouleika.

Yes, Focused Mind is in BS2, I use only one in my Seria because I had a lot of problems with Mass Rage decks.

I also just wanted to mention, that Masfar is quite difficult to get right...it's not that easy, I have been trying and it really is 50/50 depending on water spells in hand and how good your opponent is. So it's not as brain-dead as it seems, in other words, it's not an automatic win at turn 6...I must say though it's quite fun to play...
It's always good to have some events like Day of Sanc, blind arbiters or cosmic balance if you are Masfar angry...
Speaking on ranking:
It's actually quite good that swisses and weekly's don't affect MMR/elo, so can get those daily quest achievements for those dreaded factions one is not a pro with without losing points...I suppose though it's easy to say when one has 130 tickets  but then again focus on weekly's for these wins...

Hi Stevie and welcome...
Well mmdocking.com is a great site for information and resources, as well as ubi.com with duel of champions forum/ general discussion.
i would begin with the tutorials in game - build your deck [perhaps use mmdocking as a guide to strong decks] and test to see what works best for you.
There is a beginners guide [can anyone find this] which will be a good read for you. I'll search and see if i can post link ^^

Practice, learn the cards and the mechanics, and no matter what deck u play keep in mind that in the beginning accumulating cards & gameplay experience is way more important than going up the ladder.

Bad news for you is that fortress isn't yet in the game.
This is the best I could do in advice giving

Tutorial was balanced and informing, exactly as it should be. Gonna do the campaign first, I guess. Then Imma murder my competition. Oh, the joy. Good times.

im on 0% progression probably about 50% win rate so perhaps makes sense? had a night of pure frustration last night - just felt like game kept giving me bad draw after bad draw after bad draw after bad draw - i havent been annoyed in a long time with this game - but last night ended in rage quit

Go for an Inferno deck, it helped me climb quick in the early stages of playing.
