"Apparently", meaning no one knows for sure. Ubi didn't fake it in the trailer, so I don't think they would be so silly to make an image like that. If they did though, damn it's dumb...

It also might be a clever viral post launched by Ubisoft but not related to them directly if they would want it to.

It has the same darkening from the sides as official Ubi pics often do.

aw dude wtf is this?

is that supposed to be an honest comparison image?
why did they use the adventure map sprites for the original and battle sprites for HD? that's totally misrepresenting the original

what if those are actually adventure map models? but they re so HD we can only imagine they re battleground models

doesn't matter IMO

it's still such bad and misleading advertising with the use of battle backgrounds and no clarity given, as if to say wow, look how crappy this game used to look before we came in
and I don't think anybody outside of Ubi has the awesome, new and improved, betterer than ever HD sprites to be able to fake that image lol

I'm not very trustfull on this idea and my problem is not that I prefer older graphics, as a matter of fact I don't even if I can see what said Sal about the Necro city losing some depth.
My reasons for probably dismissing the product will be:

* incapacity to import previous RoE maps (there are hundreds of great maps I will became unhable to play/replay);

* if they can't recreate the Random Map Generator it means no new maps from templates too so probably noone will be playing it on-line and after playing all maps they may pack with the game (probably very few) I would have nothing to play;

* if this version changes the original code it will probably turn it incompatible with WoG, HotA, etc so no more mods.

As Orzie, I suspect they are just fooling us and want to launch posterior HD versions of AB and SoD and make us pay three times for something we already paid before.
But here I have a severe doubt: modding has kept this game alive for several years, what will it be the actual position of Ubi on this? If they decided to help us mod, give support(maybe creating APIs) it would be great and even if I still find them greedy and desonest I would probably not care to spend money to have it.
But all this mistery around source codes seams to indicate they don't intend to ever make it open-source or in any way help modders in their work (I find this stupid as a business position cause what keeps the game interesting right now are the tremendous possibilities people voluntarly spending thousands of hours creating and testing new features added to the content, they should think how to make a profit out of it, not try to depauperate us from what we already have).

Keep in mind one question: why should ubi make this game (too) good?

imagine if they relase a homm3 complete real HD, with modding apis, all old bugs fixed, improved Ai, RMG and such stuff.
It will keep ppl addicted to homm3, whoever wants then buy and play homm7 and future releases? They would sabotage any new homm version by that.

i think, they want to make some money with it esp with the mobile market as target. But they will keep it limited, so it wont threaten the success of their future franchises.

(like MS unintended did with XP -> Vista / win7 -> win8)

On one hand, I'm happy that we're getting HD models. I like the idea of the HD mod, but I didn't like that it just zoomed out on the adventure map instead of making the models more detailed. (I know why they did it that way, but still.)

I'm disappointed that they're not including AB and SoD, but more importantly, something about the HD models seems off. They're definitely higher-resolution, but the style seems a bit off - it doesn't quite look faithful to what we saw in the original game.

I don't think I'll be getting this.

Fixing the Archangel wings growing from his butt? No, we save the classics!

Actually, the original model (as in, the ACTUAL original model and not that misrepresented pile of pixels) had the exact same butt-wings.

Image pulled from the Archangel (H3) page on the "Might and Magic Wiki" - image dated 2010.

Though, come to think of it, that's... actually not that different from the HD remodelling. The only major difference I've noticed in regards to units is the Bone/Ghost Dragons having a clearer differentiation between their ribs and arms.

That's why he's getting sarcastic about "saving the classics." He knows the butt-wings are in the original game, he expects a decent HD version to fix such a mistake. Some people may prefer such things untouched though.

It is strange, because original concept art and model has wings in right position:

Maybe it's because wings would be too high in creature framework, if they be placed where they should be?

It's not exactly like that. Sometimes they used the pixelated forms from the adventure map and upscaled them/their parts, sometimes they just added some pieces from the battlefield to save time, also upscaling them and transforming to fit the angle more. Thus, the twisted perspective (especially for the Bone Dragon).

It still hurts for me to know they didn't use the original 3D scenes (widely used by NWC for promo images). We have lost an awesome game.

I also love how people now say that HD remake is garbage because its just vanilla without add-ons and its full of bugs and has balance issues.
Seams that vanilla Heroes III are not that good as people on Heroes VII forum represent it.

Vanilla heroes 3 is really not so good as addons. H3 starts from AB for me personally.

Now, on to the sweeties. This algorithm-processed upscale was made by Vade Parvis in a couple of seconds. The algorithm was S-Spline Max without any additional treatment of the image.

And after a standard Photoshop Sharpen filter:

When H3 people say vanilla game, they usually mean the Heroes 3 Complete version (with all additions of both expansion packs), they refer to it as vanilla to separate it from Wog and other third party installments.

Almost nobody only sticks to Restoration of Erathia. You don't even have a random map generator on that.

Well, let's put it this way: along this 15 years I have bought several versions of the game (RoE, AB, SoD, Gold, Complete, etc... ALL from 3DO) I had offered it to some friends and I'm spending hours learning to program it. Did I bought Heroes V? Yes, first one, the rest I pirated cause I wasn't sure I would play it much (I didn't). Did I bought Heroes 6? No, when I found out they intended to force me to use internet to register before playing first match I decided I could save some money.
But, of course, a guy who will quit FaceBook the 31 this month cause he doesn't agree with the new policy of selling our data to marketing companies isn't probably the best example.

I'm hooked on H3 for more then 14 and I intend to continue. I have severe doubts I will ever try Heroes 7 and, if I do, I will start with a free demo on a gamers magazine or a pirated copy.
If they made a version so good as H4 (doesn't needs to be so good as H3) be sure I will spend money on it. Gadly. I'll look for it even if they don't distribute it here in Portugal, like they didn't with their other versions.

I want to play chess and I'm ready to pay for Chess even with plastic peaces but if they try to sell me Marbles with ivory peaces instead they can be sure I will not put a dimme on it. Of course, I would pay more for Chess with ivory peaces.
