| Poll Question: Regarding the Lineups

This was not a poll I had in mind when I started the feature showdown but the lineup is a very important aspect of the game. I want to determine how much the presence of an iconic unit can make or break someone's immersion. For that I have one question for you:

If the second lineup had the unicorn instead of the emerald warrior in elite tier, would you have voted it? For this question consider your actual vote irrelevant, whether it was strength of the forest, earth's perfect balance or sylanna's fury. Just consider the second lineup with the unicorns in them and tell me if you would have prefered it over the options we got.

You want a better question? A fair one? Here: If you were asked to vote a strategy without the units being decided in advance, which one would you have chosen?

That is indeed a better question, but to be honest a lot of things depend on the units.

I care about actual gameplay and unit concepts a lot, and no matter if Sylvan is offensive, defensive or balanced, I can adapt to it as I play all of the factions. However, I just can't stand Moonixes and I understand people who dislike Deer/Emerald Warrior/Blade Dancer/Whatever.
So in my case I can play Sylvan no matter what playstyle they have, but if they have Moonix as Champions, they might as well have one Champion unit, for me at least.

I agree. And I think the part about the poll in the Q&A is also out of line:

Quote:- This is such a hard choice, what should I vote?

Balance, theme, gameplay and individual units weigh differently on everyone's mind
But as far as balance goes, I would favour the second lineup. In core tier, you have a no-retaliation damage dealer in sprite which helps a lot early. In elite you have a guaranteed tank in treant, perfect for protecting your hunters and druids. In champion you have the choice between a walker dragon and a phoenix flyer which can lead to more diverse tactics. I hope I'm wrong but the first lineup seems a one-trick-pony being so focused on defense and tanking, not to mention a complete lack of flyers.

This is important. Fans, as a deciding factor for each unit, means we all have a weird say in how it goes and it just gets bogged down. If they just said:

 -This one focuses on defense
 -This focuses on mobility
 -This focuses on pure offense

then this vote probably wouldn't be as strange as it is now. Almost no one would vote for defense, as people have the idea that elves should have been fast attackers, which could really focus on speed or attack, but not defense.

The only thing this vote was good for was to stir attention and hype. Otherwise, the vote feels meaningless, as now you are going to have basically 2/3's the people voting dislike the vote.

I guess to answer your question, Elvin, I'd go for it. I don't like Deer, I disliked the old Blade Dancer (if the new one is much better designed, i'd think about it), and the Emerald Warrior supposedly won't be a rider, and certainly not a pegasus (which was what I was hoping for) and I still like Root Pythons over having both Dryads and pixies, no matter how different they might be. But really, switching the warrior for the unicorn, besides aiding nostalgia, is just making what I like about Balance (its mobility) and lowering it to a more defensive state, which they already have enough of in that line up (3 required entanglers, one of which is a tanky treant, along with a tough Dragon and a self-rezzing Phoenix) It'd make Sylvan more defensive, and therefore less of that hit and run kinda guys. Besides, if they get Blinding attack like they almost always had, that'd be ANOTHER form of entanglement in a line up that already has 3 mandatory trapping units, and all 3 elites would be able to stop enemies in their tracks. It might feel like over-kill.

An even better one: Which faction would you vote if you wouldn't know the line-ups tactics and you had to figure it out just by looking at the units ?

| Honestly this overblown crusade against "defensive" play style will result in a boring line-up and disappointment among people. I think there is no question what line-up would win if there was no play style description. It's a big error on devs side to label them like that when play style wasn't even the question for Sylvan.

| @Stevie & Brukernavn
It's just a question. It cannot influence someone's vote as the lineup I mentioned does not exist. I have already mentioned the purpose of this poll's purpose: To see how much the presence of an iconic unit can affect your perception of the lineup.

The sole reason this question mentions the second lineup is simple: The unicorn is one of the most iconic sylvan creatures, having appeared in every single heroes game. It's not the same as asking if people would have voted strength of the forest if it had the phoenix in it because not everyone agrees that it belongs in sylvan.

That part in the FAQ is there as a reminder that we should not overlook the balance of a lineup. I have seen plenty of people who are voting a creature and not a lineup. I do not support phoenix lovers any more than I support unicorn lovers but I fear this vote has turned into a popularity contest. Not entirely but still..

| I would have... considered it.
To be honest, I just rabidly voted for whichever line-up had the unicorns, but if BOTH Strength and Balance had them, I would actually have to factor cognitive thought into my decision.

I still maintain that having the fans decide on EVERYTHING is really, really stupid. It may be borne from my rabid fandom for reality television, but i've seen too many public votes go awry to put any actual trust in them anymore. Audiences tend to vote for silly things, case in point my own vote for Strength ONLY because it has unis. I strongly doubt i'm the only one who reasoned this way.

I suppose it's fair to conduct polls for the factions, but the line-ups are what directly influences gameplay. They're best left for the game designers to implement, rather than taking a gamble with an uninformed audience.

| Yes. Because than, the faction would have the most divers units from all 3 options, including the most iconic ones like unicorn, phoenix, pixie making it the most perfect line up from them all. |

| Yes, I would have liked Balance better if it had Unicorn.
I'm curious about the Emerald Knight, but since we have almost zero info about what this unit will be (apart from it being some un-mounted melee elf unit), it's kind of hard to say whether it's worthy of elite tier, even more so when it takes the place of a very iconic unit of the game as well as this specific faction. I would have taken the Emerald Knight as a core unit instead of the stupid Snake any day of the week!

| No The problem in my eyes is not the new vs old, Iconic vs Inovative.. The problem is the Pheonyx a creature that should not be in sylvan. Whith the choice of adding it into the line-up Ubi fliped off their own world. And as a person who tried to deffend their work, this just feels likea kick under the waistline..

 Their I said it.

It was said that the gameplay will not change much, and I personaly don't want each faction to have a Flying champ. But the worst is the fact that Ubie does not stand to it's own work.

| I would have considered Balance if it had a Unicorn in it. And I still would have voted Strenght because creature-wise it's the best. I want both the Emerald Knight and the Unicorn in the Elite tier, along with Druids.
And because I'd rather have Dryads & Snakes over Dryads & Pixies or Pixies and Snakes. I just don't like Pixies. But having both Dryads and Pixies seems to be the worst, having 2 humanoid plants.
And Treants are too tough, IMO, to be anything but Champions. So either have them as Champions or not at all.

 P.S.
I'm gone one day and this is what happens? The poll takes a major swing and the worst of the lineups seems to have a chance at winning at the expense of the best.
