Isn't reading announcements basically being on the main page? I'd be more worried if it was reading this thread, for instance.

you didn't put one thing to account: bots have no emotions: they don't do anything such as revenge, i would be more worried about: how did the bot pass email notification?

why can it connect?
why is it disgraceful?
why did it even apear in the messenger?
why are most(if not all) values in the profile are null? default should be zero.

It can connect due to a bug.
Probably the default value for status is disgraceful.
Same bug for the connecting, most likely, or it's used in the HC code for testing purposes.
Values are set to their default value, it doesn't have a post count or quality count because it's not a registered member.
the date registered is 31st december 1969, probably at 23:59:59 too, aka, the second before the official start of time for computers (aka, registered date has default value set to either 0 or -1).

That's the page-loading bug in action. It's the same one that makes your page only view the HTML skeleton of the page. This bug makes it so some content isn't shown.

serious, but really only curious. when we first had bots, there were few, but now we have quite a large number; and why? do these bots take up bandwidth? to what purpose do they serve? what are they doing? collecting information? if so, to what end?
the amount of them is really what concerns me(though lightly). if they are gathering information... well, anyone can fill in the blanks. it's not like i have to spell anything out.
@svatzorn: what are you upset about, exactly? if it's a complaint about the community here in general, then i would recommend creating a thread about it(this one isn't for addressing the community on it's behavior, but addressing behavior on the website by non-human entities).

From my experience of being an admin in forums usually the bots are search engine bots, for the most part. Just collecting information to put up on google, yahoo etc. They're not harmful or anything. From what I've always known there has usually been this amount which isn't as bad as some other forums which might generate hundreds of the bots.

you don't find it worrisome that companies that supposedly serve the populace are taking an interest in your personal life? you think they do this to improve HOW they can serve you?
they sell your information to the highest bidder. take a second to think about, just WHY that is profitable.
what do you think happens with all that information? do you think it is used for the betterment of the common man?
or maybe, to further exploit them?

Well, I am a complete noob in Internet hidden side, but logically I would guess they serve for search engines, upload content from one site to another for faster search purposes, then looking for spyware in order to index safe sites, and ultimately, for marketing purpose, collect data about what you write, what you like and things like that. I am not hypocrite to the point of condemning the last activity, as it generates jobs and taxes as any legal activity, and until now we weren't too annoyed by.

There are one million things which could bother me, you, everyone.
Around me, everything now is changing at such speed I can hardly adapt and follow. I am still playing 15 years old games. Playing 400 years old music. Being annoyed by 2000 years old religions. Banging 25 years old girls.
But the point is, if you look around and you don't protect yourself from the things which actually HARM, physically or psychologically, and there are like one thousand of them, then you won't survive long. But if you start to be parano about EVERYTHING not being right around you, but which actually does not harm directly, then you can hang your self on the spot, because there are 1 million of such things.
So, no, I don't care about bots.
