No don't do that!!!

I think in a certain way you are right people who play more and discuss more about strategy in forum are more experimented and their opinion should be taken in consideration.

But i agree also that your opinion is not better than another because of that (but is not what you have said).

Opinions are here to be debated is no more than that.

Don't stop posting just because one HC' members disagree with you!

Take for example (if you follow a bit the forum) the battle between Stevie and JollyJoker!!

I don't dislike any of those Towns, lol.

If we went into specific games then maybe, but as a whole? no way, not even Inferno...

i like every faction.. but i have to choose one, i ll go with sylvan. and i dont get hate againts inferno. they had bad gameplay thats all, imho, they got the best concept art in h6.

Less "hate" against Inferno and more "least liked" compared to the rest on an overall series-wide level. I have stated my reasons why, although I will say that the latest instalment was a good step forward for them.

@cleglaw

While I do expect most people here to be generally more knowledgeable in the series than the average fan, an opinion can only be objective by nature That said, more knowledge and experience can give one more insights which I believe is what you were trying to say?

I have a different favorite faction i each game, based on their gameplay, feeling and general designe. Their are some factions, like Academy or Inferno, I never felt a connection to, but most factions have a atleast one good memory in my mind.

Probably because Academy and Inferno are the trickiest to play. Which is exactly why they both are in my top 3.

It means that for the billionth time we need to state the obvious:

Heroes community does not represent the majority of heroes players throughout the word!!!!!!!

The fact that most of the people HERE don't like inferno, does not mean that inferno is hopeless in the upcoming poll!!!!!!(if that poll includes inferno at all).

Hmmm, not necessarily true. Is there any reason to believe that we should not pose a representative subset of the total player base? That is, do you have any qualified reason to believe that the composition of the votes here will vary significantly from the opinions of the entire population - like, for some reason, Heroes Community attracts Inferno haters more than other players?

We could pose as a representative subset of the total player base, when more than 30 (random number) persons actually vote for the polls here.
Our forum polls, have very few votes so we can safely say we represent a big chunk of the players of heroes.
Yes the composition of voters here will be significally different in some cases, since lots of people aren't members of this forum and lots of people from this forum didn't vote in the forum polls about the least liked factions.
Am I saying smth farfetched?(i am actually asking because i am confused)

There are a lot of lurkers here, who vote in the polls, but don't necessarily write in the threads. The Dwarf/Elf faction vote got 100+ votes on this site, and was pretty close to the official poll result. For me that's an indication that we pose a representative sample of all Heroes fans.

The lineup-poll might be misleading, since you can't change your vote here, while many actually did on the official poll. And then you have the "cheating", which we might know the effect of tomorrow.

yes but when i see 49 votes for this thread and almost 70 on another, nomatter the actual numbers of lurkers, we can't say that those 49(or 70) persons are the majority of the whole gaming world that plays this game!!! It's crazy!!!

Nobody is saying they are a majority, but they could be a representative sample of the whole player base. Statistically, you could then use polls of this size to estimate what the the majority of players want.

I can't say that there are factions that I wouldn't touch with a 10-foot-pole, but of all the factions present, there are some that I dislike and some that I like. The difference can't be expressed in terms of "hate" or "love" .

I do favor Haven, Academy and since a relative short period in my HoMM career, also Stronghold. Inferno and Necropolis appeal less to me, with Inferno drawing the shortest of the two short straws.

Inferno. I don't dislike the concept of Inferno, I just don't think they've been executed very well. I've only played 3, 5 and 6, but I played the crap out of them.

I've played certain factions (necropolis h3 and h5 when you could have 2000 skeleton archers lol, stronghold and dungeon h5, stronghold h6) that after playing them I really looked forward to the next time I got to play with them. Inferno has never done that for me, really could be a cool faction though if it was delivered differenty.

Your post is a bit confusing - I think you forgot a "don't" as I added above?

Anyway, even though we are not that many members, and many members are not here, that doesn't necessarily mean we can't be a representative subsample as also linked above. Certainly, if we had more voters results would be less vulnerable to random fluctuations, but whether we have a bias for something specific is a different story.

To try to explain what I mean, if this forum had been, say, a forum dedicated only to Heroes 2 players, one could argue that there's a good reason to assume that members would have a bias against Inferno as this faction wasn't in H2. Similarly if this had been a forum only for religious members. A Japanese forum might have a bias for a faction like Sanctuary because this faction has strong influence of their culture.

The easy thing about computer gamers is that they are a, comparatively at least, homogeneous group of people. Since this is a gaming forum, there's reasonable justification for assuming that members here pose an (arguably quite small) subset of target audience and not, say, a completely different population. We also see that members here are spread fairly well over both players who started way back with H1 and H2, a lot of players who started with H3, and some players who started later. I also think that'll match the overall fan base fairly well. We also have members from all over the world. So while I do agree that vote numbers are too small to give the results real statistical significance, I also don't see any reason to assume any strong bias of the member group here.

whoops i did forget that
I was talking more statistically. Here the polls show inferno as a least favored faction. Yet if an official poll included inferno, we can't claim that it will fail because of our poll showing otherwise, or that if it's winning, there is cheating involved. We don't have this kind of power (yet).
Now if someone decided to look our way he/she could make some safe conclusions about the overall direction of the players' taste about the game in general, but still there will be a lot of crucial things he/she would miss, because not every player in the world is a member of this forum. And we can't say that our polls here show this so, this thing represent the whole fanbase. We simply do not have the numbers.
Even if we are a well assembled diverse group of fans, we still aren't that much compared to the whole fanbase. We simply aren't.
