*** H4 Map Council ***

Its time, to organize the 3-4 member team, that will become the Map Council.
http://www.toheroes.com/maps/h4maps/mc.html
This job is serious, and requires that these volunteer be available to do their reviews for 6 months in the least.  Take note that these members must have good mapmaking experience, and can make maps, but must devote their time more to the review of maps others have made than their own.

Maps will be reviewed on gameplay, balance & quality, and all must also pass in aesthetics.  Maps get voted on, and there needs to be at least 2/3 or 3/4 of the council who accept it before it gets posted on the maps page.  The map, if not acceptable, is rejected or asked to be changed, playtested more, make use of elevated terrain etc...

Also, the map council will then rate the map, from 1-5 stars, averaged amongst the 3 or 4 members (must be unbiased and judicious).

Vesuvius does a final review of the accepted map before posting.

Also, there will be a maps database, of unaccepted maps, on a simple links page, which can still allow them to be posted, but just not on the ToH maps page, and with a warning, 'play for ToH at your own risk'.

Notice, like before, small maps will not be accepted for ToH gaming.

So we are looking for map council members now, serious veterans of ToH, with mapmaking skill/experience.   As soon as the group is formed, we can start reviewing maps (for I am actually getting some submitted to me already).

For now all playtesting will have to be in hot seat mode until we get the patch.

destro, jinxer, unicorn

Well mad_unicorn.... you were originally planned to be part of it, but not a problem, you can always submit maps.

Destro: Youre welcome to be part of the map council, you know the requirements, if youre up for it and will be 'hardcore', I will be happy to have you as part of the team.

Jinxer: You are more valuable in the subtournaments, since you are head volunteer... you could be in map council, but I think it would be too much work?  Just like prometheus, who is in honor council, I would not ask him to be in map council as well.

heh

Well i know i was originally opted for the part then i saw that others were as well. Now the post comes for a call to arms for map council so i took that as nothin was definate. I dont own it yet for technical reasons (stupid fricken gateway monitor cant even fix their own or trade it in so now we usin an old compac monitor from the dawn of time.) Which is fine we just dont see a reason to buy a monitor just for 1 game stupid gateway.

a kinda yes here

I'm quite neutral actually.  I'd like being on map council and all, but ...

I also want more time to make and modify my maps
The decorations are SO much more than H3 maps that ... well, it just takes a LOT longer to make a good map, not just one that functions well.

Which reminds me, I need to make a v1.1 for my H4 map "key to victory" ... need to make it better.

also, my vote goes to Jinxer and Destro.

Map council starts working in a few days

We need a 3rd member, spot is open... we need to start having the cd maps reviewed and set up for possible ToH use.

All this needs to be ready on homm4 toh opening, because if anyone's seen the new maps page, it will take some work to post them maps.

ah hell!  ok Ves, unless you find one more qualified (which I think are many), I'll be up for this map council

I looked at Jex's maps, havn't tested them yet.  I'll also take a look at the CD maps ... and see which ones can be easily modified for a good balance.

ok, here's my analysis / opinions for the CD maps which I find potential in:

maps that'll require not much modification for balancing / playability:
- conquest of 4 lakes
- dog days
- just another mine war

moderate modification required:
- boring's mountain
- the dragon's wrath

much modification required (but still has potential):
- maranthea's isle
- pretty clautrophobia
- unhappy times

to me the others seem like a long-shot to make ToH worthy.

Right now, I'm going to modify Dragon's Wrath.  It's the best looking, won't take much to balance, and has much potential.  However, it's a 3-player map plus 1 cpu, which are less often played.  I'll send it to ya when I finish it

LOL!

Thanks Ves

also, I finished the modification for the dragon's wrath.  Lots of balancing of resources and artifacts was required, that's about it.  So all I did was balance those, added extra random altars for each players (adding some spice), and I took out the possibility for opponents to warp into your territory.

I think it'll make a good 2 player map, a great 3-player map.  And since the cpu has a big advantage, it'll be a formidable opponent (even though adventuring AI sucks) because you can't conquer it without getting through 8 bone dragons ... and it can warp down to the middle (just like the other 3).

I'll send it to the other 2, see what they think, see if they feel like it needs more modification, etc..

Well..

TOnight I played

Played one of Jexs maps tonight...

Burnt:

The small map seems really good and very playable.  I played both sides 2 times, and found that in each I could about the same amount of clearance, building, expansion in the same time frame.

This map was alot of fun to play..

ok, modified another CD map, "just another mine war"

not much modification was needed on this one.  I changed it from necro vs haven, to random vs random.

Also, I'll need a confirmation of Jinxer's and Destro's emails ... I've emailed 3 maps (mine + 2 mods) to each, and I sent them to:

Jinxer@wcnet.org
tarquin2266@aol.com (for destro)

are these emails correct?

anyway my email is wiggums33@hotmail.com

well, enough map-making tonight, I'll try Jex's maps starting with burnt.

playtested Jex's burnt.  My opinions:
It's a fun one.  Although it's a small, it's playing space is bigger than battle for honor and some other ToH mediums.

I definitely find it acceptable, and give it 3 stars.    (3 stars = average good ToH map)

by the way, should we post our reviews on this thread?
