First Strike is a SPELL in HoMM 4, that is, an active ability, except for Halberdiers who have First Strike. As a spell it's pretty brilliant since the natural state of things is that everyone hurts each other as best as possible.

You cannot ignore it if it charges at you and diminishes your troops as white tigers in H4 used to do... or what I used to do.

First strike worked fine with simulatenous retaliation involved. I highly doubt it would work with the current system. Of course, proactive retaliation sounds a nice addition but I fear we lost the units it ultimately should belong to - the griffins.

It doesn't change the fact that it's a spell or a creature ability, but not a passive skill/ability the hero can learn in order to make it a passive ability for the whole army : it's a no-brainer to pick, and as such not good.

What you need, is a selection of relevant ACTIVE abilities to make a battle interesting and your hero actions decisive. If creatures and/or hero have too many battle relevant PASSIVE abilities (which could be seen as pre-combat active abilities, that is, spells already cast when the battle starts), your actual decisions in battle become that much more irrelevant.

This is the worst haven-line-up ever made.

The boring female units are really, really boring and non-inspired, and so are the other units.

I hate this town even more now.

First let me say without griffin it looks like the line up returned to H2 roots.

Secondly I didn't like the idea that there are cleaving/parrying/swift striking units.I mean you are wasting 3 creature slots just  for some soldier archtypes.

There is no taste in the line up,its boring.The line up apart from using some magic doesn't seem like they are in the realities of the highly magical world they are in.Sorry but they look like french medival troops peppered with some magic :/

so... do you like neon horses? IMO a Haven/Castle town should look medieval, also I think it's good that it ain't over-fantasized , that's the faction's theme afterall

I assume you like quantity over quality.

Also you are forgeting older games from the series did not have this many abilities and it was not a problem for players.

I can just say one thing, as there is only one female unit how can there be more female units?
Or you are implying that sentinels, crossbowmen, cavaliers, priests, landsknechts, angels and wolves are female?

Opinion of every person differs. You can't say whether someone has a taste or not by judging on just appreciation of new Haven look (which I really like). With such comment you're making a blind guess concerning someone's taste. This is just 17 renders. It isn't simply enough to decuce what are one's visual preferences.

Yes but in H4 Flyer and Ranged were also abilities and they still they managed to keep every unit at 3 abilities max.

I would strongly advise you to ignore the ranting from Rakshasa92. Every single of his posts is how H7 sucks and how he doesn't like anything from these factions and how H7 needs a lot more "cool" mythological creatures.
