As War-overlord already said this question cannot be answered with a simple yes or no.
For me there are two aspects to H6 necropolis which influence my vote.
- Line-up: except for a few minor drawbacks I quite liked the line-up, so based solely on the line-up I would say YES, I liked H6 necropolis.
- Necromancy: however, H6 turned necromancy in a glorified version of the raise dead spell, imo destroying the unique necro feel.
So my conclusion would then be YES, I liked it, but NO, it wasn't necropolis.

Just because I like it I will also make a list with MY pro's and cons:

Pro's
- Namtaru's made a great champion, though they could've left out the dual form
- Lamasu was a fresh new addition that had a good necro feel to it
- the ghoul was an excellent replacement for the useless zombie
- ghost was really nice (and I don't mind them reusing it for H7)

Cons
- Necromancy reduced to raise dead
- Way too many spikes
- Slight overuse of the colour green
- I don't like the tanky vampire
- Super ugly liches

No, I hated it:

1) Too much ugly green, unnatural

2) Skeletons are always boring.
3) Ghouls were fine, but they looked like demons.
4) Ghosts are boring, call them Banshees and make them like banshees.
5) Lammasu = most gentle creature out there in mythology + most boring creature coming from mythology, no sense in making that a necropolis creature, call it sphinx instead.
6) Lich, I never liked liches, they should be heroes in necro.
7) No more pretty vampires please, make them like in HOMM3, scary abominations like nosferatu.
8) The spider queen had too much green, but otherwise, I liked the creature it is much better than the stupid bone dragon by far.

If you dislike their vampires that much, then why do you have one as your avatar?

I did like the bone dragon(or whatever it was called), but the original/real necro of h6 was the worst iteration in the series. I liked even Death from h4 better and that's saying a lot.

I hated the looks of the units in general, I hated the town-screen/looks and I especially hated the meth heads(liches), lamasus and Namtarus. I disliked the harpooners(skeletons), gimps(the idea of ghoul was good) and knights(vampires). The ghost was at least closer to mediocre(so it was best of the worst as in mediocre on neutral term). Ohh yeah and the necromancy racial was total crap! So overall? H6 necro deserved to go straight to hell!

+1

Add to all that the ridiculous glowing green in every unit and Anastasya the undead supermodel. Ugh!
H6 necro should burn in hell!

Well, with no intention to offend anyone and/or their opinion, I have to say some things about H6 Necro:

--> All that neon/overglowing green was surely on (or over) the edge of ridiculousness...

--> Lam{as(s)}u was, imho, an abomination from every aspect and was in no way suitable for Necropolis.

--> I don't like the style the Liches were implemented but, compairing to Lamasus and Vampires, I'm ok with it.

--> Vampires were a total disappointment.
Or should I say V-Arthas(s)-es... Unfortunately, they're back in H7 I have stated I am fond of H3 Vampires. "BLUH"

--> Gouls were a nice change. Before H6 I was already fed up with the "useless" zombies...

--> Fate Spinners, as far as I'm conserned, gave a fresh note to the faction and suited satisfyingly the role of the Undead champion.I'm sick of --badly implemented (meaning all except the H3 ones)-- bone dragons.

--> As for the "Spider theme" issue, I don't really mind...

--> Overall, H6 Necro had its flaws, definitely. But it had some pros, too. Don't forget we've seen much much worse (H4 Infernopolis)

I hate all rip-off units. Namtarus ripped off lolth. Vampire knights ripped off Warhammer blood dragon knghts and arthas.

I wanna play might & magic heroes, not Warhammer heroes or D&D heroes.

Everything is a rip off something, more or less. But there are bad rip offs and there are good rip offs. It's possible to rip off something while still maintaining originality.

H6 necropolis failed though. And H7 is failing badly as well, unless they actually decide to change a unit or two.

The way I see it, nosferatu is more like a homage to cult horror while Arthas vampires closer to copying something from a successful series. Obviously nwc borrowed as much as they could from D&D, Tolkien or popular films/myths but I rather liked that. Creatures were iconic and easily recognizable. They were classic and fun instead of weird, dark and gritty or ridiculously decorated.

I am not always a fun of simplicity but in this case less is more. Ashan is practically screaming for attention, like a teenager who desperately wants to be noticed.

not to mention Ashan seems to completely have forgotten how to have fun. Vampires going "BLAH!" might've been silly but god damn it was hilarious. That kind of playful childishness is what gets people to love your game and it's sorely lacking now

that and colours. don't forget to add colours.

Well we are getting funny animations for the units.
I'd say that the vampire should go "blah" for it

I always thought that these "funny" animations are too far-fetched. Instead of making a silly animation for every unit in the game they could add an alternative attack or defend animation, or use these resources and time for a better lich model

That's so relative that you can't make an argument with it. The h3 vampire looks so literally like Orloc while the H6/7 only has the white hair/big sword. By your logic then the h6 one should be the superior one

And I've always thought that making that kind of comparison is incredibly childish because "altering the movements of an existing model" is NOWHERE near as much work as completely remaking a 3D model... ESPECIALLY the "skeletal lich" that people have been clamouring for (read: LOTS AND LOTS OF POLYGONS).

There are something exist all over the worldŁ¬such as skeletons and ghosts.
There are someting iconic, such as arthas and drider in other games.

Based on a common thing is not rip-off.

Dont have iconic units in H6? All right design one. Other games design their unique units which MMH can rip off , why do not MMH?

Nowhere near as much work, still largely pointless.
