Ah, from all these talking I actually missed Swamp Fortress so much that I am now going to play with it. Installed H3 again.

And yeah, as much as I like Ashan, I love H3 Fortress more. It was my second favourite town after Necro and the very first town I played (in H3). Oh all those reptiles... I mis them so much. Serpentfly in DoC is horrible.
But still, I don't know how you can compare cool swamp reptilian town and cool Japanese watery town. They're both good. Hydras rule.

I think I have a soft spot for swamp fortress as it was the faction I used to play as a kid with my best friend.

I know statistically it was far from a good faction, but I liked it for some reason.

Sanctuary was a concept that I liked... and then the lineup came and I didn't like it so much. I think it would've been much better if they had become the spiritual successor of swamp fortress, including lizardmen instead of the weird shark guard, basilisks as elite instead of spring spirits (aka let's recycle water elemental model and act like if we made a new unit), maybe throwing hydras there too (though they belong to Dungeon now). And I think the mermaids were one of the greatest HOMM6 unit and it was a pity they didn't put them in Sanctuary when lore was stablished for the inclussion and they were recycling a unit on the elite section instead of putting mermaids there...

3) *insert rant about how people need to get over the 3DO games here*

10 years have passed & they still haven't improved the ai.... It's like Ubi soft passes the project to rookies every year.

Imo, they should try using cel-shaded graphics instead of 3d cause that is when the series started to go downhill.

I like them both a lot. I could see the Swamp Fortress being an offshoot of the Sanctuary, kinda like Necropolis to Academy and Dungeon to Sylvan, although they don't need to be enemies. A group of Naga could have gotten lost or separated a long time ago during a campaign on the main land. They ended up wandering for a while until they found themselves in a swamp, which was the most hospitable habitat (for them) they'd found so far. They settled down for a rest. There they discovered the various ingredient creatures creatures of the swamp, rejected by outside societies. They decide to make a permanently residence there, forming an isolated nation out of the lizard people, gnolls, and other beasties there. The lineup child look something like this:

Core
Gnoll: Flail wielding hyena man. Powerful attacks, high health, slow speed, and low numbers.
Dragon Fly: Very fast, weak, very high numbers. A flying snake insect thing.
Lizard Man: Lizard men archers with poison arrows.

Elite
Basilisk: Giant six legged crocodile-lizard. Poisonous bite, can turn enemies to stone.
Swamp Witch: A Naga magic user. Can siphon health from from enemies into allies.
Skunk Ape: A huge, Bigfoot-like primate. Attacks with big ape hands, has an aura that lowers enemy defense and reduces healing (stink cloud). Looks a bit like an orangutan.

Champion
Naga Phaya: A huge, mutated Naga. Many arms, a few heads, all with monstrous faces . No legs. Can breath fire, attacks all adjacent enemies, no enemy retaliation, flanks with itself.
Gorgon: Giant, metallic bull creature.  Extremely high defense, chance to auto kill. Surrounded by snakes everywhere it goes that automatically attack any enemy it passes or stands near.

The art style should be generally southeast Asian/Pacific. They could use earth and water as their primary magic. Their racial ability (assuming they go back to H5 style racial abilities) could be some sort of battlefield control, flooding parts of the map, growing plants over others, and filling other areas with poisonous gases. The Naga should look very monstrous, no pretty human faces (females need to be monstrous too!).

Most assuredly Sanctuary. Swamp fortress was the only H3 town that I actually disliked.

I always felt like Sanctuary doesn't really belongs to Ashan. It was ripped straight from Japanese mythology and inserted into might and magic.

Hence I'm all for swamp returning.

Neither would I, in fact I would greatly encourage it. However I couldn't name any Louisiana Voodoo mythological Beasties.
And while I would indeed encourage the idea to simply put some of the Beasties of Old in there and I've been working to do exactly that in my own proposal, I wonder how you would envision such a thing.

See what you can find with west African mythology as Luisiana "voodoo culture" has it's roots there (sorta). While you are at it, I suggest looking up African ruins, like old Timbuktu. You might be surprised by what you find.

Well there are zombies, and I mean real, 'dead men brought back to life' zombies, not the half-rotted animated corpses we used to get (gods damn Romero for those third-rate pieces of crap that need humans to act like complete idiots to get anywhere), but those guys would be better in Necropolis.

Yep. And Papa Legba as an champion. Not that I would mind, though.

I would like Fortress, but based on South American/Mexican mythology + American modern myths.

Swamp Creatures, Feathered Snakes,... that kind of stuff.

There's still some chance that Ubisoft will mix the two towns into one. I mean, regardless if swamp or a pool/river whatever Sanctuary has, water is still the main theme.

This could be an awesome faction if they just dropped the annoying japanese theme.

Like both Fortress and Sanctuary. And I'm sure Ashan that seems to be a long-term universe for new "Might & Magic" products is able to implement these two factions simultaneously.
Sanctuary is my favourite Ashan faction, I really enjoy its Oriental style. To my mind, the only problem this faction has is its racial ability, "Honour". Absolutely boring. I think it should be replaced with mantras in the future instalments.
Fortress (let's name it Asylum in Ashan) would also be very nice. We already have several creatures fitting this theme: kappa, serpent fly, lizard man, medusa, hydra. Such units as naiad (the left one) and cipactli are OK too, IMO. Voodoo magic can be introduced as its racial ability.
Hope one day we'll see both these factions listed here.

I didn't like Sanctuary because it was too japanese like, and several of the units' design were plain boring

One spirit, second spirit and so on.

I guess mono colours helped that dislike as well, ( dominant blue/green ).

And not even mentioning that they were too lazy about unit names... some units had the same name as their upgraded version, but upgraded version's name was on Japanese while unupgraded was on English if I remember correctly, so it was "different". Now that was just horrible.

Well Swamp doesn't exist in Ashan and in my opinion, looking at how things stand currently, never will.
